Trickling laughter from the partially frozen river held a warning edge as the pale mare stood upon the bank. Slowly a brown hoof rose and come down upon the ice gently. A pause before she slowly added a bit of pressure, second by second as the scale tipped towards her full weight though always hesitantly. Right before she had her total mass upon that one hoof, the natural glass shattered, limb slipping through the hole and just scratching the top of the frigged waters before being pulled back abruptly and placed safely back on dry land.

Bella sighed, shaking her head. Every few meters along the river's edge were similar holes in the ice's surface, each a test conducted by the same mare as she searched for the best means of crossing the water. Of course the rocks the filly had used to cross were long since covered by ice, making them useless to the full grown female. Normally she wouldn't care about trying to access the stretch of beach cut off from the rest of the land by the rivers and lake, but the child had commented she'd seen a wooden carving similar to the one on her bracelet within the shrubbery along the stretch. Her gaze flickered to the wolf charm, biting her lip as memories welled up. Quickly she shook her head, dispelling them with a scowl.

"The past's in the past now, leave it be," she grumbled to herself, turning abruptly from the water. The carving would still be there come springtime when the ice was gone and travel was safer. As she walked with an angered gate, tail lashing through the air, she could only think of how ironic it would be to run from the northern regions of her birth... only to find one source of her problems here in the south in which she sought to escape.

Apparently, someone up there didn't want her forgetting anything any time soon. Lovely.

Ven had been lurking in the dark shadows of the forest, the naked branches dancing in the wind, devoid of leaves that withered during the cold season. If the light of day had disappeared, and the darkness of the night overwhelmed the skies, the thin trees would have held a haunting look. But the appearance they held was a lonely one, Ven noted, blue eyes looking up at the unadorned branches.

His hooves stepped in front of each other, in a rhythmical pattern, his pace similar to a snail, his slack pace approaching a vast clearing. The light caused by the reflection of the sun on the frozen lake identified the unfamiliar area, Ven's clothed body approaching the mare from behind. At first, he didnt see the mare's pale colors against the pale scenery, and probably wouldnt have noticed, but her brown mane and tail caught his attention immediately, blue eyes widening in wonder. What reason would a mare have to be outside in the chilly weather such as this? His thoughts didnt last for long, observing the mare for a short moment. Her posture seemed to give off a distinctly.. annoyed vibe..? That was the impression Ven assumed from her angered pace and the lashing of her tail against the frozen scenery. It wasnt a matter of thought, but simply a reflex that provoked Ven into yelling a greeting to the mare.

"Hey there! Is there something here that is causing your angry disposition?" He said, his tone light, as he neared the mare, his hooves walking at a pace matching his relaxed posture and cheerful personality.

The shout caught her off guard, jumping visibly as she whirled around to face of her otherwise silent stalker. Her thoughts were now in shambles, wide eyes bewildered and confused as she took in the sight of the clothed stallion. She'd seen some like Beatrice with only small articles of two-legger-esque clothing about them, but none like him. The disheveled blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes were an odd relief though, a welcomed change to the bronze and gold, black and brown that had previously plagued her mind.

Slowly her mind caught up with the situation, his words echoing in her head before a blush cascaded over her figure. "Oh, um- no, not here, per say," she stuttered, floundering about for the right words to explain away her dark behavior. Heat flushed her cheeks further as she glanced down. "It was... memories, you see. I was reminded of things I'd rather just forget about." Her meek shrug was a poor attempt at nonchalantly brushing aside the matter, though her mind was at length returning to a more normal version without the nagging recollections.

Sheepishly she rose her head, bangs falling around her face as she gave a meek smile. "Sorry about that." Straightening, the grin grew in strength and width, becoming more of a genuine sign of greeting. "My name's Bella, thank you for your concern, though really, I'm fine."

She paused, muzzle twitching to the side slightly as curiosity surfaced now that she shoved aside her embarrassment along with the previous subject. "If you don't mind me asking, what brings you out this way?" Although these weren't the lonely mountains, as of yet she ran into only a few other equines like herself, though again none quite like him. But somehow, asking about his attire didn't seem all that polite, especially as a first question.

How delightfully amusing the mare's reaction was. Ven didnt bother to conceal the twitching smile that crossed his cheerful expression, his unconcealed smile widening at her confusion. Obviously, his voice had startled the mare, a fact that Ven did not feel the need to apologize for. His blue eyes took in her flushed expression as she struggled to describe her source of annoyance.

