Drugs (What? When and how much?) None.
Hobbies Dancing, singing, playing the flute, making jewelry.
How does character spend a rainy day? Inside, sewing.FamilyMother Lalina Mertulware
Relationship with her Like all women of her people, Satika was raised primarily by her mother and her father's other wives. That said, she and Lalina have a fairly antagonistic relationship. Her mother does not feel that Satika shows the proper decorum for a woman who's husband is missing. Particularly, Satika's desire to adopt children is considered particularly distressing by Lalina.
Father Mertul
Relationship with him They stop speaking once she married. But he was glad to be rid of his troublesome daughter. He's since passed away.
Siblings Six of them, four boys.
Birth order Satika is the last daughter, and the second to last child.
Relationship with each Satika is not particularly close to any of her brothers, and none made it to Gaia anyway. Of her sisters, one, Lersist, came to Gaia, and they're fairly close.
Children of siblings She has numerous nieces and nephews, and is quite fond of her sisters' children. On Gaia, there's only Lersist's kids.
Children Satika is barren, and so has no biological children. She does have one adopted child, Taima.
Extended family None of them came across to Gaia.
Close? To her aunts, yes.AttitudeCharacter's greatest fear (Why?) Satika secretly fears that her barrenness really is a punishment from the Mistress for her radical youth.
What is the worst thing that could happen to him/her? Her husband finding her.
What single event would most throw character's life in complete turmoil? Why? Her husband finding her (yes, again). Satika's current lifestyle, including the fact that she's taken in a child, is reliant of the fact that her husband isn't around for her to serve. While she may seems as if she lives according to the norms for her people, she's actually daring quite a bit. Were he tor return, that'd all change.
Character is most at ease when In solitude.
Most ill at ease when Around Gaian men. They confuse her.PrioritiesHow s/he feels about self Satika actually has a lot of confusion when it comes to self image. At one time, she had a surprisingly strong sense of her own power and ability, but life has burnt most of that away, leaving her incapable of seeing herself as more than the role her society has assigned her. She knows she is skilled within that role, but does not currently seek to stretch beyond it.
If granted one wish, what would it be? She would wish for the ability to bear children of her own. PersonalityGreatest source of strength in character's personality Determination. She speaks with grace and deference, but she has a will of iron. She can politely say no ten thousand times, if needed. While she doesn't use this character trait for herself, she will use it in the protection of those she loves.
Greatest source of weakness in character's personality (whether s/he sees it as such or not) Her submissiveness. Until she learns to see beyond her conditioning, she will never thrive, even in a Gaian environment.
Biggest vulnerability Her love of children. They can manipulate the hell out of her, without even really trying. TraitsOptimist or pessimist (Why?) Optimist. Satika's attitude is very 'deal with it as it comes'. She'll make the best of things as they are, and simply hope that nothing goes wrong.
Introvert or extrovert (Why?) She can act as either, as the situation requires. Naturally, she's more introverted.
Talents Playing the flute, dancing, grace, good manners.
Mannerisms Satika acts differently dependent on whether she is around men or women. Around men she is subservient, keeps her eyes lowered, and generally does her best to serve them. Women she treats with more friendliness, though she still seems inclined to take the role of hostess. Problems/CrisisHow character reacts in a crisis Assuming there's no man to hide behind, she tends to stay level headed until the problem has passed. She can actually seem almost cold, as fear puts her in her most coolly polite mode.
How character reacts to change She has a very wait and see attitude. Unless it is something that harms her loved ones, she usually just lets things happen to her. GeneralFavorite clothing She wears long, flowing skirts in a variety of colors, and they usually reach her ankles. She favors silks and satins over more plain fabrics, and patterns over solids. Her tops have long, wide sleeves that almost hide her small hands, and are usually cut low enough to show off a fair amount of cleavage.
Jewelry and other accessories Yes, Satika generally wears a number of bracelets and rings, as well as decorations in her hair.
Play musical instrument? Which? How did s/he learn? Satika plays the flute, and quite well. She's also passable at the harp. She learned these skills from her mother. It is considered important among her people for a women to be able to entertain.

The Crime
In Short Heresy
At Length Starting a religion that supported the superiority of a lesser Goddess, publishing literature critical of the one true religion, starting an uprising, and performing a bonding for a male.
Religion The Tena Dar worship the god Rru, who leads a pantheon of lesser gods. Rru is the god of fertility, credited with being the creator of all the other gods. The reason that a female led society worships a male god is unclear, according to the Tena Dar 'it's always been that way', and questioning it isn't an option. The church is one of the few vocations available to men.
The Tena Dar are quite religious. Attendance to religious services is expected and required (though rich families often employ their own priests, or give large donations to encourage the church to look the other way), and services are given three times weekly (six day weeks).
Much of the position of males in society has to do with the worship of Rru. Males are expected to imitate Rru, who does not have a Kase Da, and is described as 'lovely and gracious as the sun'. That said the association with Rru puts males in an odd position. Should they show themselves to be less than spiritual, they are often scorned. Often, a male who falls on hard times is not assisted, because he is said to have displeased Rru. Females, who don't have such a close connection with Rru, are not held to the same high standard.
Heresy
Keekrradess first became interested in the problems of religion after the death of her incredibly religious mother. Her mother was brutally raped and killed by a group of males. Such violent gangs are not entirely uncommon, given the lives unattached males face. Keekrradess was left trying to figure out how supposedly holy males could do such damage, and how such a pious woman could suffer so at their hands.
She found no solutions, only more problems. She learned of the short, brutal lives that unattached males often lived. Rru, it was said, had abandoned them, but no reason was given. Her own brother faced the same fate, being unbecomingly sickly and thus unable to attract a female. Though not overly attached to her family members, she was unable to find a reason why Rru would abandon her brother, who had always been obedient to religious law.
