Ooooh... but it'd been horribly amusing to watch his expression once they'd arrived. Kenna could not recall having been this amused or entertain in... well, ever, really. Nothing ever really amused her, and no one ever really spent enough time around her to drag a chuckle out of her. Yet here he was, and he'd managed what others had not during their trip. And here she was, still amused once the male realised whom she was and what she was around these lands.
Upon entering the lands, the few guards that had been around had bowed their heads in respect, and when Ji had asked her what the hell they were doing, Kenna had blown his words off. It had continued of course, for the deeper they went, the more blunt the greetings of her title came, till it'd dawned upon him once they'd reached Ripuka. She'd been sure that he'd been talking the truth (the named had rung a bell after all), and now that the matter was settled and he was within the land with a 'visa', per say, Kenna had time to smirk to herself.
His reaction had been priceless, even if he'd not yet addressed her over it (they'd been busy talking to Ripuka at the time and Kenna had made sure to slip away before he was done). Now, she was back to patrolling her lands, padding the sands, checking every crook and corner of the dens to make sure everything was as it was meant to be... that nothing had been touched during her small, couple of days absence. There was no sign of her slave in her den, and no sign of her lazy-bum brother, which meant he was probably using Zap again. Kenna rolled her before stretching herself out; she'd finally placed her jewellery back upon her form, happy to be back to normal. Then she took the time to pick out a well situated rock and lay herself down on it so she could rest and sunbathe. She had no doubt Ji would come seeking her out shortly, and loudly, really, for it was likely not in his nature to change his attitude towards her just because he'd learnt about her rank.
That was probably what Kenna 'liked' about him. And she was using the term here pretty loosely, for she was not particularly used to liking much of anything at all, let alone anyone.

Oh, had he ever been surprised. The way Kenna had been speaking, Jiryan had honestly expected this Ripuka lioness to the queen. After all, it seemed imperative that her final say in the matter decided his fate. Who else but a queen would get to decide that? But no, upon entering the lands he had learned that the queen was none other than his traveling companion and that Ripuka's word had simply been to actually prove what Kenna had thought was true. When he first realized it, his face was no doubt struck into a dumbfound expression, and he hadn't missed the smirk on Kenna's mug.
He had had no chance to confront her about it, either. As soon as he had come upon the realization, they were speaking to the old lioness, and he had had no time to ask her about anything. Then, as soon as that conversation was done, she had slipped away to do who knew what (he had no idea what a king or queen did) and he was left alone, in a strange and rather hostile pride, wondering how or why she hadn't bothered to tell him that she just happened to be queen. He had expected to come here and have to face the trial of convincing the regent that he was fit to remain and there she was, in all her terrible glory, smirking away because she probably already knew most of who he was in and out. They had traveled together, and traveling companions usually knew the best and worst, even in a short time.
It was a while past, now, and he was stalking through the lands (a little hesitant, mind you, because he didn't honestly know what was right and wrong here or what might get him in trouble) looking for her. Despite being queen, Kenna was still Kenna to him and he had no doubt that if she had wanted him to act differently to her because she was queen, she would have told him what she was from the beginning. That didn't mean he shouldn't observe some kind of respect for her here - who knew what these lions might think if they saw him acting like himself around her? He really wished he knew what was acceptable here. He had a hundred questions teeming in his head, but the big problem at that moment was actually finding her.
It took some time, but he finally located her, sprawled out and now sporting some kind of jewelry. He had no doubt that it meant something, but even then, he didn't seem to see her any differently. She was probably commanding enough to him without them and he had grown accustomed to that. "You think it's funny," he said, once he was in hearing distance, watching her from where he stood. There was no greeting, but he didn't feel like he needed one particularly.

