Evvy was born into a middle-class Asian-American family and never really lacked anything, though she didn't always have what she wanted either. As a child she was often discontented and longing for something she couldn't find. She was often characterized as a "lost child," who didn't know what she wanted in life. Insecurity and self-consciousness plagued her until her first day of high school, the day she met Jakob.
He was an open, friendly type, a lanky, handsome senior who loved her more than life itself. He often told her he that if she asked his very life, he would give it. He showed her that she was special, and that she meant something in the world. Most importantly, he taught her to be at peace with the way she was, and the way her world was.
She was lucky, because not long after she grew very ill. Her mother, who she discovered loved her very much, never left her side, trying to make her better. But Evvy told her that she was ready to live or die--it didn't matter. She was at peace.

When Evvy awoke and found herself a Sim'arei, the knowledge hit her hard--she really had died. But despite her longing for Jakob, her awkwardness being in the body of some animal, and general confusion, she remained composed...for the most part.
She has adjusted quite well to the life of a Dreamer, and become somewhat of a mother-figure, comforting and guiding newly deceased souls through their new lives, particularly those who remember their past lives and struggle with letting go...
