As usual, the stallion was hunting. It wasn't the usual hunting that Kalonas bothered themselves with. That sort of thing was too messy and ridiculous. So instead, he was hunting for a certain species, and it was a species that had a range of personalities. They weren't hard to find, and they weren't hard to catch. Females continued to be a game for him, and his morning was already very eventful in those he'd met. Both mares he'd rendezvous with had excellent personalities and assets, and he left his lunch break feeling fulfilled and happy. He really was too good at what he did. So now he was relaxing and taking a quiet stroll, since the scenery allowed for some self-meditation.

Soon his least favorite season would come, and he was already pissed off about it. He hated the wintertime, so that was probably why he was being so unbelievably social at the moment. He didn't have much time out in the open, and he was taking advantage of the days he still had left. He usually went into strange bouts of hibernation, since he had to keep himself intact and pretty when Spring arrived. But for now, he could walk around even when the air was sort of chilly, since the sun allowed for some warmth even on the windiest of days.

With a grin, he bounced along an open trail and took in as much sunlight as possible. His eyes were closed and comforted, and his hair was flowing behind him in a usual manner. Life was good. But for Ariston, it was always good.

Puchi had never been a soquili that allowed such mundane things to trouble her. She was no tomboy, was aware of her own personal appearance and took pride on it but she had time for fun. If one were to be covered in mud during play then there was no harm done, it was just a matter of entertainment. Mud could be cleaned off and she was of the firm belief that life was a little empty if you couldn't have fun - those who prided themselves on appearance were entitled to it but they were missing out! Thus it should have come at no surprise that the mare was not adverse to prancing about in the soggy leaves and squelching mud.

She was an autumn baby, still young but maturing fast in her own right she was savouring the shift in seasons. Oh she knew that there were many that disliked them, many animals even slept through winter but to her...there was something special about it. The forests sang a different song, the whispers of the winter nymphs and some of the scenary was incredibly. Perhaps she was one of the few to savour it but the changing colours of the leaves brought on great excitement in the petite mare.

Granted others found more entertainment in the changes that occured in her. Generally slender in the spring, the mare's winter coat had grown in and she was no longer as slim as she once appeared. For all intents and purposes one might have mistaken her for a pudgy and very fluffy soquili. This wasn't strictly true as she was thin but given her mountainous origins she simply couldn't avoid the insane thickness of her coat. She was fat, but she was warm and that was all that mattered to her...even if people did laugh at her.

Lowland soquili were strange.

Alas, casting such thoughts aside she had already begun to explore the open trails again. A soft hum escaped from her lips and with a soft whicker she moved onwards. Hooves sifting through fallen leaves, she found her pale eyes flickering from side to side for things of interest and paused on occasions to inspect a treasure she had found. All in all she was content...but the mare certainly wouldnt' be adverse to more company!

Ariston flicked his ears when he realized another female was around. There went his extreme femme senses, and his eyes darted back and forth in hopes of seeing who and what was around him. He quickened his walk but remained natural in composure, and he lifted his head around as he investigated the green and brown land mass. Just as he was going to consider taking his search to the sky, he spotted the young female who was cheerfully walking not far from him. She was a young one alright, and he grinned at that realization. Hopefully she'd still provide for some nice company, since he instantly thought back to when Loveless strut around at that age. Oh how time flied.

As he neared her positioning, he generously spoke out so she'd hear him amongst the quiet area. "Good day to you." he then said, while smiling towards her. She was very natural in her coloring, and her wings were petite and reminded him of Guilian's. He always liked those feathered wings, and they looked much warmer then his own batty ones. "I hope I'm not disturbing your walk or stroll? Or disturbing your mind in the least?" Now he was much closer to the mare, and he wanted to chuckle at the mere size difference. He always seemed to tower over most, but he was used to that by now.

Since he wasn't moving anymore, he flicked his mane back so he could see the female better. As it fell around him, he tilted his head and investigated the mare's coloring. There was something familiar about it, but he couldn't trace his mind as to why. Ah well, no matter! He'd still address her as a new friend. "Are you just now at that wonderful age of a new independence? I remember those days myself.. and how much fun I had on my own." Man, he wondered if he should feel old. But if he didn't look old, then where was the problem?!