She heard him come and knew he was there even before he took the chance to speak. Deliberately, the lioness rolled over so that she could see him, her head remaining happily accommodated over her front paws; the fact the rock towered a distance off the ground made it so that she was facing him head to head, even despite her laying position. The smirk that distinguished her from others grew upon her maw then, the long cuts that adorned her skin making it all the more eerie, "******** hilarious, actually," she told him rather matter-of-factly, "Haven't had this much fun in..." she paused, as if making a show of pondering, "Ever, really."
Having rolled over was enough an invitation for him to near her as she needed to extend; the desert at night got pretty damned cold and they'd been travelling for a couple of days or more. While it was true Kenna wouldn't have seeked out the commodity of sharing body heat and it wouldn't have been needed, if it was there for the taking, she wasn't about to deny herself the pleasure of good sleep. So thus, needless to say, they'd actually spent a lot of time together. A lot of rather close time together. It was something she wasn't particularly used to for while she spelt with her litter mates... since Azula had gone missing, she'd not really had any real 'contact' with them.
"So," she drawled out as she pushed herself into a sitting position, "You got your visa, big guy. What're you gonna do now? S'clear your daddy ain't here. I'd know him by name if he were," a pause as she twitched an ear, her red eyes narrowing as she leered the horizon, "Then again, if that brat of a seer sister you talk of is really as good as you think she then that might mean he's with them," a nod was offered towards the distance as she arched a brow. It was clear she didn't deem the place in question important enough to name, "You might wanna head that way. If you made it through Safi, you can make it through Simo. They're the bark. We're the bite."
Letting the information sink in, she talked down from her chosen rock and back down on the ground, "Mmmm?" the sound was a long, drawn out query, as if she were repeating her previous question; what WAS he going to do now? "You're firekin," she told him, "Albeit.... a pretty god damned strange one. Damned weird upbringing, but still of the kin," specially seeing as how half the firekin within the pride had diluted blood (not that they knew it, but Kenna did, and that made all the difference), "You're in, for the time being. What're you gonna do with all this? Gonna leave? Gonna stay? Questions, questions."

Despite the fact that she thought it was a damn good joke, he couldn't find the heart to be mad at her. He simply smirked, narrowed his eyes, and shook his head a bit after that. He had a good heart for jokes, as he was used to playing dirty tricks on his siblings all the time. "Fine, but it would have been a little nicer if you had told me," he said, though he didn't really expect an answer. In all honesty, she didn't really seem like the type to be nice just to spare his feelings, and he really wasn't that sore.
At her rolling over, he stalked closer, sitting down with his back against the rock until he simply relaxed into a comfortable laying position. He didn't particularly feel like standing and he had grown accustomed to her company by now. "Well, who knows if he's even here yet?" he frowned at this, flicking his tail, "Kat sees things far in the future sometimes and doesn't always know exactly when. It might take him months to get here, or a year." He shrugged his shoulders a little. To him, there was no reason to be quick about it. Who knew, his dad could still show up here, he might just be a little ahead of schedule himself.
"Well, I don't know how long this visa lasts, but since you've graciously decided that I'm an odd but good enough firekin, I don't know, would it be alright with you if I stayed?" He turned to look up at her with his bright eyes as she came down, concentrating on her for a moment. "I don't know that I'll get the same warm welcome there that I did from the queen here," he said with a smirk, as if it were a joke. It was true, though. She was as close to a friend as he could claim in these lands and he didn't want to run off to the other pride (as he had just learned, in fact, that they were split) in case his father did end up showing up in these lands after all. He wasn't sure Kenna would take him back if he went to the other side, only to find out Vulcan had come here after he had left.

A snort was released as he spoke of nice; in fact, the large female did not even bother to hide the way she rolled her eyes, "Nice, he says," another snort, as if the mere idea is just hilarious to her, all in all, "Maybe, but it wouldn't have been half as hilarious, don't you think? Yeah, s'what I thought," oh, she knew he wasn't upset. After all, if she'd learnt something during the trip back into the Firekin lands, it was that he had a rather interesting sense of humour. Different from what she was used to, at least.
"Hmmm..." the sound rumbled deep within her as she pondered his words. To others watching her, it might've looked as if she were mocking him, but to anyone that had bothered to spend more than a few hours in her company could noticed she was in fact, deep in through, "You trust your sister's vision rather blindly. Is there not the possibility that she might've been wrong? Wouldn't be the first time I've seen a seer go wrong," a pause as she turned to face him, grinning, "Y'know, my personal slave's a seer. Pretty strange one, but i know they can be wrong," after a pause, Kenna frowned, "I should probably go fetch him. Finar-si only knows what my dumbass brother has been doing with him in my absence. Lazy bum that he is, he's probably making him hunt for him," reaching up to rub her temple with her clawed paw, the queen shook her head.
There were times when she wondered about Sinbad. She really, really did.
Her turned back towards him, her paw waving in the air, a mild growl directed at the world around her rumbling in her chest, "That Visa is permanent. You're a full blooded firekin, as far as anyone here in concerned because I am vouching for you, just as Ripuka vouched for Danzi," oh, she wasn't dumb. She really, really wasn't dumb at all and had suspected from the start; oh, she couldn't verify her suspicions, not really, but that didn't mean she didn't know better, "It is my word against theirs, and if they know what's good for them, they'll not even so much as look at you wrong. You are full blooded as far as the pride's concerned. You may stay as long as you wish," a snort again, "So long you do your part of the work and maintain the right type of attitude, but then again.... you can't do worse than my own brother is doing. You're strong, you're reliable, you're the right colors.... and though you're sort of strange, so am I, I guess."
The smirk returned at the joke he made, "You proved to me you were more firekin back there, during our travels, than half the lazy bums this bloody pride has. If you think your daddy dear'll show up, you're free to wait."

