Yazmina landed spritely and gave herself a good shake. She'd flown as high as she dared to get a good look at the land below her. It wasn't as far up as the true winds could go, of course, but if she kept her flights short, she got a decent view. She was learning to recognize different sorts of trees from their tops as well as their trunks. She could map the path of a river from above and feel better about wandering its bank on the ground. There was always something new to learn. And someone new to meet, as she discovered when she straightened up and spotted Taigi. She hadn't had the chance to talk to many foals, and she looked around cautiously, just in case his mother might object. Then she took a breath and called out, "Hello, little one!"

Taigi watched his cloved hooves sink into the riverbank's sloshy mud as he tread along. As usual, the colt was up and around, seeking adventure and anything else new and exciting that might confront him. The river at his side was churning busily and upon looking at it, Tai could see the occasional white streak that signified the fatality of falling in. He, of course, kept clear of that adventure.
His head was clear and he was wandering wherever his legs took him. This river alone was quite new to him, never mind the creature he gazed at upon being called. At first sight, the mare looked much like his mother. In a pure, white color, but the long, graceful horn that protruded from her forehead was likeness enough. Upon closer inspection, however, Taigi noticed a pair of feathered wings firmly, naturally attached to her back. He stammered a "hello" in return, but it was choked out by his intrigued gasp.

She couldn't help but laugh, a little, though she wasn't laughing directly at him. "Did I scare you?" she wondered. "I didn't mean to. I'm sorry if I did. I'll try not to do it again." She took a step or two closer, then said, "My name is Yazmina. What's yours?"

It took him a long moment to snap out of his state of shock, but when he did, he gave the alicorn female a warm smile and shook his head. "My name's Taigi! And no, miss, you didn't scare me!" Once again he made the 'mistake' of giving his name to a complete stranger. But this time he hadn't felt any remorse whatsoever.
"What are you?" He couldn't help but ask this. It was in his nature to try and find out anything and everything pertaining to the other's being before upholding a 'normal' conversation with said other.

"Taigi," she echoed. "It's nice to meet you. And even nicer to know that I didn't scare you. I can be a little jumpy myself, sometimes, so I wouldn't have blamed you." And she didn't mean him any harm so she didn't think to mention that it might not have been wise to give his name. She'd asked, he answered, and it was fine by her.
She laughed at his question, though, warm and bright-sounding. "What am I? You've never seen anyone like me?" Obviously not. "I'm an alicorn. Hooves and horn and wings."

"You forgot to mention tail!" Taigi grinned up at her, losing all consciousness of the temporary shock earlier. She was now known and that made her usual. Never again would he ask why the mare, or any other of her kind, had both the wings of the wind and the horns, tails and cloven feet of the unicorn. He also found her presence soothing, pure. He was very sure of his decision to trust Yazmina now.
"It must be great, though, to have the ability to travel the skies. I mean, being a unicorn is great, but we can't do much else from a regular Soquili, except the 'natural weapon' part, of course." The colt tilted his head in such a way that his slight but proud horn became more visible.

"Oh yes, and tail," she agreed, flicking hers. She didn't think about all her different parts often. They weren't different to her, after all. She'd never had a flowing tail or been missing a horn so she didn't think to point them out as a general rule. They were just a part of her.
She flicked an ear and tipped her head a bit. "Nothing else? Well. Unicorns, I'm told, can heal a wound if they've been trained to know their powers," she told him. "Far better than an alicorn.". His show of pride made her smile. "There's magic in that horn of yours."

