Hi All Old Farts,
Day after tomorrow, the American Old Farts will all be celebrating our accomplishments of the past year by gathering with family &/or friends to feast on Turkey dinner 'til we burst our buttons and fall asleep at the table. wink
I want to thank you all for being friends and wish you another prosperous year ~ whether or not you live in the US.
And, I'd love to learn about everyone's various traditions regarding this (genre of) celebration. And also how much you love/dread this retrospective festivity.

I'll go first.
I've already traveled the 550 miles to my parents' house in San Diego. Dad bought our turkey yesterday. And he found a bird without added salt (b/c he had to have one kidney removed last year & now eats restricted salt diet).
This year we will celebrate with only my immediate family (although our tradition is to sometimes have just our immediate family and sometimes to join cousins, aunts, & uncles on my Dad's side). My preference is for the quintessential traditional turkey dinner. But those particular foods are not my sister's dining pleasure. So we usually a pretty-much completely traditional dinner.
I do look forward to this retrospective because I am always glad of another year well done and hopeful of continued improvement during the next year. wink
Best Wishes!!!
p.s. Yeay Pillsbury crescent rolls (original flavor)!!!! Woot

When we eat at home by ourselves, just family, we make Lasagna instead of turkey... but this year, it's just the three of us so we're going to a friend's house to eat with their family. ^__^ We just have to bake pie... mmmm...

That sounds like it will be really good. biggrin It's funny about your lasagna b/c I've just finished one that I made for "before-Thanksgiving". It's been yummy.

We will stay at home. Christmas is Eirwyn's holiday-with-family; as it is a 300-mile drive to their home, she does not wish to do it two months in a row. And she will charge forth to seek fabulous bargains the day after. smile

We don't have this kind of day at all, closest similar is Easter, but you know.. Having a day when people thank each others would be nice.
I'm using the chance there: Happy thanksgiving to all. smile

I think we'll be going to my sister-in-law's parent's house for Turkey Day, but I'm not sure. If we do, it'll be my first actual Thanksgiving in like almost a decade, since I've been living alone and working on Holidays all the time before. So on the one hand, I'm kind of looking forward to it, but if it turns out I'm not invited or something then it won't be a huge disappointment since I'm used to not doing anything for Thanksgiving. xD
When I still lived at mom's, we'd do the huuuuge traditional dinner, with mom getting up at the buttcrack of dawn to start the turkey, and me always getting in her way in the kitchen. xD We'd eat early in the afternoon, then sit around and watch movies all day, and then make sandwiches from the leftovers at dinnertime. I miss that! emo
