The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter."
I want to know, does the does the Animagus choose the wizard as well?
Part I: Does the Animagus choose the wizard?
Part II: Your Animagus depends on your personality. What would yours be? Consider all aspects of your personality before making the decision.
Part III: If you could choose what you turn into, what would your personal choice of Animagus be? This could be our favorite animal or an animal you think you’d be.
Make sure to note anything that may leave markings, such as glasses, rings you always wear, or the holes for pierced ears, etc…
This is mostly out of fun but it also gets a person thinking. Here is MY question regarding an Animagus:
If two animagi wizards of like animagi, such as dogs, mate and concieve IN THE ANIMAGI FORM and then return to their human form, what would the offspring be? Would they be dogs or human?
This should get you thinking.

I: Interesting idea. I am not sure. It would be a cool thing to ask JKR. II: I say a doe. I think the character from HP I am most like is Lily. (You all should know her patronus xd )I am pretty intelligent and I have a temper. I also stick up for anyone. Ask any of my friends in RL. hehe. III: A doe for sure. They are my favorite animals. They have been since I was .. 2? They are the animals that make me feel at peace. Plus, James is a stag!

I: I would think it would be more like the Sorting Hat. It does choose for you, but takes everything, including your likes and dislikes, into consideration.
II: I relate to so many characters from Harry Potter that it would be impossible for me to land on a Patronus that would suggest an Animagus form for me. Anything from a hare, to a otter, to a deer, to a horse, to a lynx, to a eagle. All of these fit me in some way. But the animal I am most similar to is a cat.
III: My personal choice for an Animagus form would probably be a golden brown housecat with white front paws, and markings for glasses.
IV: Why does it matter? Why would any Animagi do that? The better question to ask is if any Animagi have similar enough forms, or are they all much too different? (The latter is my guess.)

Part I: I believe that yes, the animagi chooses the wizard. There are several clues that support this theory (Wormtail had a rat-like nose and watery eyes and was annyoing like vermin, and Sirius had shaggy hair, laughed like a dog, and was playful and loyal, etc.) and so I expect that JK Rowling purposely made this true.
Part II: There are many different sides of my personality, and so this question is a little difficult to answer. However, I believe that I am most like a cat. I am often silent, and I love sleeping. However, I can also be very playful. If something irriates me, I will be easily aggravated; although, just like a cat would, I normally don't make it noticable to others until it really gets on my nerves. Even then, with a small "pat on the head" I will be in a happy mood again.
Part III: I'd love to be some type of bird, just because it has always been my dream to fly.

