What do you think of Square Enix's attempt at making their version of Suikoden?

I find it to be a first rate knock off but a knock off just the same. When Square Enix's steals and idea at least they do a good job.I enjoy the game however it is more difficult to find who what and when, when it comes to obtaining characters.

Eh... I'm really itching to click that lock button at the bottom, given that all other game discussion are to be in the appropiate thread. But! If you can give some better points and analysis to your comparison, I'll not touch it.

The Death of Soma Eh... I'm really itching to click that lock button at the bottom, given that all other game discussion are to be in the appropiate thread. But! If you can give some better points and analysis to your comparison, I'll not touch it. Really the only two similarities i have found is the number of possible party members and the distrust between humans and all others such as elves dwarves etc. there are 177 possible party members. The battle system is completely different and there are no major battles. In most articles written about the game it has in fact been compared to our beloved Suikoden series.

Which is my main point that it's wrong for them to compare it to suikoden when suikoden surpasses Radiata Stories by a landslide. Also, Suikoden is based on the 106 stars while Radiata Stories, like Chrono Cross, just has a bunch of useless random characters in it. At least in Suikoden most characters had a solid purpose in the game.

yes it is but Radiata Stories isn't which makes it impossible to compare so what is wrong with Gamepro and why did they attempt to compare the two

i liked this game emmensely -- although i did think at first how much likeness it had with suikoden. but the thing is, you don't need to collect ALL characters. it's useless, and impossible actually since you'll need to take sides later on, to collect everyone and it's not like you'll need them in a huge battle or something.
actually this game was done by the same people who did Valkyrie Profile -- another collect characters type of game -- the main character, Lenneth Valkyrie, is also an unlockable character in Radiata, hehehe...
anyway, there's really no use comparing suikoden to radiata just on the character collecting system. other games have already done it. another title with this similarity is CHRONO CROSS.

Chrono Cross great game but almost all the characters you get actaully have something to do with the story to bad you can only get 40 out of the what 45 first time through.

ChaseTriggerfist What do you think of Square Enix's attempt at making their version of Suikoden? I wish you had filled us in a little more about what Radiata is when you started this thread because I wasn't sure in what regard you thought Radiata was a Suikoden rip-off. I didn't even know what Radiata is. Sorry, I guess I'm just not up on my video game news these days. . .

It is alright, I havent finished the game yet but here is what I think so far.
There are some elements in this game which I would like to see more often, mainly revolving around the cities, for example how the characters were going about a schedule constantly moving around the city and doing things not just standing statically saying the same 2 phrases over and over. Also the size of the main city with so much in it to explore really seemed to bring that to life. The humor and the graphics are also nice.
The problems Ive had with this game are cliches within the story line. the whole humans versus everyone else thing is really getting old. Also I agree many of the characters feel like accessories whereas in Suikoden you can actually see a reason for them to be there. (with some noteable exceptions of course but that is a matter of opinion) Honestly at some times I dont really see a reason for the main character to be on anyones "side".
I am however enjoying my time with the game, there arent many things that are wrong with the game other than I suppose minor annoyances (that I can see so far anyway.)
I suppose in the end its entirely a matter of opinion.

Hero Of Three Kingdoms IMO the reasons are given why he would pick sides one for love the other to honor his father in a way. I see, that seems very..stereotypical to me but thats ok I suppose. Ah well he doesnt really seem the type to have grandiose (not sure if that is the right word) reasons for doing things anyway. *shrug* (what does IMO mean anyway?)
