A Ratkin's Tale (Unfinished)

She bent over clutching her stomach in pain. Not now oh god please not now. She was so close just a bit further , one more block and she would be in his arms. He could make the pain go away always could. Just a bit further, please just let me get there. She gathered what strength she had left and pulled herself off the ground. The world swam, her vision blurring and black around the edges, she could feel herself shiver. Then she fell into unconscious, head hitting pavement adding to the white hot pain that danced through fevered dreams.

She awoke in an alley, at least by the smell and taste of it she assumed it was an alley. Her head pounded and eyes refused to open. She felt a touch, rough and masculine, on her forehead. Her body convulsed. Blood?! There's blood in my mouth. “Spit it up girl before you choke on it.” Alexander. How do I know his name? She turned her head and spit away from the hoarse voice. “That's a good girl. I want you to open your eyes for me.” She obeyed, putting faith in the stranger, and opened her eyes slowly wincing as light hit her. “Good very good.”

Her mind raged, behind the pain she felt her blood pumping fast and hard. Her pulse racing to the he beat of the chattering of tiny teeth and the speed of thousands of paws. What did he just say? “You're Ratkin now girly.” Ratkin? She closed her eyes, images flashed before her of wars fought between creatures, tall rat folk getting slaughtered at the hands of wolves. The chattering gets louder and she whimpers. It's hurts so bad, she just wants it to end. “What you're going through now, well that's the birthing plague. You'll survive it though if you just concentrate on the blood. You look strong and Rat wouldn't send me to you unless he thought you had a purpose.” The images kept flashing as Alexander kept talking. Feelings of rage and betrayal replacing pain little by little.

100 Word Prose Times Three (Continuing)

The smoke rose into the air and spiraled away from the cigarette. Fred shifted slightly on the cold ledge of the porch. It hurt on days like this. Days when she slowly broke down and couldn't care anymore. She took another drag and watched the smoke leave her lips and dissipate into the darkness. The door opened behind her, she knew who it was before he even exited the doorway. Fred flicked the cigarette onto the sidewalk before facing him. His silence spoke of understanding and as he wrapped his arms around her, she broke down and let him in.

She melted into his arms. For once it felt good to be on the receiving end instead of the giving. She was tired and angry but in his arms she felt safe, and maybe she could even forget for a little while. He whispered soothing words next to her ear and she felt her breath hitch and the tears fall. Fred fell forward and he caught her easily. He cradled her in his arms and rocked her gently. In the distance she heard music and wished she could turn it up so that she wouldn't hear her world fall apart.

Fred stared emptily at the paper in front of her, her head supposed to be concentrating on recipes and dinners, as the words from the television socked her hard in the gut... “Well I tell you something. You take me for granted!... I’m angry! And just because I love you doesn’t mean I can’t hate you too. And I hate you...We never talk, we just don’t.” She turned away slightly wiping stray tears that fell down her cheeks, hoping that she was quick enough that he wouldn't see. She refused to wear her heart on her sleeve this time.

Prophetic rambles (drabble)

“Take it from me nothing good comes from the quiet ones.”
I looked up from my book and stared at the man sitting across from me on the train. “Excuse me?”
“The quiet ones laddie. They've always got something to hide. Always watching you.” He smiled an 'cat ate the canary grin' before standing up to stretch.
I put my book back down, and ran a hand through my short cropped hair. “Now is it all women or just the quite ones?” I said giving him my best curious look.
“All women are up to something, but at least the talkative ones let you know it. No sneaking about for them,” The train slowly slowed reaching the station and the man started for the door, “Yep my boy, it's always the quite ones”.
I smiled as I watched him exit, not having the heart to tell him I was a girl.

Old Lovers (poem)

His old guitar sits in the corner
like a lover tossed aside
color slightly faded from years of caresses
strings straying from the tight confines
of tuning pegs wound too tight
...
His memories sits, covered in dust
silent music etched
into
worn wood and metal
that only he can hear
...
His old guitar sits in the corner
waiting for his hands to return

Untitled (poem)

Forgive me father for I have sinned...
I exhibited wrath today.
...
She left me
She.
Left.
Me.
And you know what
I was angry
the betrayal of it
imagining his lips on her...
his hands
...
She choose him
and I couldn't handle it
never was one for rejection Father
Even as the words came spewing from her mouth
the only thing I could picture
was ripping her heart out
And I...

I'm sorry father...
She left me today and I let her go
watching through a dirty window
as she walked away...

her scent lingered in the room
it made me sick to my stomach
...
I followed her father
and father
I laughed when I heard the sound of metal on metal
I laughed...

