The midday sun was burning hot on the back of a wild dog making his way across the grasslands. He'd found a new den for the next few days, just as a safety precaution against the pack of hyenas that were raiding the territory around his previous home. He'd left Aminali back at the den, while he'd gone to check out the area and find the nearest watering holes.
The first thing he'd noticed was that he was dagerously close to a lion pride. The Pride Lands, that's what he'd heard they were called. Simple name, easy to remember. He figured they were probably one of the oldest prides around. Not that it mattered much to him; he didn't care much for the different organized groups of the land. He was perfectly happy under his own rules.
With a dry sigh he heaved himself under the shade of a tree, tongue lolling to the side. He hadn't found a single decent watering hole yet. Perhaps he was just looking in all the wrong places though. He wished there was someone around to ask.

Heading for the out reaches of the pride his family called home, Ardhi was like a dark shadow in the yellowing grasses that covered the land. There was only one reason Ardhi came out here anymore and that was to have time for himself without someone keeping track of him. His family was growing by leaps and bounds and yet he felt he was being watched even more than his little siblings. It was almost as though they thought he couldn't take care of himself just because of a few uncontrolable shakes.
He could take care of himself. At times the thought of leaving his family and going out on his own would cross his mind but he just couldn't bring himself to hurt his family like that. He still remembered what happened when his brother Tope left. He loved his family too much to do that to them.
An expression of sadness creeped onto Ardhi's face as he walked up upon a tree already occupied by another. He sat down on the other side of the tree away from the stranger not even noticing that he was even there.

Talbot had heard the approach of the other but he'd just flicked his ear and ignored it. That was, until he heard the other sit down on the other side of the tree. He turned his head and his eyes went wide. A huge black lion sat in the shade just an arms reach away. Ohhh this was bad.
A small whimper escaped his throat as he began to crawl away, his belly close to the ground. But in such a position it was hard to move quickly and his paws made loud shuffling sounds in grass. Oh no oh no oh no! He thought. He just had to pick a den close to a pride of lions! couldn't they just stay within their territories?
But what if he'd accidentally wandered into their territory? Oh that would be bad. But he hadn't noticed any scent markers... What a predicament!

Even in his slightly saddened state Ardhi's ears picked up the loud shuffling sound in the grass behind him. Curiousity overwhelmed his current mood and he stood up and started in the direction of the noise. Even in the tall grass it was easy to pick out the white blob almost crawling along the ground. Seeing this made him even more curious so he moved closer until her could make ou exactly what was crawling.
A wild dog? "Excuse me." Ardhi called to the wild dog not wanting to get to close in case the other animal turned to attack. He'd learned early to be careful of strangers as his mother had taught him well being how protective she was.
