It was nice to finally put things behind himself. Kai had stopped dwelling on the past - after all there was nothing he could do about that - and started looking forward. Now there was something to look forward to. There were mares to swoon, and love to look for. It was definitely something to be happy about.

Kai pranced through the forest. He was waiting for night so he could go to his spot. The secret place that was just his. Only one mare had found her way there but he'd covered the small path he'd made by mistake. Hopefully no one would find their way to the pond again.

Well, there was one mare he'd take... A smile broadened on his face as he remembered the one mare he'd met recently. She had been beautiful, and the white markings on her front legs had been interesting. That was a mare he wouldn't mind seeing again.

User ImageThere was a small sigh from the black and purple mare. While she was content to be alone and not having to try to be social, it allowed Duskai to dwell on a past she really wouldn't like to. The more she dwelt on it, the more she came to grips with the fact that they had been right, and the more reluctant she was to speak.

The flower that one black stallion had given her was still in her hair. The human who cared for her, Lily, had done a good job of attatching it to the long white strands of mane. She vaguely wondered if she'd see him again, for he was kind and one of the few who would actual talk to her and not yell or scold or laugh. What was his name again...? Kai? It sounded right in her head.

The mare stretched and let out a yawn. Her favorite time to be out, and she was already tired. In a very rare moment, she smiled and giggled to herself at how odd that was. It really was quite odd

It was a great surprise when he stumbled upon the object of his thoughts. Well, not quite a stumble, more of a prance. He paused, one hoof still held high. "Hello, madamoiselle." Kai flashed his most charming smile.

This was unexpected, but not unwelcome. Violet eyes glanced to her mane to spot the white flower still in place. She'd kept it. The smile widened into a grin. "How are you this fine day?"

Duskai jumped and made a sound very much like a sheep bleet. The mare whipped around, her legs taught with a reflex to run. Her gray eyes stared at the black stallion, wide with shock and fear. Gradually, she calmed herself down. She knew this male. Not well, but she knew enough from some interactions that he was kind to her.

Her past came nipping at her brain, telling her that it could all just be a ruse. It could just be a ruse to hurt her again. The mare forced it away for now; Kai was here, and at the very least she needed to greet him.

If she could get her mouth to work right. After a few minutes of working her brain hard, she finally spoke. "H-hel-lo.. Kai. I am... alright... I suppose," she said slowly and with some difficulty. She still wasn't alright with talking so much.

He was still a bit confused by the stuttering but wrote it off as a quirk of hers. Spirits knew he had his own quirks. Like the inability to keep from flirting with a pretty mare. When he found a mare to love that would stop.

"Suppose?" Kai lowered his leg but took a few steps forward. "It's a beautiful day out, the sun is shining, nary a cloud in the sky! Birds are singing for you." That flirtatious grin again. "It's a wonderful day."

Duskai flinched, her eyes tightening. She'd said something wrong again, and got scolded for it. Nothing she said was worth anyone's time. It didn't matter that he was nice... Kai was just like every other mare and stallion she'd come across in her life.

She'd thought things might be different. She'd thought at least someone would see that her words were worth something. She'd thought wrong.

Again.

Duskai only nodded in responce, a half hearted motion as she looked off to one side. Those foals had been right... she was nothing more than an annoyance to the world...

The stallion tilted his head, now confused. "What? Did I say something wrong?" She acted like he was going to yell at her for something. A wave of anger rolled through him. Who had treated her like that for her to flinch at something he'd said.

"Dusk," The anger was hidden as he nudged her shoulder with his nose. "Hey... I'm not going to eat you or anything. I'm only a threat to grass."

The mare nodded again, still not looking at him. "I... know. It's... nothing," she said, hoping he wouldn't press it. It was bad enough that she'd said something wrong in the first place, it was even worse if she had to explain herself to him. Moreover, she could say something that didn't appease with his ears and it would be even worse.

Her tail flicked around, the white strands flying. She wanted to apologize and disappear... and at the same time do nothing but stay where she was. It was weird. She'd never been pulled out of her shell like this before. Duskai wasn't sure if she liked it.

"Well..." He shifted his weight from hoof to hoof. It was like walking on eggshells with her. That wasn't going to stop him though. If there was one thing he inherited from his father besides a silver tongue, it was stubbornness.

"Have you explored this area?" A few more hours and it should start getting to be that time for going to his hideaway. "There are some great spots around here to go to."
PostPosted: Fri Nov 28, 2008 10:18 pm

Duskai shook her head, the white strands of her mane shaking in the movement. "No... I haven't really... explored this area," she replied softly, looking back up at hm. Her gray eyes showed nothing in the way of emotion, aside from some curiousity.

"Do you... want to show... me it, Kai?" asked the mare, trying to not sound bi-polar or flirty. She was genuinely curious as to what the stallion knew about the area. It would be nice to have a tour, she reasoned with herself, if only to find the best places to hide from the world.

The black stallion grinned, happy that she had finally asked him something. "Of course! I would never say no." He headed off into the forest. Counting on her to follow him since she'd asked. "There are some fruit trees in here, and a pretty nice creek."

Maybe... he'd show her his place. Duskai would probably love it. It was so serene and quiet there. He'd wait and see how the day went before he decided on that. "There's a pond for swimming if you know how and a meadow to stretch your legs in."
PostPosted: Fri Nov 28, 2008 10:34 pm

Duskai followed him silently, absorbing as much information as possible about the forest. Fruit trees... Duskai hadn't had fruit in a while. A few apples the human, Lily, had given her, but not a whole lot. As for swimming... Duskai giggled silently. She and swimming did not mix. But running, that was something that did mix.

Kai came to stop under a fruit tree. There were a few still left on the branches, and one or two seemed to still be worth eating. The rest were either on the ground or had been eaten. Soon, the apples and the bright fall leaves would be gone under winters carress. "Want one?" Violet eyes flicked between the mare and a gold and red apple.

He didn't really wait for an answer. Taking a step back and leaping up to grab the apple. Kai landed with a thud and a brief riddle of pain in his legs. Oh, he was getting a bit old for that.

The apple was offered to his companion.

Duskai blushed lighlty at the jesture, but took the apple anyway. It was odd. She felt safe with Kai, even though she really didn't know him. He was very kind to her, and that surprised her. Her mind still set up a mental wall around herself, protecting her in case things ended badly.

"Thank you, Kai," she said, having finished the apple off.

A nicker answered her. He didn't mind at all. "There are more trees around here besides this one." Kai nodded to a few bare trees. "Those are more apple, and I think there's a pear tree around and some berry bushes."

"Do you want to see the pond or the meadow next?"
