It was a beautiful day outside and so Tari had pestered and pestered until her mother had agreed to leave her magical laboratory and take Tari outside. There may have been an explosion in there due to pestering during a crucial stage of the process, but Tari was happily ignoring that part in favour if having gotten her way. Luckily, Kali had seemed more resigned than angry about the failed experiment.
So it was that mother and daughter ended up in Barton for lunch at a large, fancy garden ("botanical", Kali had called it) complete with a ritzy little cafe. They'd decided to eat before wandering the gardens, possibly due to Kali having realised she'd been in her labs working for the past day or two without any food.
While Kali sat at a table and perused the menu, Tari snuck off to the side. The cafe area was outside, lightly shaded. Around the edges were Asian-themed pools of water, with small waterfalls and long, winding streams. Splashes occasionally rose over the low murmur of the tiny waterfalls, as brightly coloured fish leapt into the air.
The fish captured Tari's attention. She'd never seen something like this before, not so large or so pretty. So many bright colours: red, orange, white, black, gold... Splotches and stripes and so many patterns.
Tari leaned further and further over the small wooden fence keeping people from falling in. "Fishy, fishy, fishy," she called, stretching out a hand to try and touch the koi. "Come here, fishy!"

Wandering the gardens on his own, Tang blinked at the bright light that reflected off one of the many pools of water. Ki was not the overprotective type, and when they'd gotten to the garden/cafe, she'd simply told him that she wasn't going to spend hours hunting for him when she was ready to go. Truthfully, he suspected she'd stopped so she could have some time to herself, while he explored the gardens--one of the things that hadn't changed, even as he'd gotten a much better grasp of his surroundings, was his pushy, often bordering on aggressive, curiosity...and complete refusal to acknowledge the personal space of others, when it suited him.
Leaning back in one of the rather delicate looking (but surprisingly comfortable) cafe chairs, Ki tapped one booted foot thoughtfully on the ground, the picture of casual indolence...outwardly, at least. Her new adoptee was proving to be more of a handful than she'd anticipated--unlike Oberon, who could be ignored due to his size, the raevan had a way of making his presence known--even when she'd rather be unaware of it.
It was a given that she was used to operating around often-difficult personalities--but she'd yet to have accepted responsibility for the welfare of another being, human or not. That wasn't to say that she'd found some sort of burgeoning motherly instinct (she was, in fact, far more inclined to provide less in the way of outright guidance than one might usually consider adviseable, being of the mind that the best way to learn was to make mistakes on one's own).
When the waitress stopped at her table to take their order, Ki ordered the most sickeningly sweet-sounding cake on the menu, along with a glass of sweet tea for Tang, and a scone and a cup of black coffee for herself.
Turning his attention from a colorful butterfly, Tang froze at the sound of Tari's voice, looking around curiously to see who was speaking--were they talking to him? Ki often referred to him as being a fish, especially when she was irritable, and he was badgering her with questions, or getting in her way.
Pushing aside a branch, Tang finally spotted the other raevan. It was another one of the ones like him! He'd not met any since Lazarus, much to his annoyance. "I don't think they understand you..." he offered, vaguely amused.

Tari yelped as a voice spoke up next to her, and if not for a Raevan's ability to float, would have joined the fish in the pond. Golden claws dug into the low railing as she used it to keep herself in place. When she felt reasonably confident that she was neither going to fall over or shoot up into the sky in an effort to reject the pull of gravity into the pond, she swung her head to see who had startled her.
Large green eyes blinked. The newcomer, apart from having a rune and ribbon body like her own, had a sheen of scales just like a...
"Fishy!" Tari clapped in delight before swarming forward for a hug (her new favourite thing of the week). "I called for fishy and fishy came! God granted Tari's wish," she beamed proudly.
She grabbed at one of the Raevan's hands, and with the other, pointed at the Japanese koi loitering under lily pads in the pond. "Fishy call over other fishies? For Tari? Pretty please?"

Tangaroa blinked, reflexively hugging her back, although the action felt strange--he himself had no issue with personal space, but he'd never been hugged before...Ki was hardly the overly affectionate type anyway, even less so given her wariness of his spiney fins.
Shaking his head, Tang touched a fingertip to her wrist. "Can't speak fish..." he said clearly, cocking his head to the side as he looked more closely at her. He didn't mention that fish tended to give him a wide berth, anyway--it was as though they recognized the predatory nature of the fish whose soul had been used in his creation.
"What name?" he demanded, tone clearly indicating that he didn't consider the question to be a request. He also made no move to introduce himself, clearly finding that to be of little importance.

"No speak fishy?" Tari gaped, clearly surprised and disappointed. Such a thing hadn't occurred to her. If you were part fish, you should speak fish! Absently she wondered if she spoke angel, but having never met one, she had no way of knowing. At least fish lived on earth. Belatedly, it occurred to her that maybe this fishy felt bad enough about not speaking fish without her making a fuss. "Is okies," she reassured Tangaroa, patting his arm, "at least speak Raevan. Can has Raevan family instead of fish family, yes?"
The upside of not really knowing manners, was that Tari had no idea when someone else didn't have them. The concept of 'rude' escaped her, seeing as how she mostly did and said whatever she pleased - it just so happened that she was mostly nice about it. Pointing to herself, she said, "Is Tari. Hihi! And fishy are?"

Tangaroa grinned, a naturally rakish tilt of his lips. "I'm Tangaroa. Can call Tang. Tari name strange...pretty, but strange." he observed, noting that Tari, like some of the humans he'd seen while following Ki, had a far more substantial chest than his guardian.
"Why want to call fish?" he demanded, not sounding angry so much as autocratic, as though she owed him the answer. He was slowly learning more speech, and that most employed more tact than he did...however, as far as he was concerned, his desire to understand, and to have his questions answered, was far more important than social niceties...perhaps as he matured a bit that would change, and he'd learn the benefits of discretion...but for the moment, it was very obviously alien to his nature.
