The view that spread before her eyes was breathtaking. These vast plains were like nothing she had ever seen before. The mountain woods in which she had grown up could compare with these wide open spaces.

Alastrine smiled in delight. It had been just several days ago that she and her brother left the lands they called their home. No, not left, chased away. because of a silly superstition. But that place had never truly been their home. Their mother had sought protection there because she was with cubs. The clan they had been born in they had never belonged in. Alstrine smirked as she remembered how other cubs were scared of her 'Ghost they called me. Foolish kids.' she chuckled.

"What are you thinking about Rinny Rin?" Betzalel asked, using one of her very childish nicknames. He walked up to her and sat down, taking in the view "It is beautiful here, isn't it?" he said. They could make a home here, it was perfect. Not once for these last few days had he though about his previous home. He knew Alastrine missed it as little as he did.

"I was remembering how fearful our playmates were of me." she answered with a cheeky smile. As a cub she had very much enjoyed jumping out of nowhere and scaring them out of their wits. "Yes, it is. We'll stay here, right Lel?" the female turned to the dark Saigh next to her.

Betzalel nodded "Of course."

Alastrine watched him with a smile, then she suddenly started laughing, happy with life itself. She swatted him lightly on the shoulder with her paw and ran down the hill. "Can't catch me!"

The male laughed at his sister's childish behavior and chased after her.

Mathúin was out for a stroll. He didn't often wander that far from his cave, but today he had the most peculiar urge to traverse across the plains in a roundabout way. It was nice, he thought, to for once get to see the variation of nature that was not present near his home. From the unusual, purple flowers to the reddish-yellow rocks, Mathúin felt as though he was traveling through many worlds on a journey, and each was far different from his own.

He heard a flock of birds screech and saw them fly to one side, and moved as well. Not a moment too soon, either. A white blur swept past him, his fur brushing up against it. A chill crept over Mathúin--Was that a ghost? If he had not followed the birds' lead and stepped to the side, he would have been hit square in the chest.

Before his mind could come to anymore conclusions, a black blur swept by him, like a shadow of a creature. A very hard, solid shadow. This one was larger, and Mathúin had not moved since its predecessor darted by. The result was an odd cracking noise that resounded from his shoulder accompanied by unbearable pain. The brown Saighneian fell hard on his back and howled with surprise. Attempting to straighten up, Mathúin realized that front right leg cost him a great deal of energy to move.

And now he regretted taking this walk. Had Nature brought him out of his shell of cave just to punish him for staying inside so long? Mathúin fell back on the ground and closed his eyes. I'll rest for a bit, then, he thought, I'll go home when I feel better. The brown Saigh grimaced, his eyes still closed, and tried to fight the waves of pain that shot through him from his shoulder.

Alastrine raced down the hill, all laughs and smiles, not really looking where she was going. She laughed even lauder as a flock of birds flew out of her way. Her brother's voice reached her ears and she turned to briefly glance at him. She felt something brush furry and very much alive brush past her shoulder and she snapped her head in it's direction, heels digging into the ground as she tried to stop. Which was the stupidest thing she could have done at that moment.

Betzalel chased after the white blur and was just a couple of paces behid her by now. Suddenly he noticed some birds and something brown and large ahead of Alastrine.

"Watch out!" he yelled at her and tried to stop but his momentum carried him right into the brown creature. He heard a cracking noise as he came to a screeching halt. But unfortunately he couldn't stop soon enough. The large black Saigh collided with his sister causing them both to roll down the hill. The two got all tangled up together and it was some time until they were both back on their paws.

After making sure his sister was alright Betzalel quickly walked over to what he now recognized as a brown Saigh. He was down on his back and in obvious pain. "Hello there. I,uh, I'm sorry about that." he apologised, feeling very uncomfortable "Does it hurt a lot?"

Alastrine barely managed to get up after Betzalel crashed into her. 'That was my fault, anyway. Stupidest thing I've ever done.' She shook off the dizziness and followed her brother. "We pretty much ruined your walk, huh? Can you walk?" she asked as she sat down next to Betzalel, watching the brown male with a curious look "What's your name? I'm Alastrine and this large brute" here she was interrupted by a loud 'Hey!' from said 'brute' "is my little brother Betzalel." Well, he was the second born.

