Of course he wasn't in the mood to be waddling around-trying to weasle his paws on some prey. Yesterday he had gorged on deadz zebra that had lain in the sun-and that was a treat. But now, all he could find was fresh things and that disgusted him. In fact-it made him sick to his stomach to even eat fresh. Something about the way cold-rotten meat slid down ones throat-was satisfying in all ways but one... he sometimes smelled...
He had rolled around in a mud wallow an hour ago or so, covering himself in it-erasing all scent of rot and mostly earth smell. Which, he prefered. The little fresh prey he did catch-wouldn't smell him at least. So now he padded on, shaking the dried mud of his red hide...
One mustn't be covered in mud in the dark.

Leru was also out this night looking for a quick meal - the lithe little serval having to be very careful to find places to hide so that her lighter pelt didn't show up in the darkness like a beacon.
She'd gotten fairly good at it over the years though, and she didn't anticipate any trouble. Plus, she knew that she could probably find food if she went back to where the rest of the group was - so it wasn't a huge big deal that she catch something for herself.
It was just ... nice sometimes to know one could still hunt for oneself when one wanted to.
Peering carefully through the grass, she smirked faintly - having managed to creep up on a rabbit. Now... carefully move forward, one paw at a time... and soon she would have her meal...

So onward he went, feeling the need to jack up the speed a bit. He spotted an old tree ahead and with a start-raced up it nimbly-even though his one eye gave him trouble-still clouded over occasionally. Damn that lion for scaring his face like that-uglying his good looks. He snorted, clawing the surface of the tree's dead bark with his claws-feeling the tension ease as pieces of the bark fell. What a delight-being able to be so high-he could see everything. He scrambled upwards more-slipping slightly on a rather bare patch of the tree-sending his back paws into a scrambling fit.
Finally, he was high enough to where he could see more. His crimson eyes stared around, wondering what he may see from such a height. Over in the distance-a badger was digging-perhaps a bee hive lay at the end of that hole. Sekh would have to check that out later. He turned his attention to the wind-holding his white nose into the air and giving it a good sniff.
He paused and scented again. A serval... but where... and a girl.. Oooh, Where was she.

And... NOW. Without a sound, Leru sprang out from hiding - pouncing on the hare, jaws going for it's neck.
She bit down hard and shook her head once, breaking the preybeast's neck in a moment, the kill mostly bloodless save for where her teeth had broken the skin. Leaning back a little, she licked her jaws, pleased with the easy kill.
Then she sat and curled tail about her paws for a moment, speaking softly to the hare's spirit. "Thank you for giving your life to sustain mine. May you have fortune the next time around the circle." The words almost had the feel of a ritual... but it wasn't really anything she'd been taught.
Leru simply believed that every creature deserved respect, even if they were made to feed her.

Sekh could hear someone speaking somewhere and he suspected it was the female he could smell. He leaned over the branch and deeply inhaled. Where-WHERE! He dug his nails in more-his chest pressed against the bark and his rear end in the air. His crimson eyes searched and he leaned more-he was about to call out to her-where was she when...
His chest slippped from the bark, his back legs left the branch and his front paws still retained their grip-only his front one slipped. He did not make a noise, though his crimson eyes were wider than a horn bills nest. He gritted his teeth-trying to pull himself up-his back legs kicking the air as his shoulders strained. He wriggled his way back up onto the branch. He sat there, all four feet planted on the thin branch-as he panted his fright.

At that, Leru stiffened slightly and looked around - hearing the noise that the male was making in nearly falling off his branch. Her ears went back against her head and fur fluffed out along spine and tail. She would not be very happy if someone else came along to steal her kill ... though if it was a larger predator, she would likely back off.
Finally, she spotted a dark form in a nearby tree and relaxed just slightly. Not larger at least... perhaps just another serval like herself. "Hello?" she called out, cautious.

Sekh felt tremmors cross his shoulders as he worked to balance himself. He bit his teeth together angerly... at no one in particular. He started to back towards the trunk of the tree-his paws strong and lithe against the thin branch, though his tail worked in circles to keep his balance. He made it to the trunk-and sighed to himself when someone called to him.
He lifted his head and in his deep manly voice-returned her call.
"Greetings lovely one." He said sweetly, his crimson eyes showing his delight in the confirmation that she-was a girl. Females were great-for a few things. He started to back down the tree-his muscles rippling in his efforts.
"And what would a lovely lady such as ye' be doing down here by herself? Shouldn't you have a mate at your side at all times?"

