so adorable. one of the reptiles magazine had an article about tegus. really great pics. they are beautiful, but the biggest lizard ill ever keep i think are beardies, though i would love a red iguana, rather i would die for a blue iguana, but you can guess that will never happen XP what does your tegu feed on? do you feed it a staple of bugs or mice? im not sure what tegus normaly feed on. yours is so adorable. you really have the prettiest little black and white ive ever seen whats sized enclosure will he require once he is full grown? here is a pic of my big female leopard gecko next to her future boy friend, as soon as they stop hating each other XD the female is the super hypo and the male is the midnight blizzard http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=41725231&albumID=1424510&imageID=37963399 here is my girl's baby pic of when i first got her she is 9in. now and over 85grams. her name is ethen. i was 100% sure she would be a male when i got her because of her aggression to other leopard geckos. she ate her cagemate's tails and would bit me all the time when she was little. she still has an attitude but has calmed down alot. ive been attepting to get her used to the male for a few months now. and this is Pan, my gargoyle gecko. she is the same age as my Ethen but much smaller. at the moment she is only about 7in. she wont hold still so its hard to get weight and length from her. she bites sometimes which i hear is normal for young gargs. ive only had her since march but she is a year old. she still has more growing to to. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm? and this is Ellie, my one year old, 25in. ball python. i cant wait for her to get full grown, just a few more years. im only 90% sure she is a female. ive never popped or probed her, just an educated guess based on the length of her little python legs/spurs thats nowhere near all my herps, but thats everything that i have a pic of on this computer. i just adore cold blooded animals. and once my leos decide to stop hating each other and breed i shall have more >.< i just adore leos. so easy to care for and so many morphs, i just cant help but want to become a breeder. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=41725231&albumID=2120458&imageID=41048363

What a great little family you have going on there! Everyone looks great, though, I couldn't see the second last pic... the one of Pan. it said I needed to log in. leo's are amazing. I LOVE the way they start off with one pattern and do a complete turn over. And they're so little when they're babies heart
If you ever go for an Iguana, please buy it as a rescue! There are far too many ppl who dive into big lizards and don't understand the space and expense of their new pet, so they get rid of it. People REALLY need to do their RESEARCH before buying large animals, its rediculous! lol.
Thanks for complimenting Cygnus, he really is my little gorgious man. I swear I treat him like a son, lol. I cook for him sometimes, because he eats such a varied diet. I switch things around for him, I feed him mouse pinkies, superworms, crickets, dog food, crushed dog kibble, Ground turkey, scrambled eggs, chicken, and I sometimes leave fruit n veggies in his bowl for when he's ready to eat them. When he's older he'll eat mice, gerbils, snails, fruits n veggies, more ground turkey, eggs and dog food. And when's he older he'll be in a 6ft enclosure. Most ppl go with 6x3x3ft, cuz they don't need it to be tall, they don't climb. They're very intelligent, tame, and affectionate. Some can be litterbox trained which is wicked.
Btw! You're Ball Python is BEAUTIFUL!! My brother has one... I love their markings! look how bright and healthy yours is! You've done a great job with her!

thanks. its murder keeping up her humidity though, im not used to tropical herps besides my garg but her tank is tall so the humidity is easier to keep in. my ball is a sweatheart though. ive only been snapped at once even though i always smell like rats and she is a great eater. suprisingly i got her from petco. i got her for her personality though, not just becasue i wanted a ball right then, well, i did want a ball right then but i was willing to wait for a breeder, but my little ellie was just so sweet and active and ate on her first day. i just adore finding faces in her markings XD she puts up with so much from me i adore the pattern thing about leos as well. i got my girl from petco and thought she wouls be a high yellow then as her pattern changed i thought a hypo becasue she still had some spots. and now she is a super hypo and almost a carrot tail ^.^ i dont think ill ever have the space for an iguana. they are beautiful and i want one so badly, but ill never have the space for an iguana or a reticulated python. i love big herps but dont have the space or money for them. but if i ever did get one it would be an adult from a rescue. i love the baby stages but adults are so much easier to care for. but ill stick with my geckos and beardies for now. it really is sad how many large herps get tossed aside becasue they outgrew their baby tanks. i hate that myth about herps getting only as big as their tanks. sorry the pic of my garg isnt working, i dont have anything of her on photobucket so i have to link to myspace does this one work? http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=41725231&albumID=1692083&imageID=37962270i spoil my babies too. they are my children. i like to get silkworms for my leos and beardy. the garg is so picky though so her only treat is mango baby food once a month. i also give my beardy a pinky every once in a while as a treat.

