A long, long time ago Carlisle had decided winter was a beautiful time best observed from indoors. His teachers did not share this opinion and in fact believed he was so pale he needed sun, which is why he was sent outside during recess in the wintry weather. Really, he wished it would just go on and snow already. Everyone could totally see it was coming.

He sat down on one of the bigger swings with a huff, kicking the thing into motion. The rhythmic rocking gave him something to do while he chilled out- literally. In a typical stroke of genius, he had brought the wrong gloves with him to school, and no way would he wear baby-pink gloves. He might not mind being mistaken for a girl, but when people deliberately called him female, it bothered him a lot. He decided, while pouting, that if he had to be outside, he'd rather be outside with another person. Letting his feet scrape the ground and stop the swing, he looked around.

Was anyone coming this way?...

Cecelia loved wintertime, but greatly disliked the cold itself. A warm hat was pulled snugly over her pointy ears, and she was wrapped in several warm sweaters and a coat. So tightly bundled against the elements was she that some movements were difficult, but she could still play just fine in the crisp air.

There were snow clouds in the distance, and she willed them to come closer and dump their glorious piles of cold white stuff all over the grey playground.

Skipping along, and nearly tripping over her long pink-and-green scarf, she spotted a girl sitting all by herself on the swings. She didn't recognize the other child, which meant she wasn't in her class. No one should have to play alone, she decided, especially in this weather.

Still skipping, she approached the other child.

"Hi there!" She said brightly. "What are you doing over here all by yourself?"

"Hello," said Carlisle in a surprised tone. Where had she come from? The scarf was so eye-grabbing he didn't see how he'd missed it. At her question, he shrugged and let himself come to a complete stop. It took him a moment to process the question- he wasn't by himself anymore, after all. Blankly and clearly confused, he continued, "It's recess. None of my friends are here today."

It was true. He didn't see Nataya (who he sort of knew) or Zara or even that jerk Merroth around anywhere.

Cecelia's eyed widened, oopies, this was a boy. Good thing she hadn't said anything to embarrass either of them, but that hair, she didn't know any boys who had hair like that.

"I'm sorry your friends aren't here!" She told him sincerely, hiking up the scarf, so it wouldn't drag. "Can I play with you?" She grinned, and then went to sit on the swin next to him.

She liked playing with new people, maybe if it actually snowed they could make snowmen or something.

He smiled gratefully. "Sure, that would... rock," said Carlisle, though he sounded uncertain about the way he was using the verb. The chains creaked as he started to swing again, but he ignored it. All of his attention was focused on the girl next to him- it was actually a little bit creepy. "My name is Carlisle," he offered, because he couldn't think of something else to say yet.

Cece giggled uncomfortably as she pushed lightly against the ground with the toes of her pink-laced boots causing the swing to move just a little.

"I'm Cecelia." She told him, giggling again. "But everyone calls me Cece, so that's what you can call me too." She smiled, trying her hardest to break the awkwardness.

His somewhat scary expression probably didn't help, he decided, so he focused on something else. "Cece?" He smiled brightly, which did dissipate some of the 'creep' factor. "It's nice to meet you, Cece. What's your favorite class?" For a moment, he watched the girl sort-of swing, then he asked, "D'you want me to push you? You can go higher that way."

"Yesssss!" Cecelia squeeled with delight. There were very few things in the entire world better than being pushed on the swings. Never-mind that she couldn't think of any of them at the moment. She blushed and quickly corrected her bad manners. "But only if you really want too!" The look in her eyes said that she really wanted him to. . .

He slid off his swing, making a slight 'oof' noise as he did because he hadn't let the swing stop before hopping off. "Okay," Carlisle said with a smile. With a much more marked spring in his step, he moved around the swingset so he could grab the chains to Cecelia's swing. Pulling the swing back, he started to push the other kid on the swings (but was very careful about not knocking her off).

"Tell me when," he instructed, meaning to tell him when she was high enough.

Cecelia's grin took up her whole face as the cold air nipped at her face. Her scarf flew free in the wind and she yelled in the joy of it all. She could smell winter in the air and in combination with the swing it was enough to make her feel energetic and happy.

"You're a great swing pusher, Carlisle!" She called over her shoulder on one of the downswings.

"Thanks!" Carlisle was clearly a lot happier pushing her on the swings than sitting on the other swing and practically competing with her. This way, both of them won! Well, Cecelia more than himself, obviously, but he was having fun, too.

Cecelia looked to the sky, which was dark gery with heavy clounds. On the upward swing she made a grap at it, as if she could swing on the clouds.

"Do you think it'll snow?" She giggled at Carlisle on her way back down. "I hope it does!"

He made a face, but anyone could see it was totally gonna end up being a white weekend, and maybe a white Christmas. Maybe if it snowed hard enough, he would miss out on this weekend's round of parties. "Yeah, I bet it will," he agreed, reaching up to add even more height to Cecelia's swing. After that one, he scooted off to the side so he didn't get hit; sending her up too high meant she might fall off, and that Carlisle did not want.

"Good! I love snow!" She giggled, coming back down from the high arch, and dragging her feet a little. That last push had sent her a little high for comfort. She slowed a bit, her wide eyes still watching the sky.

"Maybe," She said conspiritorially. "Maybe, it'll show while we're still at school and we'll be stuck here and can't go home." She looked a little distressed by the idea.

The look on her face was perfectly mirrored by his. "That would be horrible. Not the snowing, but... getting stuck here. You don't think they'd honestly make us stay, right? Because lots of us go home through dimensional doors and stuff, it wouldn't work right... Right?" Being stuck at school was one of his worst nightmares, honestly he would rather die than stay here. (Well, not really. It was just an expression.)

"I live in Aekea, in Gaia," he said thoughtfully. "I think I'd be able to go home rightly..."
