User ImageWell the day was turning out to be a brisk one as a Usdia walked somewhat quick beside his human while trying to balance a basket on his back. It wasn't too easy when his human hadn't tightened the straps under his belly. Rolling his offset colored eyes Daytona stopped again as his human came to another berry patch and started picking the ripened berries and tossing them into the basket. He did so wish that they were done already, he missed the warmth of the fire in their teepee.

"Almost done there Tony." Said a young native female, her dusty colored hair pulled back into a short braid, the rest hanging like a ponytail. She was dressed in warm white clothing and hands gloved with deer hide. Nadi she was called by her people, Nadi had come across Daytona while he was a foal and nurtured him back to health and has clung to her ever since. Dark almond eyes looked the bush over before looking back at the gray and black pont that stood beside her. "What do you think? Think we have enough?" She asked the pony whom only looked at her oddly. "That's what I thought, that would only last the night. Come on, best keep looking." Nadi sighed walking again looking for more berry bushes and other fruits she could collect for their stores.

May Horses Roam Where Dragons Fear to fly...

User Image*In the traditional garb of her people Tewa moved about the woods, The soft doe hide barely felt upon the light colored femme as she would kneel and grab from the earth branch after branch settling each branch into a hand woven basket, made just big enough to carry. Attached to the sides of the basket, looping through the weaving of the dark colored wooden strips, where two very thick and very strong straps of leather. They were woven into the basket in such a way that this particular basket could be used much in the fashion of a back pack, to help ease the labor of the day.*

"That should do it."

*She said as she carefully placed the last thick branch in a pile that she had made and then began to bind up the wood, once done with that she grabbed the wood by the bindings and set it on it's side into the basket she had brought. With a slight reluctant look at the rather stuffed basket, she turned her back to the thing, and squatted down into position.

Once in position she grabbed the two, long, straps and pull them over her shoulder, then around her back and then back to the front of her belly. Skillfully she held the straps of leather carefully as she began to stand.

it was with a loud grunt that she stood up again, the weight of the basket shifting just a bit. Grasping onto a tree near here she adjusted the bindings accordingly, then tied the straps firmly in preparation for her hike up the trail towards the hill, and her and her brothers home.

It was unfortunate that she had wandered so far from home, for this was a heavy load to carry, but she knew, from having done such many a time before, that she could do it again.

....

About 30 minutes into the walk her belly started to complain. It was at this discomforting sound that she recalled the bread and apples she had left behind down the hill amongst the woods. Unfortunately she was pretty certain that had she returned they meal would no longer be there so all she could do was continue up the off beaten path that lead to her home.

It was funny, she had lived amongst these people, her people, all her life, yet she knew none of them, and knew none of them knew her. Still she knew the woods well enough to know how to get to her home, where the best tree fruits and berries where, and the trails of most of the animals, including the soquili's and the usdia's.

Oh well, what an odd thought to have while heading home away from where most of the people of her nation lived. Why her brother had choosen to live in such a desolate place she wasn't certain, but she wouldn't begrudge the only individual she'd known since her parents death, besides, she loved him dearly. He took care of her since she was 6, and was good to her. He was after all her older brother.

These and many other thoughts wandered through her day dreaming mind while she continued on her days chore unaware of any that might be in the nearby woods.*

And may you find me at the end waiting for you.

Daytona was quite happy following his human around, but something caught his attention. A leaf, it's stem snapped from its place on the branches above and fluttered down. Duel colored eyes watched the leaf as it twisted and twitched until a breeze picking it up again before ever touching the ground. Ears twitching atop his head and braided tail swinging behind his flank. The gray and black dappled stallion trotted uncaringly after the leaf. Not even the calls of his human could break his trance of the leaf. He watched it ever closely, as it twisted and turned. He himself doing the same at times as the basket wobbled on his back.

"Oh come back here!" Daytona shouted at the leaf that came to human ears as a loud nicker. "Come back..."

The leave was blown higher, faster away from his grasp, his reach. Black hooves pounding the ground now, his eyes fixed upwards and not at his surroundings. Behind him, the soft patters of his human trying to catch up to him. The leave finally came back to the earth as the wind left it and Daytona now looks around and comes close to running into someone. The abrupt stop made the basket on his back topple and the food spill onto the ground. Sides heaving a bit, he looked at this stranger who carried sticks upon their back, before looking back at his own panting and frustrated looking human. All he could do was give the expression of... 'What?'

