Awen Zyn came from a rich family and was always used to luxuries. She was an only child and liked to spend time with her parents. She seemed to always be an outgoing girl ready for something new and someone new everyday. As a young girl, Awen always loved to go out to her and her seaside cottage with her family. They always went out on weekends in the summer and even on holidays in the winter.

One day, when Awen was seven years old, her parents had been on a boat ride when a large tropical storm swooped in. They never returned, and after many search boats were sent out to no avail, her parents were pronounced dead.

After that Awen lost her fire. She never returned to the cottage though kept the property in the family, just in case her parents ever... But she grew up, becoming more and more secluded and she since developed a case of hydrophobia. No oceans, no lakes, rivers, swimming pools... It came to the point where she could hardly stand to take a shower.

Awen finally decided to put an end to it. She came to the island under the impression it was a therapy resort. Of course... she had to pay a small fortune to get in because the therapy is with the best educated professionals on an individual basis. She believes everyone she meets on the island, save for staff members, would have some sort of phobia or condition needed to be treated. She hated having to take such extreme measures but before she went to university she wanted a fresh start. She would get rid of this fear and put her parents to rest finally.

However she was worried because as part of the therapy she was informed they were going to be using experimental drugs to help her cope. She was afraid of needles....but she resolved this is where she would get a fresh start.

(First Impressions)

User Image Dr. Moreau- the head of the Island. He seems to be a little too professional really for Awen's tastes. He runs a therapy resort yet he doesn't seem to be very personable. However he was very reassuring and sincere, or at least seemed to be. She really admires his work though ifor one as relatively young as him, he has accomplished a lot.

User Image Colche- A strange girl seemingly covered in cheeta print tattoos. She's really quiet and sort of strange. Awen hasn't been able to figure out what her exact problem is that she needed to be on the island, but there was something definately off with that girl. She's nice enough though... The first person besides the doctor she's met on the island.

User Image Pyrtoh- A strange man who seemed to be very nice at first. Awen pushed the wrong buttons with him because in no time he was growling and seeming very angry with her. She feels really bad because she knows the first impression just went horribly wrong. He means well... she just has to go an apologise.

User Image Amaya- A really sweet girl. She was the one that explained to Awen what was really happening on the island. She is also an orphan, though a few years younger. Awen has invited her over for video games whenever she wants to play. A good friendship is probably on hte horizon with Amaya.

User Image Hargun- She was only met briefly. Awen's honestly not sure what to think of this one, she seems nice enough anyway. She seems sort of calm and collected at least she was good enough to figure out if Awen knew about the island's true purpose or not before mentioning anything. Still Awen wished she would have let her at least pretend that the island was normal for a little more than she did.

User ImageLauren-She was the only one that was actually fully human, like Awen! She seems nice honestly. She's pretty strong, she took down a guy called "the Dude"..uh whoever he is... She didn't really look like she was afraid of the island at all, she wasactually pretty happy. Awen admires her already, her spirit shows through in what she says and does. She seemsfirm in her beliefs, which is a good thing but Awen doesn't think she's unwavering if presented with logical evidence....

User ImageIan- This guy is really neat. Ian is so great for helping Awen think possitively. He thinks a lot of others, stresses and worries about what the Doctor is doing to them.... he never even notices he makes people smile. Awen knows she just met him alone and all, but he feels like the kind of guy that could make you smile no matter what. You know those people that just radiate happiness?

User ImageEmerwyn- A kind of shy quiet girl. She did seem to be comforting though when Awen felt terribly embarrassed. She likes books.... and seemed to like to be left alone, or at least in smaller groups.

User ImageEmelyn- She seems to like animals and their comforting qualities. She knows exactly what she's turning into, and doesn't seem to mind all that much. She was trying to keep Jamal from knowing what happened the first time Awen met her. She too cared not to hurt him... Awen admired it.

