Under the blazing western sun, the snow leopard Alpha slipped out of the oasis shallows and shook off the excess water before padding over to lie in the shade of a tree. The mid-day heat made this time best spent by resting and keeping oneself cool. Especially for the female who was more used to cold weather.
Still, all-in-all, this land was better than the harsh northern lands. She'd learned to deal with the heat.
Stretching with a yawn, the Alpha kept her senses trained on her surroundings. The afternoon was a wonderful time for a nap, but even being an Alpha didn't keep her immune from attack. She wondered for a moment what her pack member and companion, Giselle, might be doing right now, but had faith that she'd see her again sooner or later. She was still a young one in Soyala's mind, even if her body indicated otherwise. A little wandering wouldn't do her any harm, and might even be good for her.
Still, the Alpha missed her new companion, though she'd never admit it aloud.

Solai had been wandering through the barren lands of the West for days. For a long time all she had seen were dry grasses; in the mornings she had to lick the dew off of them because there had been no watering holes in sight! The sun beat down on her back and she suddenly wished she had been born in a more hospitable territory. She grumbled to herself as she slinked through the dry grass, trying to avoid the sun by pressing herself to the ground.
Suddenly her heart gave a leap as she saw a large dark shape. Shade! she thought happily as she raced through the dry grass.

Tail twitching slightly in the dust, the Alpha that seemed to be dozing opened one eye to track the now swiftly moving shape headed her way. Her ears swiveled to track the rushing sound of the other racing through the tall grasses. The lack of hoofbeats on dry earth led her to believe it was paws...perhaps another Helix?
Giselle maybe? She sniffed the air hesitantly. No, not her pack mate, but definitely another Helix. Female, from the scent. Young.
Soyala half-rose to a sitting position, tail curling around her haunches so that only the tip flicked upwards from time to time. While few Helixes would attack an Alpha, let alone without cause, she was ready for anything nonetheless. At the same time, there was no reason not to be polite or social.