Twilight_of_Life The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter." I want to know, does the does the Animagus choose the wizard as well? Part I: Does the Animagus choose the wizard? Part II: Your Animagus depends on your personality. What would yours be? Consider all aspects of your personality before making the decision. Part III: If you could choose what you turn into, what would your personal choice of Animagus be? This could be our favorite animal or an animal you think you’d be. Make sure to note anything that may leave markings, such as glasses, rings you always wear, or the holes for pierced ears, etc… This is mostly out of fun but it also gets a person thinking. Here is MY question regarding an Animagus: If two animagi wizards of like animagi, such as dogs, mate and concieve IN THE ANIMAGI FORM and then return to their human form, what would the offspring be? Would they be dogs or human? This should get you thinking. Question one's answer: Yes and No. A Animagus is the form and extension of the persons true personality with flaws, gifts, fears, and hopes included. It is not a conscious choice rather and unconscious one, made by the persons will and personality. Harry's father and Harry for example. Both could be a jerk at times, but very noble and guarded the ones they loved as best they could, though they often got into trouble. A stag represents both well. They are large impressive beasts that guard their females and offspring. They can be bullying towards them as well. I know what's best follow me. I don't like this thing so I am going to do everything to get rid of it. A stag will herd a female, during rut. They will run off any creature that bothers them if possible and they can often get into trouble with other males, and sometimes even get their antlers caught in trees and on another stags antlers because they have to fight. Also Cho, she was very pretty, but could be quiet violent if the need be. She was rather what's the word... lets go with loyal to the one she loved but couldn't figure out who. She tried to replace Cedric with Harry after Cedric's death but that didn't work. Her form was that of a swan the most beautiful of birds but the one most likely to attack you if you get to close. They mate for life unless one of the pair dies and even then the new mate will be similar to the old, in the way it acts. (More aggressive, laid back, or protective for example.) She was loyal but her loyalty was more with Cedric and his memory when she tried to date Harry. Answer to question two: I may have one of two possible Animagi. Not sure which it would be though. I'll describe myself, faults included, and you can pick which best I fit. I am a person of poles. Bold, yet shy, endless curious to a fault, but lazy. I love to have fun, and I like to work but never the two shall meet. I like my home but not always the others in it. Invade my space without my permission and I will destroy you. I am always doing something new or a old favorite hobby. I like to help others, but overly seek my help constantly and you risk me taking over your life. I do not like to be controlled but I will follow orders if I believe you to be right, but do not betray my trust. You won't get a second chance easily. The two I believe I am is either a Phoenix or a rabbit. A rabbit is a being of opposites. If you ever have one as a pet you will learn swiftly that they are bold but frighten them and they will hide. They are lazy, but love to run and play. Never invade their home or you will find you hands clawed and bitten when they are in a mood. They tend to explore new things in old territories. A phoenix because I am always trying to change. I have different stages in my short life that are vastly different from one another and I tend to forget the old things I was, but not those who have harmed me. Earn my trust and you will have an eternal friend. Hurt me though or leave me and you may find I won't accept an apology. I don't like to fight but I will and I will be sure to win, because I may not be stronger then you but I can burn the ground from beneath your feet. I love new and I love change. Where it scares others I see new possibilities to move on. I love beauty but know that under it can be dangerous things. I know truth is good but it can destroy and I tend to be a little strange to those who don't know me or my ways. Where some make plans for a few days or weeks in advance I have goals set years even decades ahead of me and I work towards them just as hard as if they were coming tomorrow. If you know of a creature that has all these things please tell me. I like these two yes, but I would love to be one animal not two. Answer to question the third: Personally I like Dragons but I am not tough enough to be one. I don't fight unless I need to and then I would rather pull the rug out from under you then punch you to the floor. I am rarely super angry and I improve my mood quickly. But I do like the idea of them.

All wonderful views! Quote: I: I would think it would be more like the Sorting Hat. It does choose for you, but takes everything, including your likes and dislikes, into consideration. Very interesting. Vyalia's answer to it show how your answer could work. I think, however, that KatieInTheBox hits the nail on the head with her answer because if you take a look at the different characters that we know we animagi then we can see that their animal form represents their personality very well. If you also look at the Patronus of the characters they, like Katie pointed out with Cho, represent the personalities of the characters very well. Katie: Your personality sort of reminds me of a cat. They are fun, love to play, but are lazy as can be. They can change as they age from a hyperactive kitten to a more mild adult. They love company but if they go off somewhere they want to be left alone and will claw and bite if disturbed. They will fight for something that is theirs, they are curious as ever and do some pretty bold things but if someone they do not know comes along they hide in their special place or near their owner. In my opinion, this is a combination of both personalities. Hopefully this helps. As for me, I would be a wolf. Wolves are social creatures (despite what is said about them) unless the creature or human is strange to them. If it is strange they stand back somewhat shyly and wait until they know whether they can trust. Whenever I meet a new person I hold back until I talk to them for a few moments (even though I can generally tell right away if I will be able to trust a person) before I open myself up to them. Wolves are pack oriented. Theystick with their pack and protect one another to the death. My family and friends are my pack. If someone "attacks" them whether it is physical, emotional, or verbal I will be by their side to stand up for them and protect them.