He simply smirked at her words, looking quit bemused. He didn't know if anyone else in the pride looked at her that way, or talked to her the way he did, but he was comfortable with it. He didn't know if would unsettle others or not, but he had a feeling that they'd just end up accepting whatever Kenna told them to - she didn't seem to be the sort that accepted much nonsense. Thus, he simply lay there with his back against the rock, watching her with bright eyes as she stalked back and forth in front of him.
"Well, this is the best lead I have on where my father's gone," he said with a small shrug. His eyes rested on her, taking in her facial expression, reading it for what it was. "She could be wrong, sure, but I've never known Kat to be wrong before. There's always a first time for everything, though. But really, what's the worst that's happened if she is wrong?" He smirked and glanced around the pride, flicking his tail a bit. He had never in his wildest dreams actually thought he'd get to see the pride his father had spoken to him about when he was a cub, even if it wasn't quite as his father had said it was - at least not anymore. "I came to the land of my father, got accepted into a pride that rarely admits anyone from beyond its borders, and met a nice queen who was willing to vouch for me." The last bit made him chuckle, the joke making his eyes dance with mirth even as he looked up at her. Oh, but it amused him to give her compliments on her 'charming demeanor'.
He had wondered about this 'slave' thing since he got here, but the concept itself wasn't new to him. He knew it happened, but he had never actually seen one, nor did he actually know what being a slave meant. He was more than a little curious what it was like, as he knew he had walked a fine line between becoming a slave and becoming a firekin when he breached the borders, even with Kenna at his side. "Why don't you just tell your brother to stop using him if it irritates you so much?" he asked, quirking a brow at her. He didn't know what else to say on the subject, as he was unfamiliar with it. He also wasn't sure how he felt about it all, but it was best not to mock the crocodile ferrying you across the river.
"Permanent," he muttered to himself, under his breath, as he pushed himself up into a sitting position a bit. He knew that he wasn't a full blooded firekin, and so did Kenna. From what little he had gathered from those around him, this was supposedly the traditional pride, which left him with questions. Why was she vouching for him - why tell others he was pure blooded? "I have no doubt that I can live up to what you expect me to and I surely won't slack on doing my part. I grew up with six brothers and sisters, so team work isn't a new concept." However, at this point, he frowned as he watched her, his eyes looking at hers as if he might dig the answer out of them. "Why would you vouch for me though? You called me a mudblood, in the beginning, why would you have me here now?" If this were any other pride, he would have suspected it was simply because of his aid, but he didn't think that would even sway Kenna (or many firekin) to this. It wasn't accusing, his tone, but simply curious - he wanted to know.
"You're doing it for a reason, I think, and I wouldn't leave this side just to search for my father on the other. I was looking for him, but I have more honor than that." He shrugged his shoulders, but continued watching her. He wanted an answer, clearly.

