User ImageDry leaves rustled in the eves of the great forest. Autumn had pretty much passed, and the trees were all but bare of leaves. A chilly breeze was in the air and frost lingered in the dark shadows under rocks and between tree roots, ready to disappear at any time as the sun climbed higher up in the sky. Soft caramel eyes gazed at her surrondings, the mornings had gotten steadier colder and colder and she knew that soon enough, the forest was going to be empty, devoid of sound.

The unicorn blended into the leaves that lay on the ground but for her slim white hooves and flowing golden hair that recalled the golden sunshine of the summer long past. Well, it wasn't that Alianna really hated winter, it was just that it made the world feel so much more quiet and cold...so lonely. It made the woods seem so empty, as if she was the only one that dwelled in it. Even the birds and little animals would be silent, they would be looking around for food or else sleeping the winter away in their snug little holes. There would be no more time for singing as everyone had to survive through the bitter cold to be able to greet the coming spring. Then the earth would be alive again, reborn. But until then, there would be much suffering and bitter cold.

Alianna looked thoughtfully around. She ought to find something to occupy herself, it had been so bored and empty these days. Perhaps the real word she was looking was lonely, her son had gone away traveling as he usually did, exploring new lands and meeting new soquilis. She hadn't met that many soquilis though, only a few here and there, and even less that she guessed she could call friend. Well, she considered them friends but she wasn't so sure that they considered her the same.

A black feather, like that of a raven's peeked out of a pile of leaves. The brown soquili gazed at it solemly. Her vision was suddenly getting slightly blurry, Alianna gave a loud snort and shook her head. God, why can't I just stop thinking about it? I wish that I could just forget about it all...? Stupid, I really am stupid. This whole fiasco is all because of me. She sighed, what use was it always dwelling on such gloomy matters. No point at all, she answered herself. But why was it so hard to just drive it all out...? Memories, thoughts, feelings...why did they have to be so tormenting?

User ImageAcapello trudged heavily through the thinning forest. Here and there tree's were losing their leaves, making way for the inevitable frost that was soon to come. His hooves felt heavy as they struck the cold earth. Winter always made him feel down. He never really knew what it was, perhapes because everything died, the world went cold, and everyone was more concerned with what could happen to them than to have some fun. He snorted, disheartened. Winter was a time for hunkering down and waiting out three moons of your life. Acapello was tired of doing that, why waste three moons of his life just because it was cold.

Perhapes that would be his resolution for this winter, not to succumb to the gloomy nature and the frigid cold. A spray of water hit his underbelly as he splashed into a puddle. He winced, the water was cold as ice. Acapello fluffed up his wings and folded them into his sides, and laughed at himself. Already he was being grumpy and annoyed at the weather. It seemed innevetable that he would be miserable this winter again, so he may as well be happy about it.

As the wind picked up, Acapello saw a black feather fluttering on the breeze. He bounded forward, and snatched it out of the air. Laying it on the ground for further examination, he determined it must be a raven's feather. He removed his hoof from it, and watched it flutter away. There were feathers everywhere this time of year, why, he had even left some of his own behind surely. Acapello jumped slightly as he heard the snort, there was someone else nearby. He called out, his voice carrying on the brisk wind, "Hello?!"

Why couldn't she just forget about this and move on? After all, it was not use letting her mind dwell on such topics, it would just make the whole situation more worse than better. She sighed, no doubt he was more frustrated and tormented by these thoughts than she was. After all, he had a larger family and more soquilis to talk to...where as she, she was a kind of loner, no family around aside from her children. Yeah, it must be painful to him when he found out...Her ears flicked up slightly at the sudden sound. Hmmm...? Was that a 'hello'? Or was it just my ears playing tricks on me as usual? Perhaps too much time in the middle of the woods does cause random unfortunate illusions...

Alianna looked around rather curiously, could there be another soquili nearby? After a few moments, her eyes registered a figure not far from her. It appeared to be a soquili, though, at this distance and with the thickness of the woods, she could barely tell what type though. She approached the stranger wearily, calling back,"Hello?!" It would be good to meet somebody again, it was always nice to meet new friends especially after such long period of solitude. Soon enough, she had trotted out of the shadows of the trees and appeared before the strange soquili.

Acapello fought his way through the branches that tugged at his mane and tail. He heard the other call hello back, and recognized the voice belonging to a mare. He slashed through a thicket with his forelegs and emerged into a small clearing, surrounded by thick brambles. He hurridly tore the branches and leaves out of his mane and tail, and off of his coat. His mother had laways taught him to look presentable in front of a lady. Though with his luck, this would be a kalona or a skinwalker looking for her next meal. He blinked once, feelign a little stupid, when he saw the mare that emerged out of the tree's before him.

She was brown, and the sunlight shining though the thick canopy of leaves dappled her coat. Her blond hair was swept up into braids. The most interesting thing about her was the spiraled horn that protruded from her forehead. Acapello swore inwardly, Horse lords! A unicorn was standing in front of him. Acapello tried to grin, but felt it fall into a sort of half smile. He had met a unicorn only once before, a very long time ago. The meeting had been brief and hurried. He snapped out of his revere and said smoothly, "Good day my lady, my name is Acapello." He felt a droplet of sweat slide down his neck, and he twisted one hoof into the dirt, nervous. His eyes kept flickering back up to that sharp horn atop the mare's head.

As Alianna emerged quietly out of the web of branches, she gave a small gasp at the soquili before her. He was winged, but the stranger's wings seemed to be arranged curiously unliked his or her son's. Unlike theirs which seemed to be like bulky counterparts of ravens (since the most of the wind soquilis she ever came in contact had black wings), his seemed to be smaller, but strangely more graceful. Like those of an eagle's, or an angel's...could he be related to an angeni? She knew that pure angenis had two sets of wings, but still...his wings were beautiful, powerful...A slight jealously burned inside her heart. How much she would give to fly, fly far away into the clouds and leave all her troubles behind...

