Who am I?

Ch.1: Prepare To Meet Your Fate

It's dark and stormy night the wind blows and the rain pours down. The sky lights up with the flash of lightning and booms with the roar of thunder. A boy no older then thirteen years old runs in the mud through a forest wearing nothing more than a pair of tattered gray shorts. The boy looks over his shoulder as he runs to see if he is still being chased. He runs and hides behind a tree. He leans against the trunk to catch his breath. Suddenly, an arrow shoots by and embeds itself in the wood only inches from the boy’s head. A horse neighs as it rears up and charges closer carrying a man in a red and blue soldier’s uniform. “There he is! I found him. This way men!” The soldier called out to his comrades.

The boy quickly turned and ran for his life. As he ran through the bushes in a desperate attempt to escape, the bushes cut his already battered and worn body, covering him in cuts and blood. But the man on horseback simply tore through the brush with his horse being followed by two more men on horseback wearing the same red and blue uniform. The boy’s bare foot hit a rock hidden by the mud and fell down. As the soldier’s dismounted their steeds and approached the boy they drew out their swords.

“You killed our comrade. Prepare to die you whelp.” The first soldier declared. “But I didn’t kill anybody! I swear you have to believe me.” The boy pleaded. “Liar! We saw you standing right next to our dead brother; his fleshly drawn blood still covered your hands!” The second man shouted. “I didn’t do anything! Please, I beg you, don’t kill me!” The boy cried as he struggled to pick himself up out of the mud. Before he could get onto both feet the boy felt the cold surface of one of the men’s metal sword rest next to his neck. “Prepare to meet your fate.” The boy closed his eyes and braced himself for his eminent demise.

Ch.2: Blood Covered Teeth

The man pulled back his sword ready to slice the boy’s head off, when a blood curdling scream pierced the night air. The soldier’s froze in their boots, looking around for the source of the sound. They didn’t have to wait long to find out though, for a black hairy demon burst out of the nearby brush pounced the man holding his sword out to end the young boy’s life. The beast was eight feet tall and messy wet hair covered its body. Long talon-like claws protruded out from its large black hands and feet. The demon appeared part wolf, part dragon. Its eyes glowed faintly in the dark of the stormy night.

The monster grabbed the soldier with his giant hands, and equipped with its razor sharp claws, it sliced through the man’s chain-mail under his uniform like it was paper and dug into the man’s flesh. The soldier shrieked in agony but was quickly silenced as the demon bit down on the man’s head and tore it off in one felt swoop. The monster cast aside the now limp carcass and attacked the two now fleeing soldiers, their horses already long gone. The men didn’t stand a chance as the demon leapt through the air and crashed to the ground in front of the men, baring its blood covered teeth.

The boy got up and ran away from the scene as fast as his battered legs would let him. Any feeling of pain was long since vanished as his mind was focused on getting as much distance between him and that… thing. Unfortunately, the demon quickly caught up with the fleeing boy after disposing of the two adult men. The beast cornered the boy next to a tree and licked its chops as it slowly neared the trembling youth. The young man’s eyes widened as he saw the open fanged mouth of the creature lunge at him.

Then all went black. The cold feeling of his body departed and he felt warm, the rainy forest vanished and was replaced with pure darkness, and the noise of the monster and the rain and thunder also disappeared, only to be replaced with silence. “Surely,” the boy thought, “I must be dead.” But before the kid could think another thought, the ear-splitting yelp of the monster cut through the eerie silence for a second. Then all was dark and soundless once more.

Ch.3: Fuzzy Around the Edges

“Pa, I think he’s waking up.” “Quick Violet, go get yer mother” “Okay.” The sound of a door squeaking open and slamming shut was heard clearly as the young boy’s eyes slowly squinted open. “You awake now, kiddo?” asked the man leaning over the boy. The man had a thick curly black beard and wore a red plaid shirt, blue overalls, and a brown hat farm hat with a hole on the rim. “You gave us quite the scare there boy. We weren’t sure if ya’d wake up er not.” said the man with a thick country accent. “Who are you?” asked the kid. “Name’s Horace, who are you?” replied the man.” “I… don’t know.” “Hmm, sounds like yer head’s still fuzzy ‘round the edges.”