"What's got you so worked up about finding your father anyhow?" that was something she did not really understand; granted, he was his father and thus connected by blood. However, Kenna was soon enough finding that blood was not that much thicker than water, if you asked her, "I know he's your father and all, but tell you truth, I've had mine here all my life and he's been a downright jerk - he treated us like soldiers and never really loved us. I was never bothered, but my sister, Azula, always took it harshly. She was a daddy's girl. Wonder where the hell she ran off to. Probably upset our old man and mother are having another litter."
The last of her words were mostly mused out loud, as if she were pondering while talking. It was rather interesting that the queen was allowing herself to do such a think in the presence of another, but she'd come to notice that either Ji wasn't entirely too bright or he really couldn't have cared less to try and use info provided like that in order to harm someone, "There's many lions that never knew their fathers and they shaped up pretty well. What has you so obsessed so as to come all the way here, risking your life and your freedom?" if anything, she was interested in the answer to that; she knew well enough that it was passion what drove others to really push themselves. Maybe that was why the firekin were so down in the dumps; they lacked the passion they'd originally held... a passion that the rebels now held and had displayed throughout the rebellion.
Such was life.
A snort resonated as he spoke again, "Nice, my a**; you got me on one of my nice days. You don't want to see me on one of my bad ones," then again, maybe it was true. After all, she'd never been one to blinding attack others when it did not suit her. Hell, her slave was easily the luckiest brat in the pride, for not only did no one dare touch him the wrong way, but he was groomed and taken care of. Kenna had always believed that happy, devoted slave worked better than one that was a upset and could barely move. Then again, she was starting to notice she was likely one of the smartest ones in the pride, even with her obvious mental issues, "You're lucky I wasn't one of the idiot ones that sees it fit to lash out first, mangle and then ask questions," another snort was released at this point, "There's no point in mangling unless it gets you something in return. I wish... I had been born during the glory days of this pride. I feel it lacks it's fire... a pride without fire, without passion, can not be called firekin. What will Finar-si think of us now?"
Shaking her head, the queen looked at him, "I am not keen on facing him. That slave was a present to me when I was still a cub. I've kept him since. He's without a doubt, the luckiest slave in this pride. I'm worried they'll break him," while it was clear she deemed Zap as 'inferior', she treated him like she would have a pet, "I can't let him near the others. The others are quite brutish and I have a bit of a problem that you might have noticed," a grimace was offered at this point as she made hint of her OCD. He shifted the conversation away from that topic though and offered forth a question that Kenna did not hesitate to answer, "Because you amuse me," she drawled, "You've drawn out more chuckles and more smirks out of me than anyone in this god forsaken place. You have spunk and you're brave. You're interesting and amusing. And simply... because I can," it was all voiced with a smirk.

"Well, maybe that's the difference?" he said with a small tilt of his head, watching her from where he sat. With his back against the rock, a shadow was thrown over his form, letting him have a small reprieve from the somewhat overbearing sun of the desert. He wasn't all that used to it quite yet. "My father, my real father, wasn't around so much when I was younger. He visited, told us grand stories about all sorts of things, but he never stayed." He shrugged his shoulders a little as he leaned his head back against the rock, his white mane falling into his eyes a bit. "I came to look for him because I've always wanted to know him better than I did, and because I looked up to him, but maybe it was just a cub's fantasy? Who knows?" His maw twitched into a smirk then, eyes narrowing back on her again.
"I wouldn't be me if I just sat back at home with my mother, waiting for him to come home the next time. Risking my life and my freedom sounds much more interesting," he chuckled at the thought and closed his eyes for a minute, trying to imagine what his father might say should he ever meet him and relay the story. He was positive he would though - Kat had said they would meet in the Firekin lands, just not when, or how exactly.
"I don't know, you really don't seem that bad to me," his eyes popped open, first one and then the other, to look at her. Oh, he knew what she meant, but he had a joking nature that he really couldn't ignore. He shifted until he could push himself back up onto his feet, moving away from the rock to stand next to her. "I think I could have run away if I saw a big, red angry lion coming in my direction," he noted with a shrug, "but maybe you're right and I was just lucky." He chuckled a bit as he turned his head to look at her, listening to her speak. Were things really that terrible on this side? "You're passionate enough for a hundred Firekin," he shook his head as he said it, turning to look out at the horizon, "and you're the queen. Put the passion back, Kenna, it can't be but so hard?"
"I see," he muttered as she spoke of her slave, though he had to admit that in the grand scheme of things, he knew very little about it. He was glad when the subject changed, so he didn't have to talk anymore. It wasn't that he was judging her for it, or the pride, just that he simply didn't understand a lot of what she was babbling about. He'd never dealt with slaves. "I amuse you?" he laughed at this and turned his bright eyes to look at her again. "Well, I guess if that's what it takes to stay on your good side, I'll just continue to be a good little jester." He smirked at that and batted his tail behind him, turning to walk in a half circle around her. Part of him wondered if she was that lonely that she would seek out a half rogue for company, or if she really had frightened off the majority of the pride with her attitude. It caused a slightly thoughtful look to appear on his face, and he looked away as he realized it, not wanting to have to open that uncomfortable bag of worms.