His appearance came as a surprise - a mild surprise but still a surprise that caused her to jump a little and release a squeak. She'd never been terribly dignified when it came to her entrances and introductions and as a result her confidence wasn't obliterated in the process of realising she had company. On the contrary she was really quite impressed and her eyes widened considerably as her gaze fell upon the Kalona. Oh, she'd most certainly seen Kalona before given that one patrolled her home but this one was different. Whether others (or him) cared to admit it he seemed to positively sparkle and this in itself made the mare giggle, her lips parting into an 'oh' of appreciation at the sight.

He was impressive, she'd give him that much.

Ears swivelling somewhat as he continued to speak to her, it wasn't long before the young mare came to the conclusion that this particular stallion was in fact quite a bit older than her. Her immediate assumption was that he was speaking to her as though she was still a child, reminding her of the 'good old days' in the fashion that her Grandfather often did without even really knowing it... On one hand it was quite funny, on the other it was a little bit frustrating - she was tiny but she wasn't a baby anymore! Alas she did little more than smile and cast the stubborn thoughts aside as she fixed her pale gaze on the stallion - maybe that little trait was just something older soquili couldn't stop from happening.

This in mind the mare chose only to inspect the stallion closer and after a while, noted how exceptionally well groomed he was. Mmm, perhaps he was one of those who screamed and ran from mud then! It was another thing to consider as she took note of not diving into any mud puddles in the immediate vicinity. "There's nothing better than a walk with friends," she responded happily, flicking her tail lightly against her hind leg. She wasn't aware of how naive such a response might be, but she wasn't lying about it either.

"Although if you're asking if I'm still a child..." she pondered this for a few moments before shaking her head. She puffed out her cheeks briefly and then smiled again, "I'd have to say that I haven't been one for quite a while - I'm just small like you happen to be really tall!" Exhuberant as always the mare inspected the stallion more closely and shook her head. He didn't look that old...

"Just because you're really tall doesn't make you super old, right?" she mused after a few moments, "Because I don't think I'm going to grow anymore so I may have to learn how to hover like a bumblebee..." she continued, moreso to herself than anyone else.

Ah, so they were friends now? From such a hint Ariston was able to understand the overall manner of the mare, and she was indeed soft and kind. At least she wasn't yelling at him for some unknown reason like other mares tended to do, or running away for their lives or something. So he'd take the kindness and enjoy it while he could! "Well, I'll be thankful for the company." he then added, while bowing his head most graciously. "I'm Ariston by the way... what happens to be your name?" As he lifted his head, he took advantage of the opportunity to naturally fix his hair again. Ah, how wonderful and soft it felt! He loved doing that.

At her portrayal of her age, the Kalona could only chuckle kindly. "I stand corrected then." he said in response, and he bent his legs a bit and stood more relaxedly. There was no reason to stand so straight when he was already towering over her. "There's nothing wrong with being small!" he then added, in hopes that he didn't offend her at all. "Plus I think most stallions enjoy when mares are petite, but such a detail has never really interested me per se." Since, there were other qualities he looked at as important himself. He hardly cared about height. "But I believe you are much bigger then a bumblebee." he then added, hoping that she wasn't seriously considering calling herself something so miniscule! Though...

"Hovering sounds like a nice quality, I'm jealous." he dramatically added, while picking up the lead so they could both continue walking as they were. He'd love the ability to hover around mares, and they'd probably love the attention. So really the petite mare had quite the advantage of power! "When one is this big hovering seems sort of.. scary." he rolled his eyes upward and chuckled naturally at the thought. A Kalona hovering by anything would probably look scandalous and nightmarish! It'd be totally wrong. He'd so try it sometime just to prove a point and entertain himself, but he'd definitely do it with a good friend. Oh, how one of Guilian's children would laugh!

"But alas, tell me other qualities and powers you have." he then said, in a usual playful tone. Most mares liked to talk about themselves, and Ariston was always obliged and comfortable listening.