The door slammed open again as a young girl of about twelve ran in shortly there after followed by her mother. “See ma? He’s awake!” exclaimed the girl as she pointed to the confused boy slowly sitting up on the cot. “What happened to-” the boy began to say before he was cut off in mid-sentence. “You’re up! You’re up! See? I told ya all he’d wake up! Didn’t I?!” the girl proudly announced to her parents. The boy looked down at his body and saw his torso and arms wrapped up in bandages. “What happened to me?” the teen asked, still a little dazed. “We found you washed up on the river bank covered with wounds. We brought you back to our ranch to tend to your injuries. You’ve been asleep for the past three days.” replied the mother in a smooth accent unlike the others. She wore a pale yellow gown and a white apron. Her long brown hair reached just past her shoulders and curled at the bottom. “Well Clara done did most the injury tendin’.” The man named Horace added.

The woman handed the boy a glass of water. “Here, you must be parched.” The boy greedily gulped down the water. “Violet, go fetch our young guest something from the kitchen please.” asked the woman in a soft voice. “But, Ma!” “Violet, do as yer mother tells ya.” scolded the man. “Fine.” The girl replied before running out of the room. The boy saw the girl as she left. She wore a light purple dress and her long brown hair tied back in a ponytail.

Ch.4: Just Fiber

The boy held his stomach, the mention of food made his belly roar for sustenance. “Did you say… three days?” “Sure ‘nough did boy.” “What was I doing in the river?” “Well we were hoping you could tell us that dear.” “I’m not sure. I don’t remember falling in a river. The last thing I remember was-” Suddenly the memory of the night’s events flashed through his mind. The storm, the soldiers, the monster, the yelp, and then all went black. “Boy? Boy! Snap outta it!” Horace yelled. The teen shook his head and looked up at the man’s face. “Huh?” “Boy, you were zoning out on me there fer a second.” “Sorry.” The conversation was cut short as the girl came barreling in with a tray of food, practically shoving her father out of her way. “Here ya are sugar, a nice home-cooked meal from yours truly.” “Hey, didn’t yer mother fix that food earlier?” “Shush!” the daughter hissed back before turning around again to lean her elbows on the side of the cot and use her hands to prop up her head.

“So, as I was sayin’, how you likin’ the food?” The girl asked as she watched the boy reaching for the plate of eggs on the tray. He bypassed the fork and just lifted the eggs on the plate to his mouth and tilted the plate, letting eggs slide in, eating them in one bite. He grabbed the loaf of bread with his other hand and began to eat it ravenously as he set down the empty plate to grab the cup of milk and use it wash down the bread as he ate it. The girl by now had fallen back in shock from the animal-like display of eating she saw in-front of her. The boy finished the milk and bread and grabbed the orange slices and began to eat them whole.

“Papa! He’s eattin’ the orange peels too!” exclaimed the girl. “Don’t worry none, s’just fiber.” the man reassured his daughter but secretly was just as disturbed. The boy finished by grabbing the glass of water given to him earlier and gulping down the last bit of water left. He placed the glass onto the tray with a thump before panting for air. “Thank you so much!” the boy thanked. The family recovered from what they just witness and the mother picked up the empty tray. “Well, I guess it should be expected, the boy ain’t eaten nothin’ in at least three days.” said Horace. “Listen why don’t you two gals go an’ fix up the kitchen while I get our guest something to wear?” said the man as he escorted the ladies out of the room and shut the door behind them.

Ch.5: Speedy

The boy stopped and looked at all his bandages covering his body. “How do my wounds look?” asked the kid. “Dunno. Usually had the wife check up on ya. But let’s see.” said the man as he helped the kid unwind some of the wraps on his right arm. Horace was surprised to see that most of the wounds were already healing; some were only stabs and scars now. “Boy howdy! You sure make a speedy recovery! Hey, how ‘bout we calls ya all Speedy?” Horace asked only to get an annoyed stare from the boy. “Ya know, fer now. At least til ya can ‘member yer real name.” Horace explained. The boy merely sighed in acceptance, not particularly fond of the name but the situation was that so he really couldn’t argue. The boy caught something shining in the corner of his eyes. He looked down at his arm and saw a golden cuff locked around his wrist. “What’s this?” he asked. “Don’t rightly know. They were on ya when we found ya. It was the only thing you were wearing. Other than those gold things on yer wrists, you were naked as a jaybird.” Replied the man as he scratched his head.

