Carol flipped through her phone book looking for Naomi's number. Although she was once again calling the woman to inquire about Kaimi this time she wasn't planning to schedule a playdate, today she wanted to know about the girl's origins.

Finding it the woman swiftly dialed the number and waited for an answer.

"Hello?" Naomi answered the phone pleasantly. She had stew in the crockpot. Kaimi was at school. Mara was outside taking her fury out in the yard. It was a good day.

" Naomi it's Carol, this may sound weird but do you remember what Kaimi's cabbage was like? Bishop found this rather strange one in our storeroom today and I'm not sure but it just doesn't seem normal." Carol was babbling but what else could she do at a time like this?

Naomi blinked a bit at the question. "Well... Kaimi's cabbage was really big. Bigger than a normal cabbage..." She thought for a moments, trying to remember. "And it... this is going to sound really weird. It seemed almost sentient. Like it would be really upset if you tried to eat it or something. I have the phone number and address of the place I got her from. Would you like it?"

" Well I haven't sensed any sentience as of yet but this one's certainly bigger than normal. I'd love any information you can give me that might help in determining if this is just a really big kind of hard cabbage or something that might become a kid." What kind of kid came from a cabbage? Well besides Kaimi? Did that mean they were all plant like?

"Well, lets see. I got Kaimi from a place called the Liberty Center. I applied for adoption and they gave me a cabbage." Naomi snorted a bit at how ridiculous it sounded. "She goes to school there... most of the kids there come from cabbages too from what I'm led to believe." Naomi tried to think of anything relevant. "It was just this weird giant vegetable that I watered and put in the sunshine. It smelled funny, like the way Kaimi smells sometimes. And then one day the cabbage just kind of... opened up. And there she was." Naomi wasn't sure if the story was helping Carol, but she hoped she could ease the other woman's mind at least a little.

" Weird I certainly did not apply for any babies." Carol replied fidgeting with her hair as she talked. " Still I'll keep an eye on it and let you know if anything comes of it' She assured the other woman "Hmm liberty center i remember flyers for that place around the park where we first met you and Kaimi." Carol wondered if perhaps she'd accidentally be in a private park for the organization.

"Keep me updated definitely." Naomi said. "And I'd call the liberty center too. They'd probably be able to tell you for sure if it's one of their cabbages. "

" Alright thanks for all this help, it's a bit startling to find a cabbage randomly is all. I'll talk to you soon." Carol gave the other woman time to say goodbye before hanging up and taking a deep breath. She wasn't any closer to being sure about the origins of her mystery cabbage but at least she now had a way to learn for sure if it was indeed carrying life inside it.

Although if there was a child inside who did it belong too? Surely no one had left it there on purpose, after all only store employees and accompanied delivery men were allowed into the store room. None of her employee's were planning families so far as she knew and she hadn't had a delivery since the night before. surely the person would have noticed their missing Cabbage before now and called to retrieve it.

Now that meant either it had been abandoned which was possible, someone could have changed their mind and decided they didn't want the burden of a child. Or that someone felt she ought to have this cabbage in which case she wanted to know who, they they'd chosen the store room and why they'd chosen her at all?

Carol loved Bishop dearly and she'd adjusted fairly well to parenthood. Andrea had been a surprise but was a welcome addition to the family, really Carol couldn't have let her go back into foster care ; not when it seemed to be sucking away the spirit that seemed to be shining through more and more of the girl each day.

Carol wasn't adverse to another child, though it mean she'd have to convert her office into a room for the new child and move all her things into the living room. Not a horrible compromise for the sake of another person but not something that could be done overnight either. She'd need help to move the heavy cabinets and to dis and re assemble her desk.

Still, questions plagued her and while she wanted to get right on calling this Liberty centre place the first thing she was going to do was check her security camera footage. That should tell her who'd broken in to leave the cabbage behind the night before.

Twenty minutes later she was just plain confused. Her tapes were fine, and had recorded a local boy making off with a free pop while her back had been turned. What they hadn't done however was show her anyone breaking into the store room or leaving the store after hours.

With Joey having come in for his shift, and out right denying having left the cabbage there, Carol was free to head back into the house to check on the girls and her cabbage. Hopefully Bishop hadn't over watered it or anything that might make a sentient cabbage upset.

As soon as she walked into the door Carol heard the sound of feet thundering towards her and two wide eyed breathless girls were soon standing before her as she struggled to get her shoes off.

" Mom it's likes water at least I think," Bishop exclaimed" It glowed sort of when I sprayed it." The amber eyed girl's headwings twitched in her excitement and Bishop hadn't looked this happy since Carol had said Andrea could live with them. Even if it wasn't a life bearing cabbage and things seemed to point out that it was at this point it was certainly a special cabbage and it was entertaining the girls.

" It likes the dark too" Andrea offered" but it looks prettier in the sunshine, it glows more, so we left the blinds open a little so it's light and dark."

Carol nodded and smiled " Interesting. Girls I need to make a phone call, you go watch the cabbage and let me know if it does anything weird." Apparently she couldn't hold off calling the Liberty centre any longer.