User ImageJamal- At first the big guy seems to be a freighting fellow. He carries himself with an arrogance Awen had only seen a few times before. He seemed to think of himself as something of a player, as he was hitting on Emerwyn and Emelyn as soon as he walked in. But not Awen... Once she shared her video games and schooled him in the ways of Resident Evil though, he seemed to at least be more friendly. He seems like a decent guy, a bit full of himself maybe.

User ImageTimothy- A strange guy Awen met out by the cliffs. She only talked with him briefly before sadly running away from the ocean. But he seemed to be a really great singer but maybe a tortured soul with his lyrics. He sang a little blurb about Awen, it was really nice actually.

User ImageJulian-A nice and sweet enough guy as far as Awen can figure. He seems really shy but polite enough. He has the most adorable smile. But something isn't right with him. A devious, cunning side of him... Cheshire. An alternate personality maybe...?

User ImageSabin-He feels almost predatory and makes Awen's skin crawl a little bit, but really he's not so bad. Honestly at the same time as he was calculating he was fasinating and rather gentle. He did make Awen feel a bit better about some things. He's weird but.... nice. Awen would like to see him again, maybe find out more..

User ImageAmbrose-Only seen briefly he seemed nice. Appeared with Emelyn so they must be...together. He was the one Sabin had said was turning into a wolf. That's not so bad...wolves are noble creatures and he shows it through and through.

User ImageThe Dude-Somewhat charming but obviously with an aquatic inhis transformation. Awen thinks he's nice enough, but fears him for the sole fact he embodies everything she fears turning into. He has flippers.... But he was a nice dancer.

User ImageJoliette-A girl that Awen, quite honestly, knows little about. She thought the island was a group of actors and Hargun and Ambrose were wearing costumes. Feeling enraged and sorry for the girl Awen yelled at the others for lying to her. This, unfortunately, meant Awen did not leave a good impression on the girl.... apologising might be nice

User ImageFather Young-A priest apparently, thinking he's on a missionary thing. Awen pulled him away when Hargun and Ambrose showed up. He thought they were possessed by demons or something... Awen never really got a proper talk with him and she felt he didn't really believe her in the end.... Oh well.

User ImageKim-A gamer! Finally another great gamer on the island! Even more so than Awen it seems. But still another girl gamer, Awen has only met a few serious girl gamers in her life. Kim is Awen's neighbour, right above. All night gaming sessions...challenges....here we come!

User ImageChubbs- An extrodinary person. Awen's first thought is that he was a big Teddy Bear. He really just wanted people to be happy. Came to the island to help a bunch of kids get a gym. He's big and could be scary, if he didn't blush at the drop of a hat. He's a nice guy though...

Ray-She seems really nice. At first appearing a little intimidating and scary in her black outfit and composure Ray ended up being extremtly nice. She's supposed to teach Awen a little more about her religion sometime.

Antony- At first she seemed like a nice girl that Awen met when she woke up on the beach. After they talked for a little while Antony's attitude and views start conflicting with Awen's own. All of this escalates and crashes when Antony says she has beeing sleeping with Jamal. That b***h.

Rex- A newcomer of the island who entered during the big storm. He seemed nice with a noble heart. He was curious of how the island worked and seemed too accepting to the fact that he would change, when and if Moreau got back. But he seemed very selfless when he tramped back into the wood and rain to find the one he went overboard with.

Avery- Awen likes this guy, he's really nice and bouncy. He was a little fidgity with Awen's appearence at first but soon he was ready to even share a bed with Awen. Not in any suggestive way. Just a bed to get out of the woods. He even took a pair of Awen's pyjamas.... and made the manta grin with thoughts of him Rex...and Awen.

Billy- A sleasy sort of man, as far as Awen can tell. He wasn't overly rude or mean or anything, but something about this man creeped her out. He stole Awen's water bottle and tried to take Antony's cig, he didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with it but. Whatever. He gives Awen a bad vibe...

Zach- A strange one armed man that Awen scared half to death. She felt horrible for doing so, but she had a strange vibe off of this guy. He didn't seemed too friendly, even when Awen was trying to be. It's not a terribly bad feeling she gets from him, just one saying he would wish to be left alone.