I didn't want to...
but I enjoyed it...

Forgive me father

If We Kissed (drabble)

A comfortable silence mingled with the haze filled air. Fingers danced around beer bottle necks and across the tables. Hers played with the delicate white-gold ring that graced her ring finger, twisting it ever so slightly so that the small diamond in the center reflected light. She jumped slightly as long, graceful fingers ghosted across the top of her hand, stilling her movements. Emerald eyes with specks of gold held her gray ones. Bending forward, a smile playing on his lips before he gently kissed her, he stole her breath and caused her eyes to fall closed. She melted in his arms and he held her giving her eternity for a few seconds. The comfortable weight gone, cold air stealing away its warmth brought her back to reality, and she glanced at him across the table. Time moved forward capturing the moment and she surrendered it even as she brought her fingers to her lips, still warm from his.

Broken Wings, Bruised Fingers (Poem)

Reaching for heaven
and my hands come back
with false idols
and fallen angels
gifted tongues and honeyed words
couldn't mask my rejection

Artistic Endeavor (Poem)

Air passing
Though fingers
Movements controlled
While digits slice through scenery
Colors rippling
And moving together
As if untouched
Except I know better
As my hands come back
Encased in pieces of the sky

Untitled (unfinished)

To whom it may concern:

By the time you get this letter I should be dead and floating in Lake Michigan. I guess “should” is the appropriate word considering that there is a good chance that I might regret my actions and stop myself or just screw up all together. I mean that’s why I’m killing myself, isn’t it? My name is Cass O’Connell and I am a screw up.

Take the past year for instance. I was minding my own business, just being my overly cheerful and good student self, when I fell in love. Literally mind you, I tripped over a girl and fell truly, madly, deeply in love with her, just as the song says. She laughed, while I grimaced at the foolishness of my actions and then looked at me in that concerned way. She brought her hand up and with nimble fingers wiped a line of blood off my lower lip. I was touched by the simple action and lent her a tissue-I was a girl scout, so I’m always prepared for those occasions when a girl has to wipe my blood off her. She smiled and I smiled, and for once it was a genuine smile on my part. Then she looked at her watch, her raven hair curtaining her face, and looked up in shock. She had to run she told me. And run she did. I was left there grinning like an idiot and didn’t even realize that I didn’t get her name until later that night.
Shite. A beautiful girl actually pays attention to me and I don’t even say ‘hey thanks for the help’ or ‘hi my name’s Cass what’s yours’ or even the great ‘nice shoes, wanna ********’.

Depression (story)

He looked down at the still body. She was cold so very cold. He took off his jacket ignoring the biting winds and wrapped it around her pale figure. She wasn’t dead. She couldn’t be dead. For her to be dead, meant that he would be dead. One soul cannot exist without its twin. He sat on the chilled pavement and ran a shaky hand through the pale locks that shaded her face. Wake up…please wakeup. He feels the wetness slip pass closed eyelashes. His hand wipes angrily, he can’t cry now, she need him to be strong. Strong arms pick her up and pull her close to his body. She shudders beneath him, light at first and soon stronger. Pale green eyes became visible as her eyelids flutter and open, her tears spill down. What happened? Her voice lacks feeling, lacks life, and it hurts him to hear her that way. An accident love, we’re okay though. Did he sound confident enough; did his voice carry the strength that he lacked? He tightened his grip, cradling her in his lap. He could feel her pulse-so soft and slow compared to the rapidness of his own. I love you…from now until forever. Her voice came out a soft whisper and only now did he let his tears flow. I know love. He bends down and cringes slightly as he feels the coldness of her lips. The kiss is tender, even as her body convulses. He looks in her eyes and sees love in their depths although the light in them slowly fades. Forever… She closes her eyes and breathes her last breath. The scream echoes through the lonely road and he cradles her body so close to his. Sirens ring in the distance, to late to save her… to late to save him. He cries openly, breaths hitching in a sore chest, and he knows that he will never cry again-never love again. It hurts so bad and he can do nothing to alleviate his pain. Rain falls, caressing the torn lovers. Hands grasp his shoulders lifting him up. An EMT tries to take her body away, but he refuses-not now please not now. Forever- Eyes show sympathy, understanding. He nods and shows him to the ambulance. Doors close and he kisses the brow of his lover one last time-goodbye. For the moment they are one-one soul..one heart..one life. He cries for her and from above she cries with him.

I wanted to Write
wanted to scribble failed thoughts
onto paper
hoping it would make
me
feel like a write
like everything else though
I couldn't find the time