Troubled, she allowed her brother to remain in her household, even after he reached the age where, traditionally, she should have kicked him out of the nest. She became more and more reclusive, spending much of her time studying religious texts. She became more and more disenchanted with Rru finding that she preferred Sstakareevv. Sstakareevv was the goddess of tranquility and meditation, not overly important but appealing to the reclusive Keekrradess.
Keekrradess decided that tranquility was exactly what the world needed. She became inspired (she would say by the goddess herself), and began to write books that created guidelines for a new religion, and indeed a new society. She used her considerable inheritance to publish these texts and distribute them, mostly to unattached males. The males, especially, stood to benefit from her ideas. While Keekrradess was perhaps even more distant from males than most her species, she sympathized with their general plight, and more importantly felt that their situation had caused many of the societies problems (particularly her mother's death). Thus, to create a tranquil society, the issue of males had to be dealt with.
Keekrradess put forth the radical solution of giving them Kase Da, thus making them productive members of society. This was the height of heresy, and indeed considered impossible by most. However, she thought differently, and was prepared to prove it. By this point the leader of what could only be called a cult, she called her followers together to witness the ultimate defiance of the status quo. In front of a crowd of unattached males (and a couple sympathetic females) she performed a bonding between her brother and a Kase Da.
And it worked.
This was, of course, the final straw. The males, shocked by the event and made bold by her words, rioted. The authorities, who had expected the new religious fad to simply blow over, were forced into action. She and her brother were taken into custody before the sun rose. Keekrradess and her Kase Da were quickly thrown in a pod and sent off into space, lest her death make her a martyr. As to her brother, well, she doesn't know what happened to him.

The Homeworld
Name of Home Planet Sidela
Description of home planet Sidela is not an overly interesting planet. It's a bit on the small side, but not excessively so (not so big as earth, but considerably bigger than pluto). The land masses are mostly small islands (from the size of England on down), but they are closely clustered, so that flight from one island to another is not difficult. Of course, one can't fly with a Kase Da, so the males tend to be more mobile, while women tend to pick an island and stick with it (though the more eccentric females oft times decide to live on boats).
Most of Sidela is in the tropical range, and the majority of the islands are heavily forested with huge trees. The Tena Dar's homes and cities are built in these trees, so deforestation isn't really an issue. Paths do exist on the ground for the Kase Da, but as they're a fairly versatile species, actual roads are unnecessary. While Sidela society is high tech, cars were never developed, as no need was seen. There are, however, very fast boats, and planes.
The Tena Dar We Who Are The Tena Dar (literally: we who are) are the sapient species on Sidela. They're... well... avians. Literally. That is to say, they aren't humans with wings, or human looking birds, or harpies. They're birds. That's it. No thumbs, no real ability to manipulate tools, just lots of feathers and big wings. So, how did they evolve to the point of sapience? Put simply, they had another species to do all the tool building, fire making work for them.
The Tena Dar possess the ability to form a soul bond with another species on Sidela, called the Kase Da. Through this bond, they can communicate telepathically, and give detailed directions. Thus, the Kase Da, who possess the all important opposable thumb, are able to light fires, make tools and record history for them. The Kase Da, however, lack sapience. They're intelligent, to a point, at least the match for an ape, but thats about as far as it goes.
Tena Dar society is matriarchal in nature. Males (with their colourful feathers and nice manners) are seen as primarily decorative, and indeed as almost... sub Tena Dar. This is, in part, because males are not permitted to form a soul bond with a Kase Da (it's said they can't, but who knows). Females keep up to four spouses, dependent on there economic ability to provide for the males. Because they lack a Kase Da, males are incapable of taking part in most professions, and a male without a provider has few options outside of prostitution or crime. As the male to female ratio is on average 4:1 favoring males, it isn't entirely unusual for a male lacking the right feathers or social graces to fall on hard times.
The Kase Da Those Who Do The Kase Da closely resemble minotaurs. They are generally humanoid, but with bovine features. They have human like hands, but their feet are hooves. Both males and females have large, curling (ram like) horns. Naturally, their coats are short, and lean toward the brown end of the spectrum. Kase Da have about the equivalent intelligence of an ape, perhaps slightly better. Kase Da naturally live in small herds, and they prefer the rockier islands, where there are less predators. They are, by nature, docile and friendly.
Soul Bonded Kase Da are a bit different than wild Kase Da. For one thing, they seem at least somewhat smarter, perhaps because they have a voice in their head giving them guidance. Also, many (particularly those bred for the rich) have features which aren't found in wild Kase Da. There are breeds of Kase Da without horns, with long silky coats, or in colours not found in the wild. Tame Kase Da tend to be smaller (though some exist bred for extra size) then their wild counter parts.
The Bond Female Tena Dar are considered old enough to bond at eight years old. Dependant on family and local customs, a young Kase Da may already be picked out either by the child or the child's family. In other cases, one is located once the child reaches the proper age. Kase Da are considered to be of bonding age around the age of three, the age at which they can be safely weaned from their mothers.
Though the specifics differ from culture to culture, there is always a large ceremony at the time of bonding. Men are forbidden from the church, and those too poor to afford a ceremony (or a Kase Da) are provided one by the government. A piece of the girl's soul is given to the Kase Da, and the two form a bond that can only end in death (and indeed, the death of one is the death of both). A telepathic link is established between the two, through which the Tena Dar can communicate with the Kase Da.
Tena Dar can use the telepathic link for basic communication, but also to give specific and detailed orders. A Tena Dar can also take over the body of their Kase Da, but they usually avoid this, as it's very upsetting for the Kase Da. Kase Da can also communicate through the link, though they communicate with emotions, colours, and pictures.