The stallion came closer, his interest was only vague in the cause of her annoyance, since Ven believed that such business was not to be pried into. Nor did he have interest in finding out what sort of cause had started her troubled thoughts. As long as the mare wasn't preoccupied in dark thoughts any longer, Ven was satisfied, ignoring her obvious shift in topic. He returned her meek smile with a wide grin of his own, the stallion seemed to hand out his relaxed smiles freely. "Glad to see you're fine. " Ven noticed the widening of her smile, gladsome of her warm greeting. "I'm Ven. Nice to meet you." Ven returned the introduction, shaking his head slightly, flipping the bothersome bangs out of his eyes. He took in the cool air through his muzzle, the air returned to the atmosphere turning to cold puffs.

"What brings me out this way..? Uh.. You can call it.. exploring?"" Ven suggested cheekily, his expression in triumph as if it were some great conquest in deciding his reason for being outside. "Clothes keep me rather warm in this weather. Aren't you cold, standing outside like this?" Ven inquired out of concern, eyebrows furrowing into a wrinkle, as he examined her fur-covered body. His added comment somewhat answered her curiosity, but it wasnt as if Ven had knew that she was thinking of such things. It was, after all, a concerned comment.

The relief and slight shock she felt when the youth didn't press for further information about her past troubling experiences must have been evident on her face. Too used to it was she, the pestering questions as to every little problem she might have if she didn't guard her expressions and words carefully. But to suddenly be in the presence of someone who understood the meaning of privacy... spirits be praised! If it wouldn't be the most embarrassing she'd ever done she would have cried right then in there for joy. Instead though, she merely held the friendly smile, growing still as he drew nearer.

And what a friendly one at that! Not that she hadn't come across others with equally pleasant personalities, but none were quite as... sunny as him. Bright, cheerful, yes but... not like this one.

Introductions completed, she returned the nod of greeting, the corners of her mouth twitching as she kept herself from laughing as he fought a bit with his hair. It wouldn't be especially polite to let the chuckles slip out, now would it? So she listened to his explenation, lifting a brow at his expression when he figured out his chosen terming, noting how he spoke it as a question instead of a statement. What a strange stallion...

Bella shook her head when he popped a quick question, finding it ironic that while here she thought he looked encumbered, his thoughts were that she'd be cold. Well, not that he wasn't right, but still. "My fur coat keeps me warm enough, though I've always been a bit sensitive to the cold regardless." She made a face, wondering then if life might be a bit easier if she did throw on some two-legger attire when the temperatures dropped.

"You'll have an interesting time in summer, though." She wasn't sure why her mind took that turn, but the sudden concept of her being perfectly content in the summer sun while he's off heating up under all that material had her snickering like a filly.

Ignoring the obvious relief on her face, Ven couldnt help but get the impression that this mare was rather transparent in her feelings. One could read her mind, simply by observing her face and posture. But that sort of thing, Ven had no such interest in. Why be interested in someone's past when you would only know them for the present? He could see the hints of laughter, her calm composure didnt fully conceal her amusement as Bella may have intended to. He could only give her a somewhat embarrassed grin, moving on towards the next topic smoothly, indicating that his messy hair too trivial to be the center of attention for much longer.

"I see. I dont mind the weather, as long as it's not dangerously lethal. After all, we cant have rocks dropping from the sky or something absurdly similiar." Ben's relaxed expression sent out another wide smile before looking up at the sky mockingly in forged worriness, his eyebrows creasing inwards as the gray clouds sought to cloak the sky in it's bleak coloring.

When Bella remarked on his clothes during the summertime, Ven continued his sentence, with a feigned touch of regret. "I'm sure I will. I'll probably be rushing to find some convenient cover. No doubt that's where I'll be found most often. When you find a collapsed soquili on the ground under a tree, who may look remarkably like myself, leave him to be since he'll most likely be ending his life in the cool foliage happily." Ven's blue eyes glimmered with a teasing pleasure. He let the witty comment hang in the air for a moment, allowing the mare time to send a response back. As sudden as rain might start falling from the sky, a thought hit him, Ven directing his gaze to the mare in an apologetic manner.

"How rude. I forgot to ask why you may be here. Were you looking for someone of something? Or did I interrupt you while you were headed somewhere? If I did, feel free to send me off in the other direction anytime now." Ven offered, his hoof stepping forward, as if a human might be scratching the back of their head in an discomfited way, his tone holding a hint of apology. Yet again, his tone was full of easy-going emotion, as if the action of sending him away was no bother at all. To Ven, it wasnt.