Leru blinked slightly at that... eyeing the other as he came down the tree. She picked up her prey and trotted a bit closer, smiling. Anyone who was that flattering... couldn't really be dangerous, right?
"Greetings to you as well," she half-purred with a little bob of her head. "I was out hunting... and now I have caught my dinner." She flicked her tail toward the hare, tongue flicking out to lick a bit of blood off her maw.
"As for a mate... I don't have one. I'm traveling with a group of others just now. What about you?"

Sehkmet admired a female who could hunt for herself and was not reliant on others for her food. A good sign indeed-that she was independent and not tied with strings. He smiled his sly-handsome smile and saundered up to her. He lowered his head to take in the smell of the rabbit-a healthy specimen as well. He smiled and was impressed thourally now. "Indeed a wonderful dinner for such a lovely lady as yourself." He said smoothly.
A party that traveled... how interesting. He himself was a loner as it was-but sometimes he felt the same urge to pass on his genes-considering his next meal may include a quick beheading or broken bone. "I am a loner... I have no family and no friends really. I rely on the african sky and earth to feed me and keep me company-" Keep feeding her the mushy romantic crap and sure to win we are. '-otherwise the occasional meeting with something as lovely as yourself keeps me full for days."

Leru blinked and then smiled and flushed slightly at his compliment. "Thank you," she said softly. "I like having ... a family of sorts, but I can also see how others might prefer to walk their path alone."
Her reply was sincere, and not really an attempt to flirt or anything of the sort.
Tilting head a little, she eyed the male. "Would you, perhaps, like to share my dinner?"

Sekhmet could almost taste the lies on his tongue-his lovely little tone and his sweet attitude. He smiled to her and bowed his head deeply, tucking a paw to his chest. He then stood and sat comfortably, his tail wrapping around him. She traveled with others-odd... he would find that life to crowded and uncomfortable. He chuckled and clicked his teeth. "I don't want to take your dinner dear... I ate not long ago-and don't want to take your hard earned prize!"
He looked to her rabbit. He liked his prey partially rotten himself but that was just one of his little perks. When he did catch something and killed it himself, he usually let it sit out in the sun for a while before he attempted to even touch it.
"But I will gladly keep you company as you enjoy your meal... if that is alright with you. "

"Of course it's all right," Leru purred quickly and leaned down to start eating, taking small delicate bites of her prey.
Mm... it was good, and she smiled, then glanced up at the male.
There was something a bit odd about him, but she wasn't one to judge, and she swallowed before asking, "What do you like to do?"

Sekh wasn't sure how to respond to her question. He liked to do-well.. did he liked to do anything. Quick-think of something to say. He bit his lip, sitting back on his hind paws and tucking his front ones against his chest. "I like to do the usual things-but I really like to-" He paused. "-well don't laugh-but I like to watch the birds." He said, looking upwards. Good cover. He pointed up with his paw in the general direction of some trees. "I like to watch them twitter around and make their bird noises. Course-I eat them sometimes but... It is enjoyable to watch them like that."
He sighed. "I like watching them with their offspring-those little naked chicks that slowly grow feathers. I like to see them when they are just about old enough to get out of their stick nests-" He waved his paw around again with a grin. "Seeing them all half naked and trying to act like their parents makes me want to raise a group of them myself." He reached up and rubbed his nose with his paw. "Course, without the awkward half-naked-just-grown-in-feather stage of life."
Gawd. He only enjoyed eating the birds honestly.

Leru somehow found herself drawn in by his words, leaning forward a little to listen to him - meal forgotten for the moment.
She didn't really sense any deception in his tone or manner and she smiled at the description of the little baby birds.
"Yes... I have to admit the stage without feathers is just... weird. I've seen some little ones myself - though the parents were quick to come and chase me off!"

Sekh nodded to her words for they were very true. He had the scars to prove it. Though the scars were jagged across his face and might make others rather embarassed about them-he wore them proudly. Though he would not tell her that he received them by fighting with others and the large one across his nose from a fight with a lion for eatting rights. "Aye, being observant sometimes results in lovely little scars like mine!" He lifted his chin and rotated his head so that she could see the full extent of them. He then lowered his face and ran his white nose across his paw for a moment. "Lots of critters don't like it when you look at their babies or get curious... I guess that is a doomed personality trait I have..."
He flicked his striped back leg at a bug-turning to snort at it before settling down again. "I rather like the babies of a lot of animals out there!" His ears twitched as he grinned. He rather liked them when dead-but again-that was not to be spoken aloud. "Baby animals are usually the best for watching... their antics!"
