Curled at his mother's side Rook slept peacefully. His skin still damp from a pre-bedtime bath he was wholly comfortable, feeling not at all the wight of the shackle on his leg on the pull of gravity on his tail which hung over the side of the bed. The young boy breathed a steady rhythm while beneath their closed lids his eyes moved rapidly while he dreamed.

Rook was warm, surrounded by water and low soothing sound he didn't understand. Above him was only whiteness strange bumpy whiteness.

Galleai had become accustomed to finding herself in strange places while sleeping. Before she had been born, all that time was consisted of flitting from one mind to another, though she didn't entirely grasp what it was she was doing or how she got to where she was.

In this dream, she looked rather like a large white cat with tiny purple wings on each of her paws and a purple jewel set in her forehead. She had often looked like this when she had been wandering and before she was born. Before she knew what she really looked like.

In this dream there was water. In this dream there was whiteness. Galleai tested the dreamer's mind without even realizing it, and then decided the dream needed color. She painted in a sky at twilight, shining with barely-there stars and touched with pale clouds. That was better.

"Hello?" She called out, satisfied with the sky. Where was the dreamer? There was always a dreamer in a dream, after all. So where were they?

In the muted light the slate Grey Rook was hard to find. He had been surprised when suddenly above him had changed colour and looked like outside the barrier, had he fallen through it somehow?

Looking up, crimson eyes saw something weird and unfamiliar. Still, it had a tail like him that made it safe and it was talking nice enough. Reaching out with each three fingered hand Rook waved and offered a smile.

Galleai saw the waving grey hands and padded closer, a feline smile crossing her face. She twitched her tail a little. "Hello" She said. Talking animals were perfectly acceptable in a dream world, after all. And Galleai wasn't prone to considering such things anyways. She had little to no real knowledge of the waking world yet. "You're very pretty." She added.

Unlike treading water which Rook had never done before now but was instinctual; talking was hard. The words he knew and understood were based solely on the things had he heard in the cold dark place and then after appearing out of it. he did know words just not a lot, still the more this one talked to him the more it helped him want to be vocal as well.

"Hello," he echoed " I'm Rook." His eyes went again from the girls face to her tail, the sight of it causing his own to twitch in the water creating tiny waves that spread out into forever. His young mind was still processing the compliment , still trying to decide how to respond to it.

Galleai had a pretty decent concept of speech, at least when she was asleep. She didn't know very many words in the real world, but the language of dreams was something that came second-nature to her. "Rook." She echoed, then did a very un-catlike thing and slid into the water next to him. Her tail turned finned and, in that way dreams have of making the most ridiculous things seem perfectly natural, she seemed right at home in the water. "Nice." She commented. She'd never tried swimming before.

" Who are you?" Rook asked as he reached out to touch this strange one who'd joined him in the water. They were weird the way things kept changing around them but it was ok becuase they seemed nice. Rook swept his thick tail across the surface of the water and created a small tidal wave just a few inches high. Could the strange one do that?

As if aware of the closeness of a magical being the fire opals embedded within the boy shone unnaturally bright.

"I dont know." Galleai replied honestly. Then she giggled as the wave hit her and tried the same trick, though she managed to produce little more than a ripple in the water. "I think that I'm called Galleai."

" That's pretty." Rook said, he didn't know many named but he knew Galleai appealed to him. The tiny ripple she made brought another smile to the boys lips, his tail didn't change but it was better for splashing. Still Rook was not completely aquatic and even in dreams his body longed for land. In the distance a small solid expanse appeared, flat and fuzzy like the carpet of the place where Rook lived.

Using one hand to try and pull himself towards it the young boy pointed with the other. " No more water."

"Oh, good job!" Galleai was delighted at the sight of land. And the fact that this dreamer clearly had enough control to make things when he wanted them. That was so great! She paddled beside him, slightly awkwardly. Land, Galleai decided, would be terribly nice.

Rook dog paddled steadily through the water. He had never done this before , it wasn't at all like the bath but still it felt right. subconsciously his tail acted like a rudder helping the boy even in his dream adjust his course so as not to swim into Galleai.

Finally after what seemed liked forever Rook reached the shore and crawled onto the soft surface. This too was good, water was nice but it felt good to be able to lay and be still to. Still the boy's crimson eyes flicked over to look at his companion. " We're safe now."He said cryptically.

"Safe from what?" Galleai asked slightly apprehensively, shaking her fur out until it puffed up. This dream didn't feel like a nightmare, but those things could change faster than a person could blink. She eyed the water cautiously, wondering if there were terrible things beneath it's surface.

Rook laughed at the sight of Gal's fur as it puffed out in her attempts to dry herself. It was just .. it made him smile and laugh to see something so silly. Curious and with no concept of personal space he reached out to pet the fluffy white fur." Safe from disappearing."

Pulled from the recesses of the boy's mind there was a strange sucking sound and out in the vast expanse of water a small whirlpool appeared. Subconcious for the most part but Rook did remember this happening before. You left the water, the noise came and then a swirling vortex appeared to take away the water. It was possible maybe though that the vortex could come sooner so being on land was good.

Galleai purred as she was petted. That was very nice! She liked it when people did that. "I wouldn't like to dissapear..." She said, watching the water as it was sucked away. "Would that suck us away too, if we were caught in it?"

Sight, sound and smell were the most commonly accessed senses in dreams. The dreamer saw what was around them heard it and on occasion if food or something gross was involved smelled it. Touch then taste respectively followed. Many people dreamed, claim to have eaten favorite foods and gotten no taste. Or died painfully in a nightmare but remembered no pain.

In any case a sensation brought on by touch should have to have been felt before and yet. As Rook pet Gall and she made a strange noise he felt vibrations run through his fingers and hand. It was sort of pleasant really.

" Maybe" Rook was uncertain, they might be sucked away like the water or they might not.he wasn't taking chances. " I don't want you to disappear either" He said softly as an afterthought. Galleai was nice and soft and she had a tail too which amused him for no real reason.

Moving his left leg the chain attached to the shackle on it jingled softly.