Aubrey- From what Awen was concious of meeting her for Aubrey seemed really nice. She was staff, for sure, but she never had the predatory look of Sabin or the rude formal manner of Moreau. He was very motherly and probably saved Awen's life.

Chert- A big ugy, he seemed like he would be a nice guy, were he not freaking out at the changed islanders around him. Antony seemed to have an understanding and know how to handle the guy, which was good because with Awen injured she wouldn't be able to handle this guy. He stormed off towards the labs...Awen hopes he'll be okay[

Fiona- A spunky red head who is trying to escape from the island. Why did Awen have to be the one to run into her so soon? She didn't want to believe Awen that there isn't an escape, and Awen didn't want to have to tell her. But she seems really nice. She could make a good friend.

Annie- A girl that came to the island with Fiona. Appearently was dragged along to something with Fee, got caught and taken here with her friend. She seemed tired and sleepy.... probably just overwhelmed with everything. She seemed nice though.

Cassi- Someone who must have been here for a long time too. She has rainbow feathers and green scales. Awen met her as they watched Aubrey and Sabin fight in the arcade. Awen wished she would have had more time to talk to the woman, as she seemed interesting.

Ivy- A wonderfully excitable girl. She's taken to the island extremely well, and loves Awen's look. The girl is definately someone Awen would like to spend more time with. Just being around Ivy inspires smiles.

Alec- Technology-impaired. The first time Awen met the man he ripped cords from their sockets so Awen could untangle them...almost taking the wall with them. Otherwise, Awen likes him, a real nice guy and all..

Newt- A strange wirey fellow from the labs. He used to be a janitor of somesort, but now is out and about on the island. He thinks he's been promoted, but whatever he had done to raise Moreau's ire enough to send him down here.... must have been bad.

Nathan- Awen only met him briefly as they were goin to play poker with Alec. He seems like a decent guy, kind of new and is still getting used to everything, but that's how all new people are, right?

Thom- A soccor player that seems to have a short temper. Or maybe it was because he had just changed? Awen wasn't entirely sure. Still, aside from being a little annoyed that he couldn't kick the ball as well as he used to he seems like a nice guy.

Cody- A kid. When Awen says kid, she means kid. He's turning into a dolphin, appearently, to get rid of his MS. Awen wasn't very pleased to hear that the labs were taking on children now, but she didn't know what else to do. The kid seems happy on the island, maybe the reality of never leaving hasn't hit him yet? Probably not... or at least he hides it well.

Nita- She seems like a nice girl. Awen thought she had seen her briefly before, maybe at Fee's party? But the first time she really met the orange fur and haired girl a new islander was talknig about making a pelt out of her fur. The poor dear.

Maryke- In a word? Classy. She seems to be extremely nice and understanding, and that cool calculating exterior was refreshing. Sure she spazzed out and tried to call her lawyer when she first heard, but after that she listened intently to everything said and was terribly calm. Awen likes her, she's....interesting.

Shenzi-

Rachel- She seemed to be new to the island, and quite skittish about the changes that the islanders were going through. She had given Aw quite the odd looks and it seemed like she was really worried about what was to come. All in all a typical new comers reaction.

