The she wolf was clearly half starved, even so she walked tall and proud, she had a strange strength to her. Of course any wolf, any animal that lived in the conditions provided here would have to have some form of ability, some strength. Miles away from any water source, wide open land covered in dry dirt, sand, and rocks.

This land was not the lush beautiful landscape that almost all the other wolves dwelled in, there were no mighty trees here to provide shade. No gentle stream babbled it's way along, no mighty mountains rose above the skyline frosted in snow. These were the lands far away, the outlands.

It was here that Zira thrived, who knew what family she came from, or from what pack she may have broken away from. All that was known was that this lone female lived underneath a rocky outcropping in the middle of a land that seemed inhabitable.

Today the fierce lone female was gnawing on a long dried bone and soaking in the sun, the harsh light fell relentlessly on the already burning ground. Zira splintered off a few more bits of bone her torn ear flicking back as she looked up curiously. How strange...she thought she heard something alive in the distance...but what could be alive out here? Prey wasn't stupid enough to get near her dwelling.

The black male meandered over the sand dunes keeping his mis-matched blue and green eyes open for any sign of a white glint on the horizon. No such glint caught him but the scent of something that didn't seem to belong in the cast expanse of nothingness did.

He wrinkled his nose at the scent of another wolf, but maybe she had information that could be useful to him. He turned his nose to the pathetic winds that sweeps the sands and followed it to the source as best he could. He pads burned with each step into the hot sand, his nose dry from the heat of it all, but nothing was going to stop him. Especially now.

The fire that had separated him and his Mate was fresh on his mind day after day and each night he slept terribly, waking in sweats and fits. It had been months now, he should have given up, but nothing would stop him in his madness and determination to find Asharadine.

The browned wolf barely caught his eye, if not for her scent he would have passed her completely. He raised his head and licked at his muzzle attempting to wet his nose. Water was pitiful but it mattered not to him. He approached the she wolf and held his head high. "A strange place to find anot'er." he said with a strange thick accent from a far off land. "I am on a search for my Mate. She is a whi'e wolf wit' pale green eyes, has any such a wolf been t'rough here?" he asked eying the petrified bone the female was chewing. Not that he wanted it, but rather more in wonder of why she was attempting to eat it.

Zira's eyes widened as she saw another wolf in the distance, she inhaled to ensure it wasn't a mirage. Dry dust swirled against her nose but so did the scent of a strange new male. Her eyes narrowed as she took in his black pelt, how he must be suffering under the harsh sun. She shook off and stood to see what could have brought another of her kind into this unfriendly terrain.

Zira kicked the bone back and grinned at his words, the accent told her that he was new to this place, passing through probably, poor fellow. Her smile looked more like a snarl, but a creature from such a harsh place was bound to be a bit hardened herself.

"Indeed, I haven't seen another in so long..." She was about to ask what could have brought him out to this place when she heard of his search.
"I've seen glints of white in the distant jungles when I hunt further from here, but who can say what it was? The sun plays cruel tricks."

Raco gave a nod to the scraggly wolf. "My t'anks for your assistance." he said with a bow of his head. He could not help but feel some pity for the wolf, but he still could not understand why she would be found so far out from any of the things needed to survive.

"Why is it t'at you are out 'ere. T'e quality of life mus' be very 'arsh on you." he said sitting himself down, his rump stinging a little from the heat of the sand. He panted a little in hope of keeping himself cool, but such was near impossible in a place like this and his dark pelt helped him none.

"I dare say, your last meal was quite some time ago, at least a decent one..." he said cocking his head.

She chuckled and shrugged "It's only as hard as I make it, you get used to it after long enough...I couldn't handle things where I used to live. I'm better suited to this life...though there's certainly a lack of company."

Her tail swept the ground and she glanced back over her shoulder. "Come...you can rest in the shade and I'll get you a bite to eat, if you continue your search out here you'll need it."

She stood and headed towards the rocky outcropping that made a hard hot den, but at least here the ground wasn't blisteringly hot.

Raco stood and followed the she wolf. It was often rare to find other wolves will to give such kindness. He would have refused to food, but his stomach quickly snarled in its own protest to his modesty. He flattened his ears for a moment thinking to himself. Sad that my own stomach revolts against me at a time like this. But it has been some time since I have had a proper bit of meat.

Once in the shade the dark wolf lay himself down, the strange whitish markings over his right eye and side of his neck showing up more brightly in the shade. The sand was still hot, but it was more of a warming sensation rather than the burn that the sand in the sun gave ones paws.

"Your kindness is very much appreciated. I will be sure to return t'e favor as soon as I can." he said bowing his head to the female.

Zira chuckled softly at the growl of his stomach and slunk deeper into her shadowy den returning with dirt on her paws and long dried stripes of meat in her mouth. She rolled a fruit towards him and sat down throwing the dried meat between his paws.

"It's probably not the same fare others are used to, but it's the best there is out here that isn't fresh. If you chew on the fruit a bit you'll get some liquid, it'll give you a bit more energy."