"A difference, you say..." she pondered his words quietly, then turned to shake her head, "Perhaps," however, it was clear that she did not understand this, mostly because she had grown up in a different culture, with a different set of parents. Her mother and father had never loved each other, but rather, had an 'agreement' to produce offspring that were pure blooded for the pride's well being. Love and caring was not something she'd been taught and while she did know the meaning of care, she had never really loved; not her parents, not her siblings, not anyone. She cared for them, but it was not love, "Maybe you're right," she drawled, "Or maybe you're a fool. But at least you're fool that's doing what he wants to do," smirking down at him, Kenna peeked over the rim of the rock, "At the end of the day, maybe that makes you smarter."
Her head came to rest over her crossed paws again, her tongue clicking over her teeth as he spoke, "That's a sweet thing to say, but no. I'm growing old too. I have no mate, no offspring, and there's no one in the pride I'm unrelated to that I can take for mate," her eyes closed as she continue, "This pride is dieing, and we're clinging to it," again she tsked her tongue, "My brother said that we should take it 'one step at a time', but my brother's an idiot. There's no more steps to take, Ji. There's no more unrelated lions, and when the present cubs grow up, they will only be able to mate cousins.... we're dead, Ji. We're strong, we're ruthless, we're passionate, and we're heading towards the end of an era," while she would have loved to be able to see the glorious future her brother spoke of, she could not. It was simply not there, and 'one step at a time' was not going to change that; they would stumble into their deaths, "I might be passionate enough for a hundred firekin, but I can't put the passion back into a pride that's dieing. Maybe that's what the rebels saw. Maybe that's what they saw that we did not. I don't know, and honestly, I'm too much of an a** to admit that to them and go check. I'm too prideful to go find out."
She was not above admitting to her faults; had never been. She knew her good points and knew her bad ones, and had no problem admitting to them, "Traditionalist values say rogues are merely filth. Mudbloods. Our law does not even allow for the consideration of admitting them in our pride, and so we've pretty much condemned ourselves," a snort, "Ironic, our 'pureblood' will perish in it's rightfulness. Fitting, if I do say so myself," half of her was beginning to see what the rebels might have seen, and half of her clung to the old values with teeth and claws; her own pride would not allow her to let go of them entirely. She'd turned inwardly and thus, had missed the way he'd looked at her. By the time the queen turned to look up, it had vanished, "Oh, you can stop being a jester any time now. You're in now," the dark chuckle rumbled her throat, "And I'd love to see if anyone would challenge that. Hell, might spice things up and toss some excitement here. Wouldn't be against that," if anything, it was clear Kenna was a lioness that valued her entertainment. Even if said 'entertainment' was a 'fight'.

"Maybe it does, or maybe it doesn't," he said as he peered back up at her over the rim of the rock, but he simply smiled that knowing little smile of his. He had loved; he loved his parents, he loved his siblings, and he had even had his own little crushes here and there. His life had been filled with love, but he somehow figured that hers had not and that was where the difficulties lie in there communication. There culture was, in fact, very, very different.
He quirked his brow a bit at her bit about mates and cubs, a teasing smile on his maw. "You aren't related to me," he said simply, then, with one calculated measure, leapt up onto the rock beside her. With a smirk, he settled himself down at her side, unperturbed by how close he was to her. After all, they'd been much closer in the night's in the desert when the cold chill swept through. "Well, if you're headed to an end, maybe your brother is right. Take it one step at a time, hold out, and pray that your.. goddess guides you." He thought over what he remembered, the very little he did, about their ideas, and remembered the bits about Finar-si. "She wouldn't leave you, the pride, here to wither and die, would she?" It was an attempt at comfort, because in his land that's what one did - though he knew here it was probably a foreign gesture.
"That is rather amusing, in a twisted way. I can see where you get your sense of humor," he remarked with a low chuckle, laying his head down on his paws in a fashion not unlike hers. It was her next comment, however, that made his ears perk a little and made him raise his head again. "I like being a jester, that's just my nature, though no offense, I'm not really that enthused about taking on any of your relatives here just for the sake of amusement." He made a slightly sour face and turned his gaze away.

