beware: Ken-doll nudity

Anyways, after maybe two or three hours (God that long?! Doesn’t look like it took that long ><) I’ve finished the picture I was working on of Gabriel and Lucifer. I’ve been wanting o draw the pair in their battle in the War In Heaven where Gabriel finally strikes down Lucifer. The concept came way back in 2006 where I doodled this picture:

Well it got put on a backburner, but I was rping in my ‘revalations’ style rp and decided I wanted to rp Gabriel, and since I’m reading Glenn Duncan’s ‘I Lucifer’ I’m all hyped up on angelic & demonic whatnots at the moment -haha I’d also found the perfect reference picture for it, of these two handsome young gents at a spiffy angle:

So i finally decided tf ‘christen’ my new sketchpad with a nice picture of them. Plugged into my music and with my trusty mechanical pencil in hand, I got down to it.
Shading’s always a problem with me, i need to colour more. If my tablet wasn’t spazzed up that is. I have watercolours, but pencils make them all dark and crappy. Since this was quite a pencil heavy sketch I decided to go with some basic(ish) shading and hope for the best ;3 It makes a difference. I hope it scans in well o.O
So anyway I modified the design to fit n with the reference pose. I use reference poses a lot nowadays. I’m trying to get my anatomy better, so this is my way of doing direct observation without getting bored-haha Some might call it cheating, but whatever. I don’t trace it, so I don’t care what you think :p

I also tried ot use the ‘rule of thirds’ to a degree and get them filling up all the space, with Gabriel’s and Lucifer’s heads more or less at intersecting lines in the grid. Gabriel’s off-kilter wings also follow the odd angled roof-edge/wall, and hopefully their hair gives some harmony.
The subject of the art? Gabriel giving Satan a final blow. I’m gonna call the pic ‘end of the line’ I think. Anyway, once I get the picture up you’ll notice a few things (esp if you’ve paid any attention to my other pics)
1 - Lucifer has long hair. All other pics of him have had short hair with a ‘jedi-plait’. In heaven he had long hair, but when he went to hell (and turned into ‘satan’) in suiting with his mental transformation, he decided to go with short hair. So nyeh :p
2- Gabriel’s got no nipples (or man-bits). Yup Gabriel’s completely asexual. Not even a hermaphrodite- no gender at all. So no defining bits. ‘He’ is truly a Ken-doll.
3- Where are their wings? Why do Gabriel’s wings look so freaky? - Gabriel usually has 6 wings, and Lucifer has two. However angelic warfare is a bloody business. While their other wounds heal very fast 9hence why they look relatively uninjured), number one rule in any warfare between creatures of flight is that you disable flight. So Gabriel promptly hacked off Lucifer’s wings, and in the fighting 4 of Gabriel’s 6 wings have been cut off. What are left are the top ‘right’ wing and the bottom ‘left’ wing, hence why they don’t line up.
4- I can’t draw feet. Shaddap ¬_¬ lol
So there you go. Gabriel promptly stabs and decapitates Lucifer, and the battle is won relatively quickly form that point.
Gabriel was generally traumatised and dissolution by the whole event afterwards. Whenever I listen to ‘the great disappointment’ by A.F.I I think of Gabriel at the end of the battle. His faith returns quickly, but he’s always a little scarred by it. Peace and normality was shattered and none of the 1st generation of angels could look at each other quite the same again.