She blinked, rather surprised at the sudden remark. How long had she been staring at his wings? She was being really rude wasn't she, zoning out as usual. She light out a quiet sigh, too many days left alone. No wonder her mind could drift away so easily. She nodded her head in polite greeting as she said pleasantly,"Good day to you as well. My name is Alianna." The words ran strongly through her mouth, it had been quite a while since she had spoken this much...too much isolation. She flicked back to the present time again, this wasn't good, always letting her mind wander like this.

As Alianna looked at Acapello again, she noticed aside from his wings, he also had a deep ocean blue feather on his forehead, and his cream colored pelt was splattered with spots of blue. His sand colored mane fanned out majestically. But wait, what was that? Alianna's caramel brown eyes followed the trickle of sweat that slid down his neck. His whole body seemed to be tensed up, neverousness. His eyes kept on flicking to her horn. She bit her lip, could she have done something wrong to him? But what could that be? She pulled a faint smile uneasily to her face as she asked,"Ummm...is something about me troubling you? I could leave if you want...?" Though she herself didn't want him to leave, she had to consider his view of the matter. Forcing her company on to him wouldn't be very considerate.

Acapello prickled uncomfortably as he felt the unicorns gaze rake over his wings like a kalona's sharp talons. He fluttered them once, and tried to fold them in, lessening the spectacle of himself. Often others thought he was a special angeni, with his outstreached wings. Acapello was none of the sort though. He was one fourth angeni, but none of it really showed. His sister had the long leg hair of an angeni, but other than that nothing. He averted his gaze from the unicorns horn, and said polietly, "Hello Alianna, my name is Acapello."

The unicorn was not hard to look at though, with her golden swept up hair and light chocolate coat, with the white streaks running down her legs like those of a tiger. He cleared his throat, and wasn't quite sure where to look. Acapello felt that if he looked into those bronze eyes for too long he would lose himself.

He hurridly answered, "No no, I have just not met many unicorns in my day. That is all." He added tentitivly, "Please, don't...don't leave." He fought the urge to blush, but he was quite happy to have company. He had wandered for so long, alone in the bright day and pitch black night. Acapello didn't want to revert back to that. Though he sang alone, he disliked to be alone. He percieved from her tone and body movement that she really didn't want to leave, but he couldn't be sure.

Alianna blinked and struggled to keep the overwhelming joy off of her face. She had long since wanted some company and this was the perfect chance. Wandering alone in the woods with nothing but the birds and trees to keep one company wasn't quite as enjoyable as having the company of other soquilis. She smiled happily,"Well, I can't say that I haven't met many unicorns in my day, but I have always held a fascination for the winged." She paused, her eyes lighting up with joy and continued,"You are so lucky to have such beautiful wings yourself. You can soar like an eagle and are free to go where ever you please. Letting all your worries and trouble blo-" She stopped abuptly and blushed a light pink. She hoped that she hadn't spoken too much and had somehow offended the stallion.

"Sorry for blabbering on..." She said looking at the ground slightly embarrassed. Trying to keep a bit of jealously out of her voice, she continued,"I just think that it is amazing how the winds can fly in the sky...How I wouldn't give my horn for a pair of wings someday." She suddenly let out a pearl of laughter at her own silliness and smiled a bit sadly,"Tell me, what does it feel like when you fly?" Her eyes glimmered in anticipation, surely it must feel wonderful to have the wind blowing in your mane as you soared through the clouds. But, it was better to hear another's true account of it without any of her added on imagination.

Acapello was pleased that Alianna seemed happy for him to keep her company. For a unicorn, she really wasn't all that uptight. He shuffled a hoove in the dirt, causing a small cloud of dirt to puff up. He coughed, and smiled, his eyes slightly watering. He thought it strange that she thought he was so special. "But you have healing powers. I can only fly for myself, and no one else, but you." He looked at her with a special reverence, "You can help everyone in the world." Acapello was amazed, he would give anything to have the powers of the unicorn, if he could heal, then maybe, he could save someone else the sorrows that could be prevented.

He chuckled, and blew a lock of hair out of his eyes. "No need to apologize. And flying isn't all that special, lots of creatures in this world can. Kalonas, winds, flutters, all normal birds of every shape and size. But only unicorns can heal, no other creature can do that. Sure two leggers can, but they need powders and herbs and funny dances that couple with strange chants." He cocked his head. They were jeleous of each others abilities, wanting each others, when that would never be possible. "It is wonderful to be able to soar though the clouds though, its an amazing feeling. The power of my wings beating the air, hot thermals that I glide on, going higher, higher...higher..." A dreamy look appeared in his eyes just thinking about it.

"Healing powers?" A clear laugh like the sound of bells tinkled in the midst of the forest clearing. Alianna grinned, shaking her head ruefully at the thought,"No, my healing powers aren't that great. They aren't always effective anyhow...I haven't healed that many minor injuries let alone severe ones." She smiled softly, the laughter dying silently from her eyes, "I'm sure that if you had healing powers, you would make this world a better place." Because I can't. After all, it always seemed that she hurt others than heal them. How ironic, an unicorn who was bestowed with powers to help the world hurting the ones she was bound to protect.

She listened longingly to Acapello's account. She could just feel it, the thrill of flying...but,"I am really selfish." She sighed, chuckling slightly, "...Instead of using my healing powers to help everybody, I spend my time dwelling on my wish for flight. Wishing to feel that free wind in the air, flying so high that I could touch the sky... A sad smile spread on her lips as she said thoughtfully,"I really am selfish."