"Healing?" The colt's eyes widened as his fascination took over again, "magic?" This was the first time he heard of this 'magic'. He felt a warmth seep into his veins and throughout his body at the thought of having his own magic. Of being able to do something that not many else could.
But the mare did say trained. And how was he meant to do just so? His father hadn't a horn and his mother wasn't around to tell him of this power in the first place. The only other with a horn that Taigi saw daily was his brother, Lex, and Taigi was quite sure that his brother, who looked so much like his father, was none the wiser. But a new thought was gnawing on the sides of his mind, "could you train me?"
Yazmina also said that Alicorns had lesser power. But adults must surely have greater power than younglings, and Taigi was just that. A youngling. Another concern, though, was the fact that his father was a mere grounded stallion. With flutter roots, sure, but they didn't appear much too dominant. "Miss? My father hasn't unicorn blood, though, will that affect my magic?"
His magic. Oh, how wonderful it felt to say that.

She was sure there were some Soquili who thought that foals asked too many questions. Not Yazmina. She truly enjoyed hearing the questions they came up with, because very often, they weren't things she remembered asking when she was young. She must have, she thought, but she didn't remember the conversations.
"Healing and magic," she confirmed. Then blinked and lifted her head, surprised. Oh. She hadn't expected to be asked for help. "Well. I. I could try," she offered. "I could, at the very least, tell you a thing or two." She wasn't a master healer herself, so she wasn't sure how much she could actually teach.
"Your magic might not be as strong as another's with purer blood might be," she allowed. "But I don't think that will stop you from having any at all." She hoped. She'd hate to disappoint the colt.

"Oh." That was slightly upsetting. At least his mother had full powers, then, because as far as Taigi could remember, she was a pure unicorn. And Tai had something, now didn't he? He should be grateful, after all, he didn't even know of the Unicorns' healing powers up 'til this moment.
"Will it be stronger than yours?" This could've been a rude question, but he didn't mean it as such. He was genuinely curious, because she had told him that Alicorns had slighter powers than Unicorns. She must be a pure Alicorn, but Taigi was half pure Unicorn. Oh how mind-boggling the whole process was, it made the colt very curious.

She didn't take it as a rude question. She certainly didn't seem upset that he asked it. She did think another moment, studying him and choosing her words carefully.
"Understand that I can't promise anything." She didn't want to disappoint the colt, or tell him something that ultimately proved to be untrue. A betrayal like that might make him bitter, and she had no desire to break his little heart or hurt him in the least. "But as you are a unicorn, I would think so. And," she added, summoning up a smile, "if you practice, you will be stronger than if you don't."
Oh, she hoped she wasn't leading him down a disappointing path.

To Taigi, this was promise enough. He was going to be the best half-breed healer there ever was! He would practice whenever he found time to rest on his travels, he would do whatever it took to grasp the little magic that there was within him. "I'm sure that with your training, and practicing, I can make it work!" He beamed at her, hoping that she wouldn't take back her offer of trying to help.
And after all, if you thought of it as percentages, Taigi would have a higher percentage of unicorn than anything else. His grandmother was a flutter. And flutters had magic to transform, so wouldn't it add to his magic concentration? Now that he thought on it, he was bursting with excitement and anticipation, nervously awaiting the mare's response. He had so many questions, and those questions would be void if she disagreed.

Yazmina wasn't going to take the offer back. She wouldn't dare. She blinked a bit at his enthusiasm, then laughed. "I'm sure you can make it work," she agreed.
"All right. We'll give it a try. Oh!" A thought had occured. "I think it would be best if you asked your parents, just to be certain that they don't mind me teaching you. Or, well. I could ask them, if you'd rather."

"Parent..." Taigi suddenly had to observe a water droplet, result of the river's rush, crawling it's way down a strand of grass. He only had one. One that he saw every day, that was. And there was no problem with only having one parent present, not to Taigi. But his father wasn't a Unicorn, therefore wouldn't his approval mean nothing?
"But father isn't a Unicorn, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind at all so..." The colt gave the white mare a smile, one that he certainly wished to be bright and happy.

"Parent," she amended with a smile that tinged a little sad. "Whether he's a unicorn or not doesn't matter as far as permission is concerned," she explained gently. "I'd like to know that he doesn't mind someone else teaching his son." Whether the colt was sure of it or not.