MANTA

Order: Myliobatiformes
Family: Mobulidae
Genus: Manta
Species: birostris

User Image

Distinctive Features
Adults are easily recognized by their large triangular pectoral fins and projecting cephalic fins, forward extensions of the pectoral fins that project anteriorly on either side of the head. Each cephalic fin is about twice as long as its base is wide. The length of each cephalic lobe, from tip to the mouth, is 14% of the disc width. They are rolled like spirals when swimming and flattened when eating. This ray has smooth skin, a broad, rectangular terminal mouth located at the front of the head, and a tail that lacks a spine.
User Image
Colour: variable, ranging from black, greyish blue, to greenish or reddish brown above (black colour morph sometimes with whitish, triangular shoulder patches), and nearly black, white with various degrees of greyish blotching (the precise pattern of blotching has been used to identify individuals), to almost pure white below; one albino specimen has been reported.
Habitat: occurs most often in nearshore waters (mainly over continental and insular shelves, but occasionally over deep water), near coral and rocky reefs; swim by flapping their large pectoral fins and are usually encountered near the surface or mid-waters of lagoons or seaward reefs, particularly near surge channels; in Australian waters, mantas sometimes migrate into temperate waters; they are capable of rapid speed and juveniles sometimes leap well clear of the water, landing with a loud slap (adults drive their bodies only partway out of the water and then fall back into the sea, sometimes perfoming 2 or 3 of these jumps in sucession); often host to one or more discfishes (especially the remora, Remorina albescens) and sometimes observed in association with dolphins, seabirds, sharks, and other rays (notably the spotted eagle ray, Aetobatus narinari); these rays actively seek the services of cleaner wrasses (Labroides spp.), often hanging over or swimming near "cleaning stations", sometimes several lining up to wait their turn.

Feeding: a gigantic filter-feeder, preying on planktonic crustaceans and small schooling bony fishes; filtering mechanism consists of transverse plates of pinkish-brown spongy tissue that bridge the gaps between successive gill bars (cartilaginous skeletal elements that support the gills); when feeding, the cephalic lobes are unfurled and spread (directing and somestimes apparently scooping plankton-bearing water into the mouth), the animal often swimming in slow somersaults (vertical loops) that are repeated over and over (this behaviour may keep the rays within a patch of particularly rich feeding, and may also concentrate planktonic prey to facilitate feeding); most often encountered as solitary individuals, but members of this species often aggregate in regions offering predictably rich feeding (such as off the Kona Surf Hotel at night and off Yap, in the western Caroline Islands) -- with up to 50 individuals clustered in the same general area, but not forming true schools.

User Image Predators
Due to their size, the only predators of the manta ray are large sharks.

Progress Report:

Transformation 1: Awen has small patches of rubber-like grey skin across her body. A long thin tail has formed and she has what appear to be horns forming on the top of her head. Gills are also a prime feature. Awen has a rather large desire to go for a swim.... but she is terrified of that herself. Fish in the cafeteria she will now eat.

Transformation 2: Awen's body is now all pale with a greyish tinge. It is feels rubber and looks shiney most of the time. If she's out of the water too long the skin gets cracked, dry and starts flaking off. Her main diet is fish and fishsticks now, but still enjoys pancakes and chocolate cake and all that other good stuff. Gills are more developed and she can breathe underwater. Note: Stay away from salt water!

The meaning behind Awen's name ((Things I never knew))
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Awen is a Welsh word historically used to describe the divine inspiration of gifted bards in Welsh legend, and sometimes ascribed to musicians and poets today. The British Druid Order notes that "[t]he first recorded reference to Awen occurs in Nennius' Historia Brittonum, a Latin text of circa 796 CE, based on earlier writings by the Welsh monk, Gildas." [1] This source also describes the etymology of the term:

The feminine noun, Awen, has been variously translated as 'inspiration', 'muse', 'genius', or even 'poetic frenzy'.
'Awen'derives from the indo-european root *- uel, meaning 'to blow', and is the same root as the Welsh word 'Awel' meaning 'breeze'. Awen is the breath of inspiration, wind of the spirit,or breath of the divine which gives inspiration. There is a parallel word to 'awen' in Irish, 'ai', also meaning 'poetic inspiration' which derives from the same ancient root.