Perhaps most ran in fear because of the species he was, Kalona often had such bad press and on most occasions her family would declare that it was 'roghtly so'. There were Kalona in this world who were not pleasant at all, who chose to eat creatures her size and as such needed to be feared. Unfortunately Puchi hadn't yet developed that strong sense of her own personal safety and as such her instincts were somewhat vague. If it was really scary then she knew that flying away was the most appropriate option but if it was 'grumpy' then she wouldn't. This Kalona was different though and expressed a natural kindness that she hadn't really witnessed in another - a shame she had yet to realise that a tiny part of this was pride and a huge ego!

Nevertheless when he made reference to his name she leaned in closely as if to tell him a secret and gently bopped his nose with her own. Some might have considered such an invasion of personal space to be rude but she couldn't help herself. The world needed to be cuddled, appreciated and showed that it was held in the highest esteem by her at the very least. Ridiculously innocent and very stupid as it may have seemed to some, it was simply who she was.

"Puchi Puri at your service!" she offered with a flourish of her own bedraggled mane, blowing it out of her eyes with a slight snort. "My Grandma said it means Petite Princess so I think everyone knew I'd be small!" she announced proudly. Seemingly undeterred by her height or how utterly strange she might have seemed, she was more than happy to speaking openly about such things. However when he mentioned her hovering she shook her head - that was something she hadn't yet mastered and he was giving her too much credit.

"Ooooh no no, I can't hover yet. I can stay up in the air real still for about two seconds then my wings get sleepy and I have to land..." she sighed a little mournfully at this and shrugged. "But with big wings like yours I reckon I could do it, you know?" She mused over his other question after this and slowly shook her head after a few moments of consideration. Did she have any other powers?

"I would say I can burp really loud but my Mother said that wasn't something you should say," she replied with a startling sincerity in her voice.

My my, this one was a personality!

He grinned at everything she did; her words, her movements; her specificity towards touching. He was now graced with a petite princess alright. But her size meant nothing to the amount of confidence and distinct flavor she exhibited. "It's an adorable name. It suites you well." Names were important to Ariston so he was glad to hear that hers was truly beneficial for her own life. Some names were just... awful. "I suppose we will have to leave the hovering for the flutters, then." he then admitted with a playful sigh. "Have you seen a flutter in action yet? I'm sure it will amuse you to no end." She was totally the type to enjoy such wonderful details. "And trust me, mine are no better. I believe there is a true art to flying but even I haven't found it yet." he trailed his eyes and thought of a certain red stallion who was tremendous in his own flying skill. "Practice makes perfect, right? So we can hope."

At her next comment he could only laugh openly with a smile. Of course her mother had said that. Her mother must of known her daughter's personality well enough to realize such words would easily escape soon enough! That sort of scenario was simple for even Ariston to understand. He loved exuberant personalities. Although two of his own children were on the quiet side, he had enough of Loveless and her children to bring a mountain to life. So, meeting someone just as pleasant and energetic was, great! "Eh, there are too many things one should not say. I believe its best to experiment until you reach your limit." he grinned then and flicked his tail in habit.

"Now now, tell me more about yourself, Ms. Puchi Puri. I can already guess on what a wonderful life you live by. Is you're family as energetic as you?" Seriously, most days it was the same old same old mare. But today proved to be different, and he could learn about someone else's lifestyle for a change. Especially since Puchi had her own family ascetics she could share with the stallion, which in tern could be evaluated into his own life. Oh knowledge. He was always on the prowl to be a better family man afterall!
PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 4:33 pm

Somewhere in the mountains Nivriti would have instinctively KNOWN that Puchi had confessed to the dreaded quirks she may have possessed. However Puchi was pretty proud of them, there were few who could make quite as much as a racket as she could. In fact, she could safely say that her Uncle Fenghuang was about the only one who could compete with her in how loud his burps could be - provided neither of them was told off before or during the competition. It wouldn't stop the competition but Fenghuang often claimed he lost his 'mojo' after he'd be reprimanded by any number of disgruntled siblings or herd members regarding his behaviour. Ah...Puchi certainly led an interesting life - mundane for the most part but not without it's memorable moments.

"Never met a flutter," she mused after a few moments, ruffling her own wings and smiling brightly as the larger stallion found entertainment in her behaviour. She aimed to please, to bring laughter and smiles to those who needed it - granted he didn't seem like he needed a great deal of it but a little mroe never hurt. "I've heard about them though, how they shrink to be even smaller than me - now I find that hard to believe cause I'm mighty tiny myself but..." she shrugged her shoulders loosely and giggled. "The world is filled with magic, Grandma Yei told me so and I believe her!"