Part I: I wouldn't say that the animagus chooses the wizard because your animagus form is just that--a form. It's not an actual animal you're taking from the wild, so it can't really choose you. In a way, you could say that magic is doing the choosing, but that's, um, too confusing for me to deal with right now (lol). I think it's magic comparing your personality with our preconceived characteristics of animals.
Part II: This is a lot harder. I think my animagus would be an owl. I love flying and the feeling of freedom, and I am basically nocturnal. I get testy when I'm in a small place, my hearing is very good and I'm very quiet when I want to be. I must say, however, that I don't swallow my prey whole and spit up pellets. ...
Part III: My favorite animal...would probably be a hawk. But I'm not very aggressive, and I'm not the type to actually react to people unless it's required.
Twilight of Life: I don't think that'd be possible, but if it were, the offspring would be an animal. This is considering that they are in animal form...eh, I don't think I need to go into specifics. But if the female were to transform back into human form, the fetus or lump of cells would probably die because it would be incompatible.

Part I: According to the HP Lexicon it says that the wizard chooses the animal, but it's really advanced magic. Just read it. >.> But if that was correct, then why would you have to register yourself? Shouldn't you've been able to turn into any animal?
Part II: I'm not sure... I think I would be a dog, frankly. I'm gullible, easygoing, sociable, and changeable. Yeah, I think I'd be a dog ^_^.
Part III: I'd like to be a cat, because cats are cool!

Here is my stepmom's theory on if two like animagus mated in animal form. She says that it depends on her form at the time she is giving birth. Because of magic, the animal form and human form could possibly be compatible. She thinks that, if the offspring are born while the mother is in animal form that the offspring will be "born an animagus". Personally, while this theory of hers is interesting, I don't believe it is possible because being an animagus is a learned ability. But that's her theory.

I mean if I decided to pick an animagus, then I certainly wouldn't pick a rat. I think it has more to do with personality traits and idealogies versus, oh that's a pretty animal, let's transform. ( Pettigrew had an affinity for rats. But we never see any mention if McGonagall likes cats.) But what about this, when you become an animagi, most people in this practice in clothing thus the clothing is tranformed as well, but they clothing show up as marks on the fur/skin of what ever animal form is taken. Which more than likely if you when skyclade all your embaressing birthmarks would show. Which makes me wonder if what you wear might influance how you look. But what about Patroni? I mean sometimes Patroni and Animagi aren't the same, but if you take James Potter for example his Patroni and Animagi are the same, why is that you think? I also have to wonder if like PAtroni when a person changes greatly could the shape of the Animgi change with them? Another thought, why was Sirius able to communicate with Crookshanks? Okay, I think I'm done.

I definately like the last question. I do believe that Padfoot, Prongs, Wormtail, and Moody could all communicate with one another "telepathically" in animagi form. Also, Crookshanks is the familiar of a witch, making it what I suppose you could call a "magical" cat. The magical animals have a "power" or two of their own which seperates them from the "normal" animals. These things could easily have something to do with why Sirius could speak to Crookshanks in animal form. Or I could jsut be extremely tired, and I could simply be spouting off whatever comes to mind because I really wanted to answer the question as best I could.

I think it could be the other way around. Maybe the wand type connects to personality! For example, according to Olivander, James' and Lily's wands were specially good for certain magical areas, that could reflect their personality. I mean James' was good for transfiguration, which is obviously shown surprisingly early in his magical career.
And good point, sablewong, about James' Patronus being the same as his Animagi being the same! It would make sense that their Animagi form could change if the Patronus, which appears to view the same aspects of your personality, can.

Ah, I so love this debate topic. It's always ineresting. You guys have amazingly wonderful points of view!
Do you guys remember if Sirius' patronus was a dog? Or did he never cast one? I don't think he ever cast one. Hmm....who wonders what Harry would choose for his animagus form if he ever decided to become one? Do you think he, like James, would be a stag, or would he pick something else? What would Hermione and Ron pick? Draco? Blaise? Ginny? Luna? Lavender? Any others you can think of? Not only am I curious but I'm also considering having several of those listed characters choose to become animagi. Not sure which ones, yet, so it would be cool for you guys to input on all of them. You don't have to, though. I think it does make good conversation, though, seeing as it is sorta related to the topic. ^)_^

I would probably be an owl, because I am a thinker, and intelligent. But if I had a choice I would be a horse, bat, cobra, or wolf.
