there's some bands i thought were emo, until i find out people dont think they;re emo bands. so what defines emo bands? i heard that indie bands are more emo?

Emo music = Emotive Hardcore a subsect of punk based around personal issues instead of smashing the government.

All Emo bands as of now are indie, I can't think of any on a major label.

It's step after hardcore, but not exactly the same same step post-hardcore took.

Bands like Gray Matter, Rites of Spring, 1000 travels of jawaharlal, and Nation of Ulysses.