"First I wasn't so sure...then I saw the stars dance and knew that she was right," she nodded emphatically at this and nudged lightly at his nose, rearing onto her hooves ever so slightly in order to bridge the gap. "Grandma Yei never seems to be wrong, she's so smart but even she told me that I shouldn't have burping competitions because soquili that aren't from our herd may find it a bit strange..."

For a brief moment she was quiet and seemed to be considering his question carefully. "Well some of my family are pretty active," she cooed, recalling her crazy uncles in the form of Killian and Feng, to the calmer uncle that was Ambroise. To say that her family wasn't diverse was an understatement and she couldn't speak for them all in that regard. "Some of my uncles are really loud but others are quiet, sometimes it depends on the mood really..."

"BUT!" She paused dramatically and flared her wings, pulling her lips back as if pretending to growl. "There's this big blue stallion just like you in our herd...only his hair isn't as long and pretty. He says he's more fun when he's not hungry but get this..." she gasped and leaned in again as if she was about to divulge a very valuable secret. "He says he eats rabbits and I can't let him eat the cute fluffy bunnies - so I told him I'd help him learn how to eat grass..." Again she drifted off, her ears swivelling as she remained completely unaware of how ridiculous her quest was.

"For some reason he laughed at me," she confessed and shook her head. "But Grandma and Mama always told me to be polite and not talk so much about myself - What about you?"

A pause.

"I heard stories that stallions with such lovely hair often had adventures, romantic adventures," she whispered as her eyes widened. "I dunno what that means but my Grandma seems to love those stories...makes me curious, you know?"

Ah how little she knew!

"Your grandmother speaks wisely." he then added, while suddenly realizing his own age in comparison. Ah well. He needed to expect such realizations, since he was a grandfather as well! "I can understand what your grandmother talks of at least. She is only concerned for your own appearance and how you present yourself I'm sure. There are some out there who just love to judge, even though they hardly deserve that right. And, although I am a devote follower to how important image may be, I also find laughter to be an important essence too." he nodded at that, and had truly learned to love humor lately.

He quieted himself as the mare spoke more, and he grinned at her massive amount of information. "So you have a big family, I've got that detail so far." he listened as she described a fellow Kalona stallion. He must have been very interesting himself since he was living with such a massive family! And, he imagined the family carried as friendly of personalities as Puchi had. "Well, unfortunately we Kalonas are born with teeth, and meat is just yummy. Though I try to do my own disgraceful acts on in a private area since I'd never want someone to see something disgusting or anything." A stain of blood was never allowed near his glistening body, and he was sure to always keep himself tidy and presentable."And I'm sure he's only laughing because the habit is a hard one to break. But who knows, I've heard of some doing that before. So don't give up hope with that either."

He was considering speaking out to her next question, but his ears soon flicked as he chuckled at her add-in statement. My my, what ever was she talking about?

"Romantic adventures? Lovely hair?" he couldn't hide his smile, and he only fixed his mane as he thought. "I suppose we all have our own definitions of romantic adventures, though I wouldn't say my own are romantic." He was... complicated. SImply put. "I carry all sorts of memories from many types of adventures. I am thankful for all of the fun I've carried in my life so far." his eyes drifted somewhat, and he grinned at such thoughts and images. "And soon you will have your own adventures. Maybe even as the romantic ones you speak of."
PostPosted: Sat Dec 13, 2008 7:57 am

Romantic adventures...for her? Somehow she could envision her father going absolutely berserk and the innocent mare gave a giggle. She had yet to be informed of exactly what 'romantic adventures' were, but anything to do with stallions often sent the males of her herd into 'kill on sight' mode. They had their moments in which they were terribly overprotective - in fact she could think of countless times when her eldest Uncle had nearly blown his head off when her youngest uncle had cracked an inappropriate joke. She didn't understand them but between burping and her uncle's jokes he was usually getting into some type of trouble...