Nadi had run after her wayward pony until he came to a stop as whatever he had been chasing stopped as well. She could only wonder what the boy had been chasing, then again he was often doing such things. Shaking her head, she looked at the food they had gathered that was now on the ground and their basket over turned. Perhaps she should have strapped it to him so it wouldn't have fallen off or lost its cargo.

"Tony, what do you think you were doing?" she asked the pony before stepping over to pick up the basket and looked at one that Daytona had almost run into. "Oh!" she looked at the stranger a little startled before crouching down to gather what was spilled. "Sorry if this big lug had frightened you. I have no idea what got into him." All the while she busied herself with picking up the berries. Not quite wanting to look up.. Just yet.

May Horses Roam Where Dragons Fear to fly...

*It was the sound of hooves clashing against the ground, a sound likened to thunder, that caught her attention as it got louder and louder. She barely had time to turn and see the beast that had thought to charge her. It was instinctive, the pull of her blade as she turned in self defense almost loosing her balance due to the basket upon her own back. The dagger was held out before her as legs braced against what she thought would be the impact from a large beast. Instead what she saw made her feel foolish.

Stepping off to the side, just away from his line of charge, while re-sheathing her dagger she watched as the beautiful, gray spotted, usdia came to a halt directly before her, almost in arms reach. Like the pony before her she stared for a moment her eyes, a gentle blue locking with his.

He seemed, to her, as startled to see her as she was him, though she couldn't say why, her scent as far as she knew should be all over this path, for she'd traveled it enough times, and she knew animals well enough to know they relied on senses much more than a human did. Those blues of hers ran over his form and she noticed the basket, toppled over and the stuff that had fallen to the ground. It was becoming quickly apparent to her that he belonged to someone, and as such they should be coming shortly to retrieve him and the goods he'd lost to the ground.

Time lingered for a moment longer, and she she finally spoke, a smile coming to her lips as she did so.*

"Hello..."

*Not stepping forward but not yet ready to step back she opened her mouth to say one more thing when anthers voice interrupted her thoughts and drew her attention away from the pony's face to the one that had come from behind the horse to it's side and had begun to pick up the mess. Then the female noticed her and began to speak to her, she wasn't sure what to do really, she wasn't much of a people person, having lived alone with only her brother to fend for her so many years.*

"It's fine."

*Was all she could think to say. The funny thing was it wasn't the pony that had startled her as much as the girl did, and for one quick on reading body language they'd see that in her as she stepped back for a moment, in thought as she watched, finally she choose to act.

Uncomfortable or not with the prospect of speaking to a stranger, she wasn't rude, if anything she was a very kind spirited individual, and this female looked like she needed help. Lowering down she untied the basket that was tied to her and set it firmly upon the earth. Then she moved forward and began to help pick up the stuff that had fallen. No more did she speak as she did this, all the while nervious, but trying not to let it show.

Each piece of fruit was picked up carefully and held in the skirt of her clothing, when done she stood up and waited, assuming that since the pony was this strangers, that she'd be the one to fix the basket on his back. A quick registry of the basket and it's position told her that it was the lack of a properly cinched binding that had allowed the basket to fall, though the racing pony probably hadn't helped any.

Finally she spoke again, a smile offered this time to the stranger before her.*

"I think you need to cinch up the binds a bit more, if you wait for him to relax to the load it should be easier to do?"

*She said offering a bit of help, not sure the woman needed it really, but feeling the need to offer it, just so she could break the silence.*

And may you find me at the end waiting for you.

"I normally don't have to worry about strapping to tightly to his back as he's never really run off on me before." Nadi explained as she looked up at the stranger and held out the basket to get her food back that they had gathered for her. "Tony tends to just remain at my side, I don't know what got into him this time."

Nadi watched Tony as he had wandered around the path a bit before coming back over to nudge her. Though she gave a glare to the stallion, he didn't seem to care much for it. He had been having fun until nearly running someone down that happened to get into his path. Shaking her head, Nadi set the basket down and started petting his nuzzle.

"What did get into you Tony?" Nadi asked as if he would answer.

Daytona wandered about the humans, sniffing at the strangers basket of sticks, wondering what she wanted them for, but remembered that his own used them to keep him and herself warm at night. Moving on he watched the two humans with mismatched eyes before nudging Nadi from behind. Ears flicking a bit at her supposed question to him, he looked around.