He heard voices; that meant that those blurs must have been fast--no, really fast Saigh. And they had stopped for him; how kind. As he began to try to decipher what the Saigh were saying--it was very difficult to focus--Mathúin caught the male's question. Opening his eyes, the brown Saigh saw that it was the shadowy Saigh that was speaking; it made sense, he supposed, he even sounded large. Mathúin chuckled at his own idiocy, how could someone sound large? And then he laughed that he chuckle in his situation. The pain increased, blood pounded in his ears. He laughed harder. When he finally regained composure, he wiped emotion off his face like dirt; with a paw.

"Yeah, it hurts... a lot." Despite his obvious pain, he thought it seemed rude to lay down and force his company to talk over him, so he stood--albeit on three legs. He smiled at the small white female as she talked, his eyes much more comfortable on a Saigh closer to his own size.

"Yes, I think I will be able to walk, though I do not think it will be as much fun." He paused as Alastrine introduced the duo, raising his eyebrows slightly when she called him little, and then took his turn, "I am Mathúin, it's a pleasure to meet you. I have not seen you around the plains before, and though rarely leave my den, that is quite rare. Are you new to our home, and if so, where from do you come? I am unfamiliar with other colonies of Saigh." Admitting a lack of knowledge was difficult for Mathúin, yet necessary. Surprisingly, however, he found it was even more difficult to do in front of this Alastrine-female--how odd.

Betzalel shifted uncomfortably at the obvious pain Mathuin was in. His ears dropped, felt very bad about what he had done. His size had many advantages when it came to protection, but it was also quite the burden. When he was younger he had to be very careful when playing with other cubs, he could easily break someone's leg by just stepping on it. He hoped he hadn't broken Mathuin's bones.

Looking at the other male standing on three legs he decided he couldn't leave him. It wasn't safe for him to wander on his own in this state. "It's a pleasure, Mathuin, and I really am sorry that I caused you pain. I think me and my sister should help you get back home. It would be terrible of me to leave you on your own after I trampled over you like that." The last part was said with obvious discomfort. He hated hurting others, even if it was an accident.

Alastrine gave him her best smile "I am pleased to meet you, too. And I called him 'little' because he is second-born." she explained with a chuckle, seeing his slight surprise "You are right, we are not from these lands. Our previous home is beyond those hills."the albino Saigh motioned to the high landmass in the distance "The Clan that lives there is a small one with decades old traditions." Alastrine made a face that clearly stated she didn't think much of those 'traditions' "Now we have returned to the birthplace of our mother." Typically Alastrine wasn't one to share her life story with someone she had just met, but this Mathuin seemed nice and interesting.

Glancing at Betzalel, Mathuín tried to imagine why his mother named him bear, and he guessed she must have done it just for his color, or else as joke. Knowing his mother's sense of humor, he thought it was probably the latter. He wasn't scrawny per say, just average on the smaller side of the spectrum.

Mat's face scrunched as he held back correcting Betzalel; My sister and I, he repeated to himself, forcing a strained smile. He dearly hoped that the twins would excuse his pained expression in the context of the recent incident. He did not want to appear harsh, and he was bitingly aware that correcting another's speech definitely fell under the harsh category. He politely looked at the giant creature as he spoke, but his eyes immediately darted back to Alastrine when the black Saigh finished.

He listened silently as Alastrine spoke, hanging on to her every word; he had never heard of another clan before. When she finished, he merely murmured, "Intriguing" and let the subject rest. Mat made a mental note to return and finish on the subject later, but as it was, it surprised him that the girl would confess even that much to him during their first encounter.

And though he didn't mention it again, he mulled over the idea of other clans in his mind. Perhaps she told me because her old pride valued honesty? He wondered, and as he wondered, he stared at Alastine with a quizzical expression.

When he finally came out of his reverie, he began to limp towards him home. "It's over this way," He called as he continued hobbling on. He would not look foolish. Not as a representative of the Saigh that lived here; not in front of the duo; not in front of Alastrine.

Alastrine wondered why Mathuin looked at her so strangely when she told him a bit about her origins. She figured it was probably weird that she would share that much after she had just met him. It was a bit thoughtless of her to do that, she agreed on that.

She waited for Mathuin to get a few paces away before stepping closer to her brother and gently rubbing her nose against his cheek. She saw in his eyes that he understood and then bounced after Mat and fell in to step with him.