A few hours later, Horace walked out with the boy who was now dressed in a green shirt and a pair of loose fitting blue jeans held up with a brown belt. He had removed a lot of the bandages, but still had to keep some on for the larger wounds. “My goodness, don’t you look handsome?” said the woman. “I’ll say.” replied the girl. The boy looked around the living room. It was quant. A leather pelt covered the floor in front of the fireplace. The room was decorated with some wood furnishings such as a large table and chairs and one rocking chair in the corner of the room. He looked across to the right to see the kitchen directly attached to the living room, only separated by small hallway.

The boy stopped as he passed a mirror and glanced at it. The boy turned pale as he saw a red faced demon looking back at him in the mirror. The boy rubbed his eyes and looked again. This time he saw himself. Short ruffed up brown hair that looked near impossible to control. Eyes deep blue like sky just after twilight. Smooth skin that was just slightly tanned. His well toned body showed in his face too. A small dimple in his right cheek showed as he smiled in relief.

Horace tapped on the boy’s shoulder. “You alright Speedy?” he asked concerned. “I’m fine. Just looking at my reflection.” he chuckled lightly after as he resumed walking down the hallway to the front door. The boy walked out the front the door and looked at the surrounding area. It was a large ranch. A big red barn settled to the left and to the right was a large pasture filled with cattle. Straight ahead was a long dirt road that disappeared over a hill. The sky was light blue decorated with a few white puffy clouds here and there. The bright rays of the sun warmed up the boy’s skin. It was a pretty nice ranch.

Ch.6: Day By Day

Speedy worked on the farm in gratitude for the ranching family taking care of him. It was a peaceful existence. Every night, Horace would ask if Speedy remembered anything yet, and every night Speedy would say no. Day by day, Speedy would get up late to help Horace after sleeping in, getting out just in time to help move the salt licks for the cows. After moving all the salt licks, the mother, Clara, would call the two boys in for lunch. Speedy would practically sprint to the house and sit at the kitchen table and starve down his meal. Afterwards, Speedy would chop wood and bring up water out of the well while Horace tended to other matters.

At night, Violet would stare at Speedy, who was completely unaware. Horace would ask if Speedy if he remembered anything about his past yet. Speedy would think hard to try and remember something, but all in vain. He’d tell them that he still didn’t remember anything and they would finish eating dinner. After everyone else had fallen asleep the boy would climb out the window of his room and go look at the moon on the rooftop. He’d watch the moon as it waxed, slowly growing larger. The more it grew, the boy felt more and more peaceful. Speedy could tell that tomorrow was going to be a full moon. He was looking forward to that, though he didn’t know why. Speedy climbed off the roof top and snuck back in his room. Tomorrow was going to be another day of peace and repetitive labor… or at least, that’s what the boy thought.

The morning started out like normal: Speedy would wake up late, grab a piece of toast with an egg on it that Clara set out on the kitchen table, and he’d eat it as he went out the front door to go help Horace with the cows. Halfway through moving the salt licks, the boy looked out in the distance and saw a dust cloud trail. “Hey Horace, what’s with that trail of dust over there, it looks like it’s heading this way.” Horace turned around, his face pale as snow as he saw the dust trail. “Ol’ Crusher.” “What?” “We gots ta get back ta the girls and get up on the roof, NOW!” Horace exclaimed, grabbing Speedy by the shirt and yanking him as they ran to the house.

Ch.7: Crusher

After getting everyone on the roof, Speedy confronted Horace. “What’s wrong, why are we hiding up here on roof? Who’s making that dust trail? Who’s Crusher?” Clara intervened and said, “It’s not so much who, but more of a what. You see Crusher is a bull.” “He’s more then a bull Clara; he’s a monster. That there ornery monster comes barreling through here every now and a again and leaves a trail of ruin. He’s the meanest most ornery bull ever ta step hoof on this here earth.” replied Horace.

“So what you’re saying is some bull rampages through the farm occasionally and just leaves the place in rubble?!?” “You don’t understand Speedy. That there bull is a monster. Daddy tried ta stop ‘em the first time he came on through here. Daddy barely made it outta that encounta’! All we can do is hide up here and wait for ‘em ta run through an’ just fix the farm after he’s gone.” Violet explained. The four watched as the cows stampeded out of the path of the rampant bull. The bull tore through the wooden fences like they where tissue paper and smashed everything in his way. Speedy stood up and balled up his hands into fists. “No! How can you just hand here and watch this happen?! I won’t stand for it!” Speedy declared as he hopped off the roof.