"Romantic adventures? I don't even know what those are you know," she shook her mane away from her eyes and offered a small smile. "But I don't know whether they'll happen to me, if they do then they do but for now I shall try to convert those who eat bunnies - they'll be eating apples in no time," she continued with such confidence. Granted it was a subject change but given her lack of knowledge on the subject no one could accuse her of switching it for the sake of being uncomfortable, she just didn't understand the weight that such a thing carried.

"...But are you saying you eat rabbits too?" she enquired, her eyes widening at the revelation. Really she had seen the fangs within his mouth but such a beautiful stallion couldn't eat bunnies. "But you're too handsome to eat bunnies, you look like a fruit eater to me - apple pieces and berries methinks," again she nodded, rearing on her hindlegs to bop at his nose again. "You're an apple eater, don't lie to me!" She chimed and then fell quite for a few moments. She nodded slowly as he made reference to the size of her family though, aware that it seemed to have gotten much bigger recently.

Though one thing didn't add up...

"How can it be a romantic adventure if it isn't romantic?" she enquired curiously, once again renewing her own interest in the topic she clearly had no idea about. "Doesn't that just make it an 'adventure'?"

Ah yes, the meat eating question. He always wondered why the thought of eating meat was so strange to those who preferred not too, but such was nature! "As much as I enjoy fruit, I'm afraid I've been given fangs, who demand other types of proteins and fats. But I am very careful where I do consume flesh, since I'd never want to disturb the eyes of someone who didn't approve." It was common courtesy, of course. "I suppose for me and others I know eating meat has become very normal. And, although you'd like to convert your friend, I must admit on how hard the challenge itself may be. From my own habits I can admit that I will never stop eating meat. But maybe your fellow is different?" Hm. He didn't want her to bet all of her dreams on stopping someone from eating meat! Especially if he was a Kalona...

It was not Ariston's place to teach about the 'romances' that existed in the land. The gal in front of him was still young and fresh, and he figured she had a family that would explain some of life's deeper mysteries when the time allowed. So instead, he decided to save himself and the mare from his own ramblings. "Ah, I believe you solved the puzzle. I guess my adventures were only known as adventures, then!" Yeah, explaining romance to his own children was hard enough. He'd allow for this mare's family to deal with the burden themselves!

"So besides your quest to help your Kalona friend, have you created any other adventures to grasp hold of?" She was definitely the adventurous type, since she bounced right up to Ariston and was happy to chat without being nervous or afraid. That was a good quality, since many others in the land expected adventure to come to them. But adventure was something to search for and enjoy on one's own!
PostPosted: Sat Dec 20, 2008 12:50 pm

"Not really, my main concern is aiding my friend in learning to love fruit," she confessed gently. She was the spontaneous sort, not one to consider potential adventures or activities until the very moment she thought of them. It was how she preferred to live life and in that regard was much like her father - granted she had yet to meet her knight in shining armour but the majority of her family would be comforted in this. The gods only knew how happy Ambroise would be to know that his niece had not eloped with a male as quickly as his own brother had found a lover! Although the thought had crossed the mare's mind - mostly out of curiosity than anything else.

Perhaps if she had understood the issue better then she would have pursued it in greater depth but it was more of a puzzle to her. A half thought, a passing whim that she quickly dismissed as strange - shortly after she had found a soquili with fruit growing from him and the thought had been lost! Really, what was more important - romance or a soquili that looked like he was a tree? She certainly knew which one she would pick and unsurprisingly she had opted for the latter!

"I do what I feel like really, so if I think something would be fun then I do it - you know? Plans make things awkward and come sometimes make you sad..." she explained. She'd seen moments when Soquili's plans hadn't gone as they had wanted and they'd become angry. Deeply unhappy they would stomp around until something or someone was able to make them smile. She didn't want to stomp and so she remained spontaneous. Nevertheless as he made reference to his own adventures her curiosity did peek and with it came some manenrs that should have appeared far sooner.

"Enough about me though!" There were those manners. "You say you've had loads of adventures, why don't you tell me about some of yours?"

"Well, doing what you like is always a good plan." he rather liked such a way of life himself. It pretty much defined his everything. "And I suppose everyone has their own likings to how plans work. I try to brush many plans off myself, but I know that sometimes I have to act maturely and figure things out for those around me." he sighed then, and realized he hated having to be mature. "But alas, I think I'll agree with you and conclude that I would rather roam freely then have days of activities always mapped out." But hey, they were freebirds in personality. Not everyone could handle being as laid back as them.

