 Chance ran across the field, hidden under the tall grass. His mother was a born huntress and she usually found him easily but today, he had made sure to keep his trail hidden. He knew his parents would be mad later on but he just had to leave, if only for a little while. His sivlings were always romping around and so loud. Sometimes, it'd be nice to have a moment of peaceful silence. He panted to a stop by a clump of flowers, laying down so that his head was resting near the edge. He thought they smelled nice and, wondering where their scent was coming from, proceeded to stick his nose in one.

 Makki was stretching her legs. She felt like she had been asleep for EVER. She started walking along the river, but soon veered off into a field at a run. She leapt up at a butterfly, snapping at it, but it fluttered out of her reach. Se landed in a cluster of flowers, sending pollen and grasshoppers everywhere. She didn't notice the boy who was smelling the flowers. She just stood, looking up at the butterfly. It was teasing her now. Makki frowned and jumped again to try and get it.

Chance was surprised when suddenly, another pup ran his way, chasing what looked like a butterfly above. She landed quite close to him and his head shrunk back, his nose wrinkled in a sneeze. The pup's attempt at catching it again didn't help either, since it sent a flurry of even more pollen. By that point he to sneezing to much to actually form a coherent sentence, much less ask her to stop. He floundered a bit away, hoping for some protection from the tall grass. They bent under his weight so they weren't much help but he managed to raise a paw to keep the worst off.

She stopped when something moved. A rabbit? Makki glanced over in time to see a young boy cover his nose. She tilted her head, watching him. "Are you ok?" She finally asked, her tail swaying slightly while she watched him. The white boy stood out against the tall grass like a firefly at night. "What are you doing in there?" She took a few steps closer to him.

Chance opened one eye and peeked at the pup, glad she had stopped her pollen-spreading. He lowered his paw, feeling foolish. "Um... yea, I'm ok. Sorry, my nost just gets irritated a lot." he said, lowering his head and flattening his ears, as if it were his fault his nose just happened to be extra sensitive. "I was just hiding from the... pollen." he told her, feeling even more stupid. What kind of helix hid from pollen? He glanced around nervously when she came closer, wondering if there was a way for him to escape.

"Pollen?" her ears perked up. "Does it attack? What is pollen? I'll defend you from it!" She spun in a circle, looking for this 'pollen' thing. "Lemme at em!" And promptly, she tripped on her tail, rolling onto her back. "Oouff!" After a moment, she started to giggle. "You're upside down."

He was surprised by the pup's reply. "Uh... pollen is the thing that comes off of flowers... I guess...." he said, not really sure if the pup was being serious or not. "It doesn't attack but it can really make your nose itchy." He wasn't sure how she would defend it from him if her sudden movements kept making them pop up in the first place and he laughed when she fell, although not unkindly. "You're upside-down, too." he told her, poking her forehead with his nose.

She squeaked when he nosed her forehead and squirmed a little before reaching up and getting her paws behind his ears, holding his head awkwardly. "Maybe it's all the butterflies! They like the flowers, so they must be doing something to make them unpleasant for you! Perhaps they're really trying to kill me, but it's somehow affecting you. I say we stop the butterflies!" She let go of his head and smiled.
"By the way, I'm Makki."

He was surprised when she held on to him by his ears, as he didn't expect her to do something like that. He didn't really mind, though, and he was left staring at her eyes and she stared into his. "The butterflies?" he asked. He had always seen them as wide, flying blades of grass but nothing more. To know that they were doing these horrible things with the flowers... they were certainly skilled. "Maybe." he said, shooting a glance at the butterfly still above them. It certainly didn't look very evil.... "How would we do that?" he asked, sitting down now that she had let go of him. "I'm Chance." he told her, smiling and thumping his tail on the ground.

Makki rolled over and sat up, looking at him intently. "We need devices. Something to track the butterflies to their layer. And when we know where they hide, we attack! We can't just pick off the scouts like ..." She looked up at the butterfly. It seemed to have lost interest and was flapping around with another butterfly. "scouts like them. We got to hit them where they live!" She looked back to chance and smiled. "But we might need help. Maybe some big help."

His smile was gone as soon as he saw the determined look on her face and he gulped nervously. "Devices? Like our noses?" he asked, getting cross-eyed to look at his. He perked his ears at the mention of a lair. He never knew they had one. So many things he was learning today! He tried to take notes in his head, things like: scounts = unimportant, find lair, and the likes. "Big help?" he wondered, craning his neck to look at a large flower. Or at least... the flower was larger than the flowers around it. It was still small, compared to him.

She sighed a little and shook her head. "Never mind. Just rest easy that I will some day take care of the butterflies that so torment your nose." Her tail swished along the ground a moment as she thought about something. Then, without warning, she pounced on Chance. "So what do you do for fun?"

Chance flattened his ears, sad that he had disapointed her. Or at least, that was what he thought. "Oh... uh, thanks." he said, still sad over the fact that he hadn't met up to her expectations. "Woah!" he he said when he suddenly felt himself being pushed onto his back. "Um..." he thought over her question, before reluctantly replying with a, "I don't know." Now that he had thought about it, there really wasn't much he did for fun.

"Don't know?" Makki stared at the boy then started laughing. "Then let's find out! I think there was an old bear den around here somewhere. It's really creepy. Want to go check it out with me?" She hopped off him and wagged her tail. "It'll really throw the butterflies off if we ignore them."

Chance looked away, ashamed, when she laughed, thinking she was taunting him. "Find out?" he asked, as he seemed to be doing for most of their conversation. He didn't see how a bear den could help him figure out what he did for fun, especially if it was creepy. Well... he trusted her to know that it wasn't dangerous, and he was still determined to help her on her quest to defeat the butterflies. "Right." he said with a stiff nod, trying not to chicken out.