Speedy tuck and rolled as he hit the ground and got up. He picked up a rock and ran towards the bull. Crusher was too busy slamming his horns into a wooden shed to notice the boy running at him. Speedy hurled the stone at the raging bull and nailed him right above the eye. The bull stopped attacking the shed instantly and turned to look at the offender. At first the bull’s expression was that of confusion. But it wasn’t before long that the bull’s eyes went red and he began to scratch the ground with his hoof, preparing to charge. It took off in a blind fury and charged at the boy in the distance.

Ch.8: My Fault

Speedy’s bravery and determination abruptly left him as the realization of the situation finally sank in. Speedy turned around and sprinted away from the bull as fast as his feet would allow him. For awhile, it seemed that he was going to outrun the bull, but eventually, exhaustion began to overtake adrenaline and Speedy slowed down considerably. He looked over his shoulder to see the bull hot on his tail and drawing closer. Speedy could practically felt the heat of the bull’s breath as the beast came within inches of impaling him. Speedy braced himself for the sharp piercing pain that was sure to happen any second. But it never came. Instead, the feeling that he felt was a violent impact on his side and a rough crash as he slid against the ground. He looked up to see the bull’s horn crop Horace in the leg, who had jumped to push Speedy out of the way at the last second.

The horn grazed Horace’s thigh, missing the major tissue just barely. But Crusher wasn’t going to let him get away. The bull reared up and stomped down on the rancher’s leg. The old man screamed in agony as the bull charged off in the distance, satisfied with his rampage. The women hurried to the two men as they limped back towards the house. Speedy had taken off his shirt and used it to wrap Horace’s bleeding broken leg. Horace used Speedy as a crutch as the two finally made it back. The women tended to Horace’s injuries and left the boy outside. He looked around at the ruined ranch and peered through the window to see Horace cringe in pain as Clara did her best to help him with his leg.

Speedy fell to the ground and sobbed. “What did I do? If I hadn’t have attacked the bull, Horace never would have gotten hurt, and the farm might not have gotten as mangled as it did. It’s all my fault.” Speedy slammed his fists on the ground. Hours later, the boy went inside and walked over to the mother and daughter sitting in the living room. “I’ll make it right. I’ll fix it. I’ll fix the ranch and I’ll do Horace’s chores too. Until, Horace’s leg heals, I will personally see to it that the ranch continues to run properly. I-I’ll take full responsibility for my actions.” Speedy proclaimed while staring at the floor, too ashamed to look the women in the eyes. Clara merely stood up and said, “As you wish.” Before going back to the room Horace was resting in.

Ch.9: Before the Rooster's Crow

The boy rose at the crack of dawn and walked outside. As he entered the barn, he heard the rooster crow. “Jeez, I’m up even before the rooster’s crow now. I miss staying up and watching the moon.” the boy complained. The boy grabbed the axe and went behind the house to chop wood before moving them in piles to the fence. He spent hours fixing the fence each morning. After he fixed the fences completely the boy spent a few days rounding up the cattle that ran away. The daily chores didn’t end after the ruins from the bull’s rampage were repaired either.

The salt licks still had to be moved, chickens had to be fed, eggs collected, water pulled out of the well, and cows had to be milked. Speedy especially hated the milking cows part, since he was kicked in the head the first time by the heifer, he always felt uneasy about milking. It took a straight week of 16 hour work days, but the farm was finally back to working order. Horace was still unable to work, but he would shout instructions to Speedy if anything was being done wrong.

It was the last chore before lunch, fetch water from the well. Speedy slowly cranked the handle and reeled up the rope that pulled the water bucket up to the surface. Speedy hated this job because it was a slow process and it was right before lunch which made him antsy. The bucket of water was almost at the top when the handle on the wheel crank snapped and the bucket began to plummet back down as the rope spun around the now unmanned wheel. The boy jumped onto the well’s edge and grabbed the rope bare handed. The friction burned his palms, but he managed to stop the bucket. “Horace! The handle broke! What do I do?” Speedy called out. “Whatcha talkin’ ‘bout Speedy? Jus’ pull up the bucket wit yer hands. In times like these, ya gots ta grab the bull by the horns and do things by force.” Speedy nodded his head as he began to pull up the bucket by pulling up the rope with his now burnt hands. After finally collecting the water Speedy went inside to eat. “Grab the bull by the horns, eh? I think I like the way that sounds.”