A snort resounded through her nose as he spoke, but there was no disdain within the lioness, "My brother wants to build an empire. He claims that taking it one step at a time is all good and dandy, to let the kids handle the problem when the time comes," her eyes narrowed then, "How fair is that? It's our problem to deal with, not theirs. It's our mistakes, not theirs," she did not bother to move an inch as he leaped up to join her; she'd long since gotten used to his presence, and even to contact with him, which was rare for such a strange soul such as Kenna. She rarely permitted anyone other than Azula to lay pressed up against her. And now, Azula was gone, and here was this male, whom had been hearing her rattle on for what seemed like ages about her problems without so much as a blink of an eye. He seemed to accept her problems for what they were and gave input when allowed to.
Arching a brow, the queen watched as he settled himself against her, "Indeed we aren't," there was a pause though and her eyes travelled off towards the desert sands, her lips pulling into a mild snarl; in all honesty, she'd thought of that before, but she didn't want to end up like her parents had, "I don't want an agreement like my old folks had. I don't think I've ever seen them happy. Not once. I don't want to live their lives. Their lives are theirs to live," comfort wasn't a foreign gesture; not really. It was simply foreign within her own family. The weak died and strong prevailed; being hurt emotionally was not something she'd permitted herself to be, but seeing as how he was offering a shoulder to lean on, she was glad to take it while no one could see, "Everything is Finar-si's will. If we are like this, it is Her will. If we are dieing, we must've done something wrong," her head shook mildly before red hued eyes turned upon him, "The 'new' firekin, they call themselves... we're the 'true' firekin'. Isn't it ironic? I find it almost hilarious, in a way. I think others might look at me like I'm crazy if I tell them I find dark humour in this situation," a paw moved then, as if to wave her own words away, "We need new blood, Ji, but we're not ready to take it. No new blood, and we die. If we take new blood, we will simply become the rebels. There's a whole lot of contradictions, and all I can see is that maybe... just maybe, we made a big mistake in our righteousness."
She'd been half way ready to close her eyes when he spoke, "I'd like to see them so much as try to open their mouths. I can assure you they won't even try. And if they do, they can very well take leadership from me; they can try to deal with the problems of the damned pride themselves," she blew out a long breath through her nose and mouth; it almost resembled a sigh, as if she were tired, albeit not physically. Then, mostly out of habit, she turned to face him and curled up against his familiar form, her eyes closed, "I don't know. I can see what Ripuka saw in Danzi. Even if he is 'just' a rogue. Maybe it's not about blood. Maybe it's something else."

"Well, just because he's your relative doesn't make him smart," he said lowly, brows furrowing as he tried to see the reasoning behind the fellow's thinking. If there was one think he knew from spending time with Kenna, though, it was that firekin thinking differed greatly from Pridelander thinking. He simply shrugged though, because he honestly didn't have much else to offer on that topic. No, he didn't think it was fair, but he didn't know a solution either.
"Well, we aren't your folks," he said with a snort, "I already amuse you, don't I?" There was amusement there, in his eyes, as he said it. He was poking at her, teasing, though being as daring about it as he thought he could. She was still dangerous beneath it all, he knew. Her next words sobered him a little and he nodded, staring out at the distance again. "I've not been here, so I have no idea if what you did was wrong or right, but I suppose that's true. She will do what she wills." It was odd to hear someone speak of their matron goddess thus - most prides with religion thought they would never let harm come to them and so on. The Firekin, and Kenna more importantly, continued to surprise him. "The future will bring what it brings, hm?"
"Ah, well, it's good to know you won't tolerate them being bullies to me," he chuckled out, turning his gaze to look down at her. He knew what she meant, but as he had already stated, joking was his nature. He shifted as she curled up against him, leaning his head down against the top of hers, so that he was more comfortable against her. "Something else?" he asked, softly, though he could still feel the rumble of his own words against the top of her skull.

