Well, I'm not sure if I will be hunting. Probably not. I've got one shotgun and it doesn't even have a slug barrel. stare
Stupid, "omfg shotgunz only okayz?/" zones.
Really what is it? Are the ricochets what they're worrying about? I honestly don't think that SPs, or JHPs ricochet that much. Definitely not at all when they hit something like... you know, an animal.

I heard it was mainly for when you miss an animal, and something/someone happened to be where it landed.
ANYWAYS.... to my knowledge, you don't NEED a slug barrel as long as you take out the choke. Sure; it'll be a little bit too long, but it's better than not going eh?

Well, I have used it without the slug barrel and no choke, but I just figure that a rifled barrel would work better than a non.

Maybe after a ton of slugs going through, the barrel might get a slight twist in it that makes the wad in a regular shell spin. As we all know, that is a bad thing.

Hunting season started last Saturday here. I went out Monday and saw a, singular, one, deer. a young doe, but I didn't take the shot, let her grow up, maybe get her next year.
I took my M1 with 165 grains of partially jacketed lean core.

Last year when I went hunting I zoned out and then suddenly noticed a rather nice size buck at the tree line staring me down. I couldn't move to shoot a slug drown his chest because like I said, he was staring right at me.
Then he started to move slowly to it's left along the tree line. A small pine blocked his view so I slowly raised the shotgun and aimed past the tree. Suddenly something spooked him and he took off.
gonk
It was probably some douche bag squirrels. I hate those ********.

I don't hunt. I'm too much of a sissy to deal with the field dressing and whatnot, and I do NOT have the patience to sit and wait for something to come to me. All my targets are targets of opportunity. Anything inside my fenced yard is fair game.

All my targets are targets of opportunity. Anything inside my fenced yard is fair game. I would do something like that, but since the game warden has actually come out after our property line neighbor bitched, I probably wouldn't be doing that. I have spotted squirrels, turkeys and pheasants in the front yard and, I'm sure that if I bait them, I'll get deer too. Well, this guy is being a douche bag. At prime time he went out on his four wheeler with the muffler taken off and went up and down his property line revving the ******** thing. ... I feel like being naughty. I want to put chlorine in his oil. I think he's jealous or got a hair in his v****a because the guy that we let hunt on our land bagged several deer this season and got three on the last.

Wait, when you say "slug barrel", do you mean a rifled shotgun barrel? Because they make fin-stabilizing slugs for smoothbore barrels.

Nobody complains out here unless you shoot their dog or something, and we've got a lot of our own land and uninhabited land to buffer us form neighbors. The fenced area is smack in the middle of our land, and it's a while before you hit neighbors. I just don't like wild animals inside our fence. It's fenced for a reason, unless it can fly it's got no business being in here.