Ch.10: Crusher's Back

It was another four days later that Speedy began to notice how fast his muscles were growing. After the well crank broke, he had to hull up the bucket repeatedly with his bare hands and the other daily manual chores were beginning to make the boy more hardened and stronger. It was after lunch that the boy returned to work outside before seeing the familiar trail of dust off in the distance. “Crusher!” Speedy started to run to grab a ladder but stopped in mid-step. “Horace can’t get to the roof in his condition.” The teen ran back inside, “Everybody, get in the middle of the house, stay away from the doors and sides. Crusher’s back!”

Speedy ran back outside as the family panicked to move Horace. Speedy ran to corral the cows in the fenced area before Crusher arrived. The bull was coming in from the direction he left week’s earlier. As Speedy finished rounding up the cows, he hurried back to the house only to see it being circled by the outraged bull. The mad bovine ran circles around the house, destroying the barrels, ladders, and even scraping the corners of the house as he turned. Speedy heard the screams of the girls who were trapped inside now.

The boy’s heart skipped a beat and began to pump harder. Every heartbeat felt like a punch in the chest as he began to feel rage begin to build inside him. “You… you… relentless beast! I won’t let you get away with this kind of behavior anymore.” The boy picked up an armful of rocks and ran just close enough to throw them at the bull as it circled the house like a shark. Speedy hurled the rock, but missed as the bull ran along the side of the house. The boy hurled another stone as the beast turned the corner. “I got it!” Speedy dashed over to the left so he was perpendicular to side the house.

He picked another stone off the ground waited for the bull to turn around the corner and start charging down the side of the house. As he saw the horns emerge from the back of the house, Speedy pitched the rock and it soared through the air. As the bull finally made its way around the corner and started charging straight down the side, it felt something hit its cheek. It skidded to a halt and looked up to see the boy from before standing several yards away. It stomped its hoof down once only to be pegged square between the eyes with another stone. The bull had had enough.

Ch.11: Literally

Crusher charged pass the house and chased down the boy that dared to attack him. “That’s right you overgrown steak, come get me.” Speedy dashed to the left and led the bull away from the house. The bull slowly began to catch up with the inhumanly fast boy. Speedy spotted a metal pole sticking out from the ground. He knew it was close to breaking by how rusted it was, but if he could use it to turn around by spinning around it, and pull it out with him, perhaps he could use it to attack the bull at full speed. Speedy determined that it was his best chance and decided to go for it.

He grabbed onto it with his right hand and swung around, pulling a 180, only to have the pole snap from the force, releasing Speedy empty-handed, straight towards the bull. Speedy had built too much moment to slow down without tripping, and the bull was too close for him to turn to the side, not at this speed. The boy cursed himself in his mind, “I’m screwed! I put all my chances on that pole, now I can’t handle this beast… handle… Wait! The handle broke… so grab the bull… by the horns.” Speedy remembered Horace’s words and decided to take them literally. The boy continued to sprint towards the charging bull. The two high-speed enemies grew closer and closer.

The bull glanced up at Speedy with his red eyes, full of rage. “I’m not afraid of you. Not this time!” The boy sidestepped the bull just before it reared his head up to skewer the boy. Speedy grabbed onto the bull’s right horn with his right hand, and spun around 180 degrees before grabbing the bull’s left horn with his other hand and wrapping his legs around the bull’s neck. Crusher went berserk from the unwelcome rider. He bucked and shook and even fell to the ground a few times in an effort to throw off the boy. But his actions where in vain, the harder he fought, the more the boy tightened his legs around the bull’s neck.

It wasn’t long before the bull began to lose his balance, becoming more and more tired and dizzy from the lack of oxygen. The bull slowed to a trot as he began to near the house again. The bull stopped ten yards in front of the house. Crusher just stood still for several seconds before falling over, passed out cold. The family rushed to the door and the women ran out as Horace stood against the doorway propped up by a cane. Speedy rolled off the unconscious killer bull and looked up to see the two ladies run to his side. “Did I win?” Speedy asked in a high-pitched voice before passing out from exhaustion.

