(( Occurs when Kibela is a Juve and Aberforth is a cub. At this time, Kibela's bird was a female red-tailed hawk named Nigeela *made up for backstory purposes, hope that's ok 8D* )) Well, wasn't today a fine day? Frowning, Kibela glared up at the sky - young face already settling into a permanent sort of scowl. He was always grumpy about something or other ... not necessarily angry, and not even really very upset ... just... never really very happy either. Mostly because the world seemed to be against him, to tell true.
For example, he'd made tentative sort of plans the night before to go hunting in a certain spot today. But said spot almost depended on the weather being cloudy - or else everything for miles would see his shadow and run away. Because the spot was in a canyon...
And now, it had decided to be sunny. Ugh."Hey, lighten up," Nigeela said, swooping down over his head. "We can always find another place to hunt, you know...""It's not that easy," Kibela grumbled, though he knew she was right. And he knew that it really was that easy. It just ... hadn't been in his plans, and he hated changing plans. It just made him grumpier than usual.
Sighing, he turned and trotted off toward another hunting spot - just hoping that clouds didn't magically spring up as soon as he got there. That would really put him in a bad mood.

Aberforth was a little nervous. It was very rare that he would wander away from the den, and now he was further than ever before! Uchungu was with him, offering words of comfort and telling him that it was in his best interest to start exploring a little more before he got too old.
“But…” the male protested even as he walked further away from home, “this place is so big… what if I get lost? Or something hurts me?! I don’t think this is a good idea at all! Let’s go back.”
“Abe, you have to be more out going! You’ll never be a big lion if you don’t shape up. You want to be a big lion, right?”
“Not really… I’m happy being this small…”
“Aberforth, enough. You’re exploring today. Try to be happy about it, alright?” Uchungu said, her word law. She flew away at that, though only to look ahead. Distraught, the cub obeyed, continuing his adventure as it lead him to the watering hole. As he neared it, he could hear things in the water. Large things. Maybe… this wasn’t a good thing.
He moaned, whimpering and turning to leave, his attention taken by a small, round creature. What was it? He didn’t know that it was a baby hippo that had wandered a little far from the muddy water. With Uchungu gone, he went to investigate, poking the babe with a paw.

"What about down by the watering hole?" Nigeela said, gliding along a few feet above the young lion's head. "We could go fishing..."
Ugh. "You know I'm no good at fishing," Kibela replied with a grunt. But since he had no better plans, he turned his paws in that direction. He could also hear the hippos in the water and stayed clear of their area, padding over to flop down on a flat rock and stare disgustedly at the water.
Swooping in to land beside him, Nigeela plucked gently at an ear with her beak. "Aw come on. Did you come here to lie around or to hunt?"
"There's nothing to hunt here. You go fish if you want to," Kibela replied, swiping at paw at the bird half-heartedly.
With a squawk, Nigeela took off again. "Fine have it your way!" she replied, sounding almost angry as she flew up to better see if there were any fish she could catch.
Kibela flinched slightly at her tone but didn't react, except to sink down further - making himself nearly flat. He just couldn't do anything right.

The hippo baby wasn’t all that thrilled to be poked by a lion cub, making strange noises the foolish Aberforth couldn’t discern as anger. The young white animal was very interested in the noises that were coming out of his mouth, poking the animal again and again. This was becoming a game to him, and he was very much enjoying it. The wails weren’t that pained or anything, so why should he worry? He thought the hippo was enjoying the game as well. That maybe he was finally making a friend.
He was… wrong.
The baby started to wail louder than ever, making Aberforth jump with fright. Worried, he moved closer to the baby, looking it over to make sure he hadn’t accidentally hurt it. “Don’t cry!” he gasped weakly, “please! Don’t cry! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to upset you like that!”
He soon found that the baby hippo was the least of his concerns. The calls had attracted the attention of his very irate mother, who was thudding her way over in a frenzy to protect her crying child. Before Aberforth knew what was happening, a massive female hippo was standing over him, mouth wide as though she intended to eat him.
And with how big she was, he felt confident that she could do just that.
“Someone help me!” squealed the boy, too frightened to think to run away from the pissed off animal.

All the noise had managed to attract the attention of the other lion in the area as well, and Kibela looked up with a frown. What was that idiot doing, poking at a baby hippo? Ugh...some people were so stupid!
He wasn't even sure why he got up and headed toward the other, telling himself it was just so he could get the other to quit making so much noise, even indirectly.
But by the time he'd almost gotten to the younger cub, the mother hippo was also moving.
Oh great. "Nigeela!" Kibela yelled, suddenly going faster and getting in between the mother hippo and the other cub.
"Go away, he didn't mean anything by it!" he yelled at the large animal - not seeming fazed at all by its size.
Then the hawk came screeching down out of the sky, swooping right over the hippo's face and distracting it.
"Come on," Kibela said gruffly to the smaller lion, and turned to kind of push him away. "Run, that way."

