Magdalena sat upon the sand in the sandbox her tiny hands quietly toying in the grains as she built and destroyed whatever piles she had made. The small girl had made sure that her elderly guardian had taken the shadier sandboxes for she did not much enjoy the feel of the sun fully upon her. It made her uncomfortable more than anything at the moment. Near the sandbox was a bench where Mama Vivisali sat with her cane leaned against the bench.

Mama had begun to need assistance when walking as of late as her true age began to make itself prominent even slowly aging her youthful looking hand and forming an odd filmy layer over her once vibrant violet colored eyes. The old woman smiled at the sight of the small girl in the sandbox, but it was a sad smile. Mama resented the fact, that for the moment, she could not play with her child effectively but hopefully that would all change very soon.

The hour of the day was just after lunch and the day was bright and cheery. The playground is generic holding the usual round of sandboxes, merry-go-round, swings, slide, and one jungle gym. Not much imagination or magic to the play sets and that left children to imagine things for themselves.

Quincy couldn’t stand the excitement running through his veins, blood pumping with a constant gogogo that he could no longer ignore as he ran down the slight decline towards the sandbox and swing set. He wanted to fly today. With Jack at auntie lani, Aaron at work he was left with one very nice and very pretty Auntie Tosh. Normally she too would be working with Aaron and the rest of the crew at seedpie graphics, but today she offered to watch over the small pup while Aaron caught up on a few pressing projects. So as Quincy sped down the hill, scarf blowing behind him with the roaring wind pulling at his ears and hair, he could only faintly hear the sharp calls of Toshiko.

“Quincy. Please slow down!” The young designer called out after the Hiccup, messenger bag containing a small thermos of hot coca, sketchbook and kite fell down to the ground as she stumbled towards the dog boy. Quincy paused in his tracks and glanced up at the hobbling woman.

“Auntie Tosh, don’t fall!” He cried out and ran towards his slowing babysitter. Quincy knew quite well what falling felt like and it wasn’t all that pleasant. He came to her side, picking up the messenger bag and holding it up to her. “I’m sorry for running.”

“Don’t be sorry Quin, just…Don’t run so fast?” She grinned and tousled the young boy’s hair. “See there’s a sandbox and a bench. Go down there and play while I make a few calls to your father.”

“Yes ma’am!” Quincy gave a sharp, yet fumbling salute before jogging down to the sand box. It was then that he noticed the other girl casually messing with the grainy substance. Not only was she quite pretty, she also smelled quite nice. Quincy gave a short sneeze into his elbow as the scent tickled his sinuses and sat down cautiously across from the girl.

“Hello miss, my name is Quincy and I just wanted to say that you smell very nice.” He said nervously, hands wringing themselves within his lap.

Magdalena had paused in her play to watch the boy as he spoke to her. He knew how she smelt? Well that was interesting! Then again she did smell rather pretty (after all she had to agree) and so she took the compliment with a small demure smile and uttered a soft, “Thank you,” in reply. She shifted upon her spot for a moment before it became plainly obvious that she was scooting toward him.

The boy knew how she smelt and obviously he had the better nose of the two. So she went closer only to sniff him in return. It only seemed polite. Thus her nose was soon against his cheek and she gave a small soft ‘whiff, whiff’ sound with her nose before she decided he didn’t smell half bad either! “You smells nice, too, Qui..nn…see,” she said with small difficulty with pronouncing his name.

“I’m Ma…Ma…Maggie.” Magdalena seemed to have issues pronouncing her own full name as well and thus she used the nickname instead and found it much easier.