Ch.12: No Moon to be Seen

The boy slowly opened his eyes, taking in the sight of the room were we first awakened many weeks ago. “What happened?” Speedy staggered out of bed and made his way to the door, but his sore legs slowed him down considerably. “Ow, my legs are killing me, and my crotch, ugh.” The boy waddled to the kitchen were he was greeted by the rancher and his family. “Speedy my boy, yer finally up. You’ve been out fer half a day.” The bum-legged rancher hobbled over to the boy and crushed him in a bear-hug. “You done got rid of Ol’ Crusher!” “I did?” replied Speedy.

Clara walked over as Horace let Speedy go from his crushing embrace. “Yes, he won’t be bothering us any more.” “You mean you… killed him?” “No, we just didn’t have it in us to kill the poor animal while he was out.” “So what exactly did you do?” “Well, we took the point out of his horns so he isn’t so dangerous. And more importantly-” Violet interrupted her mom in mid-sentence, “We made sure he wouldn’t be so ornery by castrating the big fella.” Speedy cocked his brow in confusion, “What’s ‘castrating’ mean?”

After a very quiet and uncomfortable dinner, Speedy went back to his room. “I actually think I feel sorry for the bull”, he mumbled as he changed into his pajamas. Speedy put on a large red shirt and some oversized baggy black pants that the family lent him for night-wear. Speedy looked outside to stare at the moon, but tonight, despite the near absence of clouds in the sky, there was no moon to be seen. The boy’s heart felt like it dropped. The moon was a source of tranquility for him. It was a light that glowed even in the dark of the night. Candles provided light at night too, but somehow the fire in the dark made him even more unnerved. But the moon did not. It was like a peaceful night light that worked to illuminate the ranch even during the sun’s absence.

Ch.13: Red Dots

Speedy settled down for the night, but he couldn’t manage to fall asleep; he could only stare at the moonless sky through the window, praying that the warm embrace of the sun’s light would soon cut through the dark night sky and bring morning and day to the restless boy. After a few hours, Speedy noticed a light in the sky, but it was not the sun that he so desperately wished for. It was a far off small red dot in the sky, a few appeared at first, but the red dots began to multiply. Soon there were a hundred little red dots, and it looked like they were getting closer.

The boy crawled out through the window to get a better look. As the swarm of red dots came closer and closer to the farm, Speedy realized that those dots weren’t dots, but they were red glowing eyes. Even in the dark, Speedy was able to make out the shape of the red eyed night flyers. They weren’t like anything he’d ever seen before, they seemed… inhuman, unnatural, no… demonic. Although Speedy had no idea where he knew this word, or how he knew what they were, but in his mind, the boy just knew that those eyes belonged to demons. And from the look of dots, there were a lot of them.

Speedy jumped back through the window and rushed over to the family’s bed room and slammed the door open. “Everyone wake up! Something is coming, something evil.” Horace rolled over and sat up. “Speedy boy, ya all just had a nightmare. You took down the biggest meanest creature this side of the country; you’re just still shaken up. Now go back ta bed an’ get some shut-eye.” Speedy dashed to the window facing east and threw open the curtains, letting the red lights glowing outside side in the sky that drew closer and closer to be seen. Horace’s opinion switched dramatically. “Wha- what are dose things?” he asked. “Demons. Those are demons.” replied Speedy.

Ch.14: In This Together

The family geared up for battle. Horace grabbed a pick-axe, while Clara took grasp of her frying pan. Violet got a hammer and followed her parents to the front door. Speedy ran out to the back and yanked a wood axe out of the wood pile. Horace’s leg was still worse for wear, but he was determined to fight this time, the whole family was spurred on by Speedy’s earlier act of bravery. This time, they wouldn’t let the boy they found washed up by the river do all the fighting.

Speedy ran to the front and joined the gathered family. They stood and watched as the swarm in the sky began to descend on the farm and swoop down at the family. They were demons alright, gray bodies with white hair on their heads that went down their backs as a small stripe. The red glowing eyes lit up their features, reveling their jagged teeth and beef jerky like faces. The small wings on their backs didn’t look big enough to let them fly, but fly they did.

The first demon swooped down at Violet, but was forcibly knocked out of the air by a strong blow of a large frying pan upside the head. The mother smiled to her daughter, letting her know that they were all in this together. The women teamed up and handled the demons that swooped down at them, while the guys fought the bulk of the swarm. Horace brought down the head of his pick and pierced the demon’s diminutive four foot frame. Speedy swung his axe in an arc through the air and slashed a demon in half. The family was going to back down, not this time.
