If you're looking for something fresh to read, how do you find it? Word of mouth? The "coming next" ad in the back of the book you just finished? What?

For example, I read through the book reviews of professional magazines like Booklist and Publisher's Weekly (then I have to wait two months sometimes until the books are actually published.)

I try to keep up with websites and little advertisements in the back of the ones I do read for upcoming releases. Mostly my book store, Barnes and Noble, will say what books are big hits, though I tend to stray away from what's popular.

LibraryThing and Amazon have been great for recommendations. But in my opinion, nothing beats going to a bookstore or library and just searching for new things on your own.

Mostly it's word of mouth or the internet, but Nick'y got it right. Browsing store and libraries is the best.

I always tend to go to the bookstore and browse the shelves, looking for a title or author that catches my attention. Sometimes I have a particular book or author in mind, and I will look through the nearby shelves. Usually I just wander about and pick up anything interesting.

Three ways:

1) I go to the library and look in the "New Releases" shelf.
2) I look up Oprah's picks, because they're always good.
3) My mom and my sister. They read, (but not like I do xd ), and they pass books that they thinks I'd like over to me, and I do the same with them.

Usually through a friend's recommendations or I just browse my favorite sections of the book store and look for new stuff.

Word-of-mouth with from users on the Internet or real life friends, ads in the back of other books, and just plain browsing

Internet, friends, bookstores, word of mouth, stuff like that.

I browse on book stores and see what I like. Sometimes I'll see the bestsellers in the internet then find out about it, then if i really like it I go to different bookstores to hunt for it.

The Amazon.com recommendations have shown me some good ones, but usually I just find new books by browsing my local bookstores. The best ones, though, come from my area's yearly used book sale (next weekend, yes!).

It's either browsing the bookstore/library or a friend's recommendation. But in my opinion I like the browsing best.

Mostly I just walk into the library and browse the selves. The rest of the time it's word of mouth, something my mom or one of my friends recommends.