Where was that little bugger he had chased all this way? Stepping back from his human and scowering the ground, he found the leaf he had been looking for. Liping at it he caught the stem and picked it up off the ground before depositing it into his human's hands. Soon giving the expression, 'that is what it was'.

Nadi watched Daytona as he wandered around before coming back and dropping a leaf within her hands. A leaf? What's what had spurred him into charging off without her even taking off their food basket? Shaking her head, she watched tony carefully as if he were a bit crazy. She really didn't know what she was going to do with that pony. Perhaps when his sister came home he would be less... Spazzy and go after everything that floats in the air.

"You are a silly one Tony." She shook her head before picking up the basket and strapping it to his back. Tony gave a huff as it was placed back to where it had been, before easing off and it was bound tightly to him. "There, not it won't come of until we get back home." Nadi patted his flank just behind the basket leaving plenty of space for herself to ride him if she wanted.

"Pardon, all this talk and you don't even know who we are. My name's Nadi and this is Daytona. Though I call him Tony for short." She gestured to Tony who gave a sort of bow, though it wasn't very graceful. "We live a mile or so to the west of here, don't normally come this far for food, but it's getting the lean times and Tony here is always eating straight through our fruit stocks."

Tony gave a hurt look when he was accused of eating the stocks. Sure he would eat some, but not everything. A few apples here and a couple berries there... Ok, he did eat a good part of them, but not all at once. Snorting at Nadi, Tony turned away from her and stepped back the way he had come. Braided tail flicking a bit to brush against's Nadi's side.

May Horses Roam Where Dragons Fear to fly...

*She nodded, listening as the female spoke of never having to worry about the pony running off. She didn't know the situation really all she could do was go off of what she saw, and what she saw of this ponys actions indicated something a bit more free spirited than a labor animal.

As the female spoke to her of her confusion for the reason that the pony would act out of the ordinary she Lowered gently all the food she'd gathered into her skirt into the basket offered and nodded. Then watched with puzzlement as the the one she called Tony seemed to respond to what she was saying, as if it understood her.

What a strange pony. she thought to herself, though she had to admit the way they reacted to each other was even stranger yet adorable, not exactly like pet and owner but more like a mother and a child. It was an interesting bond to say the least.

Then she saw the strangest thing, as the pony wandered about and grabbed a leaf and dropped it in answer to the Nadi's question. Now she was fascinated. She'd seen from a distance Wild Soquili, and even wild Usdia, but she'd never seen them with a human, so seeing how they interacted at this moment blew her mind. She had to ask.*

He can understand you, Your Tony?

*She inquired looking at the beautiful pony, slightly envious of that kind of connection they shared. While she too was from the same tribe of people as Nadi, she was however not apart of their social circles. Not so much because she didn't want to be, but because of where her family, though small, lived.

It was more than 3 days walk from the village, and deep into the woods, hidden. She wasn't exactly sure why her parents had picked such a location, nor could she ask as they had both passed in her childhood to fever, leaving herself and her older brother alone.

In truth until about a year ago she'd not encountered anyone from the village or outside of it until she found one girl roughly her age, maybe a couple years older, in the dead of winter out in the snow collapsed of some strange sickness. Since then that girl, Aponi, has lived with her and her brother, as an adopted sister.

With all this in mind it was no wonder she found both the girl, Nadi, and the usdia, she called Tony, to be both a source of interest and curiousness, though she tended to be better with animals than humans, after all, living alone as she did for so long has that affect on an individual.

After hearing the predicament the girl was in concerning food, she felt bad, and decided to offer her own kind of help.

Since this mountain was her home she knew it well both the dangers, and the treasures it held. She had been taught at a young age how do discern the tracks left by the wild life, as well as where the best locations for certain things were, and so she thought she could help this girl out. It was the least she could do for causing the pony to knock out the fruit she had already gathered.*

If you are in need of fruits, I know this mountain well, and would gladly help you to some of the better locations, ones that are usually pretty safe of the skinwalkers, and the others of that ilk?

*It might not seem like much, but the fact that she mentioned skinwalkers so easily without the dread, said one of two things. she was either Naive, or had learned how to "handle" such situations when one would appear. One could never be too careful could they, when having to learn how to rough it alone?

As she spoke she lowered down and reharnessed her basket onto her back, tying it once again in the front.*

And may you find me at the end waiting for you.