She sat down and gazed at him her eyes sharp, but not cruel. "I suggest you head towards the jungles to continue your search, or keep yourself better fed and watered, or your search will come to a rather abrupt end."

Raco tilted his head at the dried meat but did not question it at all. The smell was that of the meat, so there was no fresh blood, he had been living for some time on berries and plant-life rather than flesh and blood. A n** at the dried meat made him pull back at the strength of it's taste.

The taste was much more potent than fresh meat and lacked the tang of blood, but the flavoring was good, something he would have to admit appeased his taste. He chewed relentlessly at the strips, never once being protective of the food that he had been so graciously given. The fruit he kept a paw on the entire time.

Once finished with the meat and bite at the fruit and liked his chops as the juices began to flow sweet and light on his tongue. "My t'anks to you again. Never before 'ave I tasted such t'ings...t'ey are qui'e pleasant..." he said nipping at the fruit again, taking off a piece of the plump flesh.

"I will be sure to do so...I will return wit' a gift for 'ou as soon as I can. T'at is my promise to you for your kindness to me." he said gnawing at the fruit, enjoying it's taste more and more. He preferred it quite a bit more than the taste of any meat, a very strange way for a wolf to think.

Zira smiled as she watched the other wolf eat, she was glad to see that another could appreciate the harsher ways of survival. Her methods for staying alive out in this harsh outland had made her wonder at her ability to ever return to a normal pattern of behavior.

"It is meat, from a striped four legged creature, they live in vast herds near water, farther in from here. I dry it or it would spoil or be scavenged." She smiled as he devoured the fruit as well, certain his body needed the liquid that it provided.

"Your company is gift enough, I hope you find your mate though, should I see her I will tell her to remain as my guest for a while until you can return." Zira doubted the likelihood of ever seeing another wolf again, as much as she wished she might.

Raco finished gnawing at the fruit, leaving nothing left but the core in the middle which he would eventually chew up as well. "Yes, the meat is somet'ing I have never encountered before, t'ough I 'ave to admit t'e taste is amazing." he said laying his head on his paws. His belly well sustained to last him for a good week now if he was guessing right. He was not one to eat large amounts of meat at a time, but rather smaller quantities that were richer as so that he need not depend on constant food.

But he shook his head, he could not accept so little of a thanks for her kindness. Especially in the harsh times that held the wolves these days where so many were loners, pups losing parents left and right, a little kindness was something one did not see often. "I t'ank you, but I must do more to repay you. Come wit' me if you like, your company would be well welcomed." he said lifted his muzzle a little. "Asharadine would be pleased." he said blinking his mis-matched eyes.

"This has been my home for so long...it would be hard for me to leave it now. Here I am the strongest, for being the only one..." She chuckled wryly.

"The felines here are the only things I need to watch myself around." She stretched and shook off getting the dust from her coat. "Everything out here works in a group, a herd, a pride, a pack...it's strange not seeing others of my kind. Not to have a pack...but then again many are loners now." She shrugged and relaxed back looking less scraggly when surrounded by the jagged rocks. Here it was clear that Zira belonged.

"May I have your name stranger?" I'll keep an eye out for your Asharadine."

Raco nodded as he looked at the she wolf. She did seem to blend into the deathly nature around her as though she truly did belong here. It was like this environment was made for her. "I can see...you truly do belong 'ere." he said bowing his head.

He listened over the the small collections of life that did exist in this harsh terrain. But this was the truth, many wolves that he had crossed were alone and had probably never experienced pack life. If him and his mate had not been separated they would have a small family of their own he hoped, their few attempts to do so has so far failed. "T'ere are many t'ese days t'at travel alone...it is as t'ough packlife no longer exists." he said sadly shaking his head.

Raco lowered his head surprised with himself for not having remembered to introduce himself. "My apologies, my name is Raco Shadou, but please just call me Raco." he said closing his eye and thinking of his beloved, wherever she was he only hoped she was well.

"I would see to a pack here...if there were more then myself, but this land is too harsh it seems." She wondered if packs were breaking apart in the forests as well, what would cause any wolf to want to be alone? Of course she herself was alone, but if she had other wolves in this barren land she would want them to be her company.

"I am Zira..." She tipped her muzzle and nodded "Pleasure to meet you Raco"

Raco looked around to the barren land around them. Yes it was harsh, maybe much too harsh for many wolves who were well accustomed to the cushioned life of the wood where hunt was usually good, so unlike this land. "Yes, I 'ave to agree, few wolves would be willing to settle as a pack in such conditions. T'e life of the wood calls to t'em much more so than a land as 'arsh as t'is." he said licking his paw pads from their callouses that strung a little from his long journey.

"Zira, an intriguing name..." he said adding on, "T'e pleasure is mine."

Zira nodded softly at his words and stretched her spine was a rigid line along her back, the bone structure parting her dry fur. She licked her lips and sat back down with a soft sigh.

"One becomes used to the lay of the land, and I think that it's harshness serves to strengthen...perhaps I alone can appreciate it's strange and silent beauty. The forest and jungles are too green, their moisture is all around, it's as if your breathing, only to drown."

She tipped her muzzle and grinned at him "Or maybe it's just me..."