"I like hearing about your life's details, though." he then admitted, while brushing a breeze off of his mane. The way he weighted his head helped in controlling where his mane moved about. It was an art, or rather, he imagined it that way! "But ah, I'll admit that I don't even know where to start. All of my tales are long and probably boring." He chuckled then, and scruffed his hoof along the cool grass. "Hm. When I was young, so many of my friends and family were met through competition! As silly as it sounds, I was always trying to beat my friends in everything, and now that we are all so close, there is no need for that sillyness."

He made a small pace back and forth as he thought, and he smiled again as he met the mare's eyes with his own. "But I guess like any other parent I should admit that my dear children have been my greatest adventure. It's only fair to give them that credit!"
PostPosted: Sat Dec 27, 2008 4:34 am

He claimed that his adventures were boring but even in his 'modesty' he had said the magic words that piqued the interest of the petite mare that now stood before him. Declarations of youth, competition, rivalry and many other things were subjects that her herd had touched upon while telling her fairy tales and other such stories. The subjects her had spoken of were the stuff of adventures and while he claimed they weren't that interesting they were key to the success of any story - so he may have had children but before that...what had he done?

"Some people like control but my herd tell me that it's an illusion," she cooed gently and drew nearer the stallion. Coming to a halt, she stared up him and shook her head slowly. Content to admire him briefly as he tended to his hair in the most artistic way before continuing with her mini speech. "There can be prior warning to events that may transgress but a sudden shift in decision can stop them completely so spontaneity is often a good thing to have..." she giggled at this and quietly drew away again, reminded all too well of that subject of personal space that so many were intent on informing her about.

...So not everyone liked a snuggle.

"But no tale is too boring to tell," she took a breath and released it again in a deep, yet relaxed manner. A sigh if there ever was one, she seemed to be relaxing more and more in the company of her new and very big friend. "I'd like to hear them, about how you met your friends...about your children -" she tilted her head to the side. Had it been any other mare, less innocent then perhaps it could have been seen as prying. However Puchi meant no harm by her questions and remained ever oblivious to the potential misunderstandings that existed when one touched on such subjects.

"So why not start from the beginning? That's what my mother says everytime I speak too fast for her to understand what I'm saying!" She finished in the most encouraging manner she could mustre which wasn't really that much different from her general manner of addressal!

He wanted to announce to or rather, agree to the mare's speech, but instead he allowed her to talk some more since he enjoyed listening to her strong logic. It was easy for him to listen because he agreed of course! So for him there was no reason to butt in. He enjoyed moments where he could just allow his ears some good ol' knowledge and his heart a pleasant conversation. Seriously, some soquili were just awful at communicating.

Though he was surprised at her last comments. She honestly wanted to hear?? He wasn't disgruntled at this, but he was definitely surprised. He shook his shoulders out as he thought, and brought a reminding smile to the situation. "The beginning would be too far back I'd say." he then admitted, while allowing an accompanying chuckle. "But I suppose I'll just answer what you asked, in terms of friends and family. I have three children, though unfortunately I only see one of them constantly. I am thankful to have her and her own children always at my side." Puchi obviously understood the importance of family, so he was happy himself to admit to what family he carried. "Each of my sons are and will always be magnificent. Even though I never see them, I know they are busy creating their own destinies and adventures. And that keeps me happy for them."

He paused then, and adjusted his right hoof. "As for friends... that's another part of the story that can go on for ages. But my best friend started off as a competition in terms of beauty and strength. And before we knew it, we enjoyed the company of competing too much to really care about that sort of thing anymore. And, it just so happens that my daughter and his son have raised their own family together. So I suppose he is as much of my family as well as my best friend." Another pause came after such sentences, and he smiled genuinely as his eyes spaced off.

"... I wonder if that information is sufficient enough?!" another laugh left his lips as he considered what he had passed on to her. "My life is better because of all of the friends and family I have. So my best advice is to always cherish and keep your own family close!" And with those words, he really meant what he had said.