Awen had been stairing at her feet the whole flight. Thankfully there was only a few minutes more until they were going to land. She didn't mind flying, in fact she used to love flying with her parents when she was younger, but this particular flight was absolute hell to her. She had to fly over the ocean. Her stomach was in knots from the moment they took off, she was near panicing within fifteen minutes. She resolved herself not to look out any windows and just pretend she was over land.
Sadly to say her plan hadn't worked all that well. With nothing but the sounds of the helicopter around her mind started to wander to outside the cabin. She couldn't let it. Looking up at the back of the pilots head she decided to try to talk, it would help pass the time and keep her mind off things. She tilted her head back down to her shoes and started to talk. She was speaking randomly about anything that came to mind and raced through the convorsation. She spoke so fast she would hardly let the pilot get a word in edge wise. She just needed to talk, she always talked too much when she was nervous and she didn't have the patience to listen.
She was talking about her friend Jon for awhile. How he saw her off and how they switched up the pictures of eachother. She ended up with her own mug shot instead of his.... She was telling the pilot about how he was the one who finally convinced Awen to go and get better on the is.. on the island and explained why she was going to this therapy island anyway. Briefly she touched on how it cost her an arm and a leg to actually get a place on the island and laughed when she said good help doesn't come cheap really.
But finally they were landing. She could be back on dry land again. When they landed she took a breath and stepped out. She turned back to the pilot and gave an ebarassed smile.
"I'm sorry, I hope I didn't bore you too much...."

"Not a problem Ms. Zyn." James said as he was thankful they were approaching the island.

As it came into view through the window you could see the large mountain and the mansion resting on the cliff side... the lab facilties obscured by the tall jungle foliage. It was truely a beautiful sight.

The helicopter slowed down and landed on top of a large Helipad marked H "This is it Ms. Zyn, good luck, I hope you enjoy your time here."

Forever that is. James didn't want to brood too much over this, as the helicopter was ready to take off the second you stepped out with your stuff as well.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:31 am

"Thanks a lot I'll try to anyway!" She waved a little smiling at the pilot as she stepped out of the helicopter with her bags. He really was a nice guy...
Awen looked to the jungle and breathed in deeply. The first day, the first step to freedom of this stupid phobia. She smiled softly thinking how this was really a beautiful place. She could just try to ignore the fact they were surrounded...by.... She took a dee pbreath and stopped that thought before it got too far. She would just keep her mind off where they were exactly. They were on dry land, that's what mattered.
After admiring the scenery she started to wonder where she was supposed to go now. She stepped forwards abit dragging along her bags.
"Well... I saw some buildings that way..." She mumbled to herself. "Am I just supposed to walk there and find someone there? I thought someone was supposed to meet...?" Her stomach flipped a little again.
Surely they wouldn't just let new patients wander the island alone when they first got there. Awen decided to wait a little bit before she started walking. Maybe they were just..behind schedule? She looked around at the jungle before her again wondering what kinds of animals were kept on the island. They wouldn't have dangerous things in the trees would they? Suddenly Awen wished that she was back on mainland with her friends. not stuck out in the middle of nowhere alone.

Doctor Moreau
Captain

PostPosted: Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:37 am

Even as those thoghts were crossing your mind a van pulled up. Out of the van stepped a man in a white lab coat with red hair. He was fairly attractive, for a man who was late 20s/early 30s.

"Welcome to our Island Ms. Zyn..." he nodded his head from the van. "If you'll just get in I'll drive you to our facilities and we can get you your first treatment, and get you a duplex to sleep in."
PostPosted: Mon Oct 10, 2005 9:47 am

She smiled again almost instantly seeing the man. "You must be Doctor Moreau?" She asked as she carried her bags over to the van. "I recognised your voice from the phone."
After placing her bags in the van she brushed a bit of her hair from her eyes and got a better look at the Doctor. "Um... If you don't mind all that much just call me Awen. I never was one for formalities really."
She slid herself into a seat in the van and took a deep breath. She was surprised at how young the doctor was. Any specialist of value awen had come across so far had been quite old, at the very least forty. It was really refreshing to see someone less than twice her age actually taking an interest in helping people, and supposedly competent enough to do it.
She blushed a little bit when she realised she was inadvertantly een staring at the doctor. It wasn't as though she was staring for ay particular reason, she was admiring his work really and besides she was just happy to be on hte island and finally going to get the help she needed. She averted her eyes to look out the window.