Betzalel began slowly walking after them with a small smile on his maw, keeping his distance. He enjoyed the view and kept an eye out for trouble. Not that he really expected something to attack them in the open plains. It was more out of habit.

So his sister wanted some time alone with the other male. Interesting. After all, they had just met him. Well, if he played nice, Betzalel has no problem with it. So far he seemed a fairly normal guy. Lel's smile broadened as he watched Rin babble something to the brown Saigh. She was happy and that should be enough for him.

At first Alastrine just walked next to Mathuin wondering what to ay. She rarely found herself at a loss of words and it made her very uncomfortable. She didn't like it one bit.

Her gaze turned to Mat and she observed him. Her eyes traced the line of spots above his eyes and the stripes on his back and legs. His front leg that was currently causing him to limp. She almost cringed at the thought that it was Lel's fault. She hoped it wasn't broken, just bruised. "Rest, that's all he needs." she assured herself. In that train of thought, he probably shouldn't be walking. though she doubted Mathuin would agree for Lel to carry him (which the black Saigh would have no problem doing). In her experience, boys never let themselves look weak.

Realizing she was staring, the white lynx returned her gaze to the path ahead. "Do you live out here alone?" she hoped she wasn't being too nosy "The woods we come from are dangerous and it is rare to see a lone Saigh. Things seem quite different here."

"Yeah, I live alone," huffed the brown Saigh, "but the caves are all very near to each other. I for, instance, have some very... loud neighbors."

Mat paused as he considered how to respond to the information she gave about her clan. "Yes, I've heard the woods are dangerous; as such I, like most of these Plains Saighneian, try to avoid venturing into it." Mat glanced at the ground and took a deep breath before continuing.

"Most Saighneian here are unaware that outside clans exist. I... was never sure if I believed that, but I still didn't think that any foreign Saighneian would come to our lands any time soon." Mat frowned at ground, he didn't like being confused, and at the moment he was just that: utterly confused.

"From how you speak of them, I can assure you that those that reside here are very different. There are few, if any, Saighneian here that would wish harm on another. And we are the largest creatures around, so we have nothing to be afraid of in terms of predators." Mat smiled; he had a rather pleasant life, now that he thought about it.

Alastrine laughed softly at the 'loud neighbors' remark. "We're pretty used to noisy neighbors. Being in a clan and all. It's the silence I don't like."

While listening to Mat, Ala noted his manner of speaking. He was an intellectual person. It made her feel a bit embarrassed. But his voice was somewhat soothing and she found she was hanging on to his every word. She could listen to him talk all day.

"I guess it's always strange when you see a new face in your lands." She mused. "Especially if they come from a far away place."

"I'm glad to hear that." Ala smiled. "I'm not afraid of a challenge, but I've had my fair share. It will be nice to live peacefully after all those years." It seemed the stories they were told were true. The plains were somewhat of a paradise.

Mat enjoyed the company of this fem; she was upbeat yet not obnoxious, and it was breath of fresh air, quite frankly. "Silences can be awkward occasionally," Mat nodded, "but sometimes they are just calming. Especially during the night, which is the exact time at which my neighbors insist on making a racket."

The brownish-red Saigh released a breath he did not notice taking. "It's strange indeed, and it was a tad painful," Mat motioned to his leg with a joking sad smile, "but overall, it's a very pleasant experience." At this point, Mat allowed himself a grin, subconsciously showing off his large sharp teeth. They were white and clean--Mat thanked whatever gods may exist that he had been out for a walk rather than a hunt.

"I hope you will not encounter any challenges here. In fact, if you've just arrived, you'll probably need a place to stay for the night. Like I said, I do live alone, so there would be plenty of room and--" Mat cut himself off, realizing the other thing he had said, so he quickly added, "but then again, as all of the caves are very near to each other, you and your brother could merely claim an unoccupied one."

Mat's brow ruffled as he made this suggestion, though, as it was not what he wanted to happen. He would quite like it if the two would stay with him at least for the night--the company would serve him well. Loneliness? What a terrible, terrible emotion. Mat mentally harumphed: he did not feel lonely--of course not! Ha, lonely! Mat gave his coat a shake and pawed the ground nervously. He did really want them to stay... he wasn't lonely... he was just alone, and not happy about it.