"No," she voiced as she snorted, "No it doesn't. He's never been the brightest star in the heavens. Egoistical, lazy and self centered," then again, that sort of described a lot of lions in the pride, minus the lazy bit. It sort of described Kenna too; it was all about upbringing, she guessed. For now, she was willing to let that part of the conversation die. After all, she had no input on it and had no solution, "Time will tell," though she had the sneaking suspicion that what time would tell would be much more grim than most of the Firekin hoped.
Her eyes opened to trail over to him, her brows arching, "We're not my folks," there was the hint of a smirk on her maw, but it was different, almost as if she wasn't sure if she should be amused or if she should be taking this seriously. She opted for middle ground, and blunt as always, addressed the issue at hand, "Okaaaaaay... you're coming off as... do you want to mate me? Are you suffering from a crush, or are you just offering a helping paw here? I'm lost," and for once she didn't quite mind voicing this, "I don't want a helping paw. I don't need that."
What she might have needed was left hanging in the air, unvoiced. But then again, Kenna didn't quite know what it was she needed, or wanted, herself, so this it was a bit of a moot point, "I eat bullies for breakfast," she murmured under her breath as an afterthought; it was liable to be true, too, "Mmmmhmmm something else," she left it at that.

He was more than happy to let that bit of the conversation die, as he was sure it was going to start bringing up some rather uncomfortable realizations if he didn't. He didn't want to remind her of her brother or the fate of the pride, because that only served as a bitter reminder of what condition the pride was in at that moment and how little help the members were being or even could be if they tried. However, letting that die brought him face to face with a talk that was just as hard to face, and this because it had to deal with him.
"I don't know? What if it's both?" he smirked at that, though at this point it was partially to cover up the twisting feeling he was getting.. in his general emotional area. This seemed like dangerous ground to be treading on for a number of reasons. One, his father had always seemed like the sort to make a point of not getting tied down. Two, this was Kenna. Three, he was in a strange land and was subject to attaching himself to one of the only things he had grown accustomed to and familiar with. Four, this was Kenna. "I enjoy you, as hard as that may be to believe, and you're the only thing I know in a strange place, so to speak" he shrugged at his, but furrowed his brow. "I dunno, would it bother you terribly if things went that way?" He rolled his eyes to look at her, curled up against him. She wasn't what he would have ever pictured for himself, but here she was, queen of one of the most feared prides in existence, leaning on him and telling him her woes.
"You probably do, it wouldn't surprise me at all," he muttered, laughing softly beneath his breath at her declaration. He didn't press her for 'what else', but let her leave it where it was.

For the first time in her life, the lioness backpedaled to look over what she'd said and what he'd answered, as if the whole thing didn't quote click in her mind, "Wait," she said, finally lifting her head from under him, taking care not to hurt either of them by jerking too hard, "Both? As in you want to mate and you have a crush on me, or....?" she seemed honestly at a loss for words. Then again, no one here had bothered to even look at her like she was a female, in the breeding sense. She tended to be so dominant that she rarely made it obvious; in fact, Kenna was sure the only one that ever realised she was female was Zap, and gods, that thought was actually pretty pathetic, now that she pondered on it and she should probably be rather ashamed. Or would have been ashamed, had her pride and ego allowed her to be.
The queen blinked at him, and in that rare moment, her features smoothed out to make her look almost feminine in her confusion, as if she really couldn't begin to comprehend that it was HER having this conversation. I passed soon enough, but it did leave her eyes with less of a sharp look; as if she'd lost the 'edge', per say, "I..." she shut her mouth, and decided that today was probably the first day in her life where she'd felt out of words and out of territory she knew, "No," she found herself saying, "No really. I wouldn't."
There was no need to ask if he would have mind, for after all, it was him whom had opened that particular can of worms for her to look at. Instead, the lioness decided that this was obviously not something she had to ponder out, and thus lay her head back down on the ground, allowing herself to lean against him. She decided that it was past time for words, and that perhaps it was time to feel things out.