Aberforth was fairly certain that he was going to die. He didn’t even get to have a mane! All he wanted since before he could remember was a full, beautiful white mane and now he was never going to see himself with one! Thanks to some stupid little animal that had decided to have his mother murder him!
Life was so unfair.
Crouched on the ground, paws over his eyes while his butt trembled in the air, he waited for the end, hoping she wasn’t going to just chew him to his doom. Maybe she would be merciful and use one of her massive feet to stomp on his head.
When he heard shouting and angry hippo growls, Aberforth peered out from under his paws, watching the hippo contending with a bird while a big lion stood in front of him, keeping her from reach. It took a moment before he realized that he was actually being saved.
Gasping as the boy turned on him, he nodded weakly, getting up off the ground and scrambling to get moving. He rushed away from the animal, letting her be the one to get the baby hippo to stop crying.
“I’m sorry!” he yelled over his shoulder as he ran, though at that point he wasn’t sure it really mattered. He stayed near Kibela, simply because he felt if he led himself he would only run them into more trouble. The angry hippo didn’t seem done with them, charging in their wake.

"Oh great," Kibela muttered, when he noticed the mother charging at them. They should find a hiding place, and fast.
Looking around, he frowned and then spotted a little place under the rock he'd been flopped on top of earlier. "Go over there," he instructed the younger cub.
"Go hide, I'll distract her."
Then he turned around and yelled, "Hey stupid! Over here!" and darted off in another direction.

Aberforth whimpered, obediently scrambling to the rock and taking shelter, peering over at the other lion fearfully. His little body trembled, soft claws digging at the earth. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do. Help the other? Hide and NOT get himself killed?
The second option was sounding a hell of a lot better. That hippo was large enough to step on him and not feel it.
“Be careful!” He wailed.
He watched the hippo charge angrily after Kibela, having forgotten all about Aberforth in her rage. All she wanted to do was kill something.

Kibela snorted softly at the other cub's wailing and just ran faster, yelling for Nigeela as he did so. The hawk circled high and then dove again, claws aimed for the hippo's eyes.
Kibela rolled eyes even as he ran, dodging around another little group of rocks. "Not her! The baby!" he called out and the hawk blinked - suddenly understanding.
With a screech, she turned on a wingtip and flew toward the baby hippo, which, of course, made the little thing panic.

Aberforth watched through his paws as the bird attacked the hippos, amazed by her skill and how easily she listened to orders from the lion. Uchungu would peak him repeatedly on the head for even attempting to think that he could tell her what to do. She was more interested in ordering him around than taking any direction herself.
Which he was perfectly okay with since she did have a pretty damn sharp beak.
Sitting up slowly, he smiled, impressed with how calm this larger lion was. If only he could learn to be so brave! He needed to speak with him, assuming he lived, once the hippo thing was over.
The mother hippo had her attentions on her baby, wanting to protect it from the bird.

Kibela smiled just faintly at that. Perfect. Turning, he slowly worked his way back toward the smaller cub by hiding and ducking behind rocks. "Okay..." he whispered, right beside where Aberforth was hiding.
"Now while Nigeela's keeping her busy let's get out of here." For the moment, Nigeela was keeping the mother's attention pretty well, hoping to make her forget about the lions, but after a little while she would get tired and stop.

Aberforth nearly jumped out of his fur when he heard someone beside him. Gasping, his claws sank into the dirt, his back arching as he turned his head sharply towards the little creature. “Geez!” he whimpered sharply, “how did you… where did you… what?!” This lion was some kind of magician.
That had to be it.
“O-okay,” the little creature stuttered, turning and bolting away from the hiding spot, in the opposite direction of the distracted hippo. Once they were far enough away, he sprang around to face the other, hyped off his adrenaline. “Oh man! That was amazing! How did you know what to do like that?! Thank you! You saved me!”

Kibela huffed softly at that, having easily kept up with the smaller lion. "It's not a big deal," he replied, a bit gruffly. He would've done the same for any little cub stuck like that.
"I just figured that I had to get her attention away from you. What were you thinking, anyway ... playing with the baby like that?"

Aberforth looked like he was getting chewed out by his parents, a pout spreading over his muzzle as he looked down at the ground. He could feel his embarrassment mounting as he watched the dirt. “I…. I don’t know…” he whimpered softly, “I guess I thought I would be able to make a friend… it seemed nice enough.”
He looked up at that, smiling at the larger animal weakly, just because he didn’t know what else to do. “I didn’t mean to cause you any trouble! I’m reeeeeally sorry. My… my name is Aberforth. I’m… pleased to meet you.”

Oh so NOW he was going to try and be all polite? Well, sure... of course he was after Kibela had saved his life. Sighing softly, the larger male shook his head. "You don't make friends with baby animals when momma's around. Got it?" His tone might be just a bit blunt but ... hey, it was simple logic! Come on.
There was a little pause, then he said, "I'm Kibela. And like I said. Don't worry about it..."
