Rules

Sadly, we need them.
- Above all else, DO NOT STEAL THE LINEART. This WILL get you banned AND reported to a Gaia mod!
- All regular shop rules apply here!
- Do NOT whine if you do not hear from us! This is mostly going to be used as a resource for when we need people.
- That being said, DO update your post with new examples!
- Just because you colored a beta here, that does NOT mean we will cert it. *Maybe* if you're hired, but generally, no.
- Once submitted, these colorings become property of teh Beta Aquarium. However, if we do use them, you will be informed and paid.

Regulations

- Please, flat-color the fish. We have beautiful shading templates, no need to fix something that isn't broken.
- You must have a program that can open .psd files. This is what all beta files use, from the cert to the crazy evolve templates. Photoshop is prefered.
- Have an e-mail and preferably an AIM account so we are able to easily contact you and send you files. (This will only be asked for if we would like you to guest color).
- Color as many as you like, but please not hundreds, and please variety.
- Please avoid just plastering a brush on the beta.* Everyone can do that. We want to see how well you can apply and use color more than the pretty brushes you downloaded.
--- * Try to make your own patterns/designs; you will have a better chance of being hired if you do/can.
- If you can, do edit! Edits are epically loved! DO shade your own edits, since you would be required to do so if hired.**
--- ** If you would rather put items on an evolve rather than the adult fish provided, you may use one of the regular evolve form examples on the front page. Do NOT use the SE samples OR clownfish samples OR one of your evolved betas OR someone else's evolved beta.
- You may submit your own original evolve lineart if you wish, we'd love to see it.
- You may submit chibi beta lineart (similar to the staff babies) if you wish and think you would enjoy doing staff breedings. Please use the Shop Mule and the current Staff as the "parents" for your chibi betas; don't make random original betas, do an actual practice breeding!
- Guest colorists are paid 50% of what they make from the raffle. Deal with it.
- If hired, don't flake on us half way through a raffle or whatever we ask you to do.
- Remember, the best way to becoming a full-time staffer is through guest coloring! That's how Rave, Kisha, Ryn, and Djnn got hired!

The Lineart!


This is the lineart you will be working with for the most part. Remember, flat color unless you're adding items (only the items need to be shaded).

Frequently Asked Questions!

Question: If you're not planning on hiring anyone anytime soon, why are you doing this?
Answer: So when we do want to hire someone, we have somewhere to start looking. Plus, the staff can only handle so many "Can I color for you?" PMs. We're flattered, really, but this is just easier.

Question: Why haven't I heard from you? QQ
Answer: Well, two options. One, we didn't like your coloring enough to ask you to do something *hides.* Or the other, better, possibility is we weren't looking for anyone when you put in your application. Remember to keep updating with newer samples so when we are ready to hire, we know what you're doing now and not what you did months ago!

Question: Only 50%, seriously?
Answer: Yeah, seriously. That's what all guest colorists are paid. Full-timers are paid more, but that won't be discussed here.

Question: Can I have the beta I colored? Pllleeeaaassseee???!???!//!?/!!!111??
Answer: No.

Question: Why Photoshop?! I have something else/don't like it/can't afford it!
Answer: Having Photoshop will give you the absolute best chance of compatability with our files, since that is what the staff uses. However, there are many other programs, both for purchase and free, that DO support layers and PSD files. To name just a few: For purchase - Paint Shop Pro, OpenCanvas, Corel Painter, ArtRage (Full Version); For free - Artweaver, the GIMP, Paint.net. Yay pretty fishies. The tail/backfin edit is based on the real variety of betta called the Half-Moon. I will probably add some other beta samples here.