Looks like you got some work ahead of you. Cygnus has recently decided that my fingers=food. So Today I took him out and soaked him in a bath, removed a lot of skin around his toes that he's been having troubles shedding, then spent time socializing him on the couch. It was really cute, The two of us fell asleep with the cat, all curled up and relaxed. I even tried singing softly to him so he can get use to my voice and he calmed right down and went to sleep. I'm getting into the habit of feeding him outside of his cage now so he changes his mind about my fingers, hehe.

Mmm mango. I hear a lot of tegus like Mango too. I should try picking some up sometime. When Siggy isn't sure about something I just dip it in raw egg and he usually goes for it.... But he's use to getting egg, so.
sad aw looks like I'm using up the last of the pinkies today. This little man Sure can Eat!! Geez!!! I feel like he's stealing all my food lol. pirate

perhapse you should start getting your mice online and in bulk then XD ive seen them for about 10cents per pinky if you got at least 50 at the reptile show last month. i have no use for that many pinkies so i didnt get them. once all my snakes are full grown then ill buy in bulk

Cute pics! Cygnus is adorable, and all the geckos are, too.
I don't have any reptiles myself (too many other fishies and such to care for, and feeding live animals might be too much for me), but my brother has a male albino leopard gecko named Sachi. =D We've had him for about a year now. Sachi arrived at the place where I work with some sort of muscular/nerve problem...unusual, as we'd never had a problem before with the breeder from whom he came. Of course, I fell sucker for the little guy, and my brohter had wanted a leo for about six months. He and his supplies were, for a the most part, rather expensive Christmas presents that year.
Good lighting and calcium supplements fixed most of the muscle problems, but he does have some sort of nerve disorder that's permanent. It's very minor now, but he isn't quite as sturdy as, say, a typical leo might be, and he's not very accurate when snapping at food. If he gets nervous and tries to turn around quickly, he can end up flipping onto his back instead, so it's important that things not get loud and stressful around the little guy.
Until i get good, new pics of him, I can show the ones from last year, when we first got him!
Now, people try to lambast me when I show these pictures. Yes, he's technically on sand in his terrarium. My brother did his research with substrate options. The sand is calcium sand, made of slightly larger grains of the same stuff as calcium powder. It's designed to not cause impaction if small amounts are ingested. The sand is an important part to keeping his muscles up, too, on those legs, and I still say the surface type had a good deal to do with his leg strength recovery. This guy had real issues when we got him. Paper towels/tile would have made it nearly impossible for him to get around.
Sachi doesn't get fed in his tank, so ingesting during feeding isn't an option. He's decided over the last few months that he doesn't want to eat unless my brother takes him out and gives him attention. =) My mom and I started calling him "Gandhi Gecko" after he went on some "Hunger strikes" before we figured the attention thing out....
Anyway, here he is!
This was when I was photographing him to be our albino leopard gecko photo for the tags. I realized both his little mobility problem and the fact that he was shedding (making the pictures cute, but not usable for the tag) at that time. I wouldn't have photographed the poor guy if I'd noticed beforehand that he was shedding. x-x It wasn't as obvious in life as in the photo.
With the muscle issues - you can actually see how his hind legs used to drift up and settle up near his torso. It was part of the condition....just poor muscle control. He no longer does that.

Sachi soaking on one of his first days. He likes to vocalize when he's done with baths, so my brother will take him out. He looks so young!

Sachi relaxing on one of his first days here - he's so much bigger now!

I'll post new photos when/if we get them. He looks so much more "mature" now.

how much i am against sand i have to say that you are going about it in a decent way. carpet may be a good thing to look into, it help with muscles and has more texture than tiles. but at least he isnt a baby on sand and you are feeding him somewhere else, i have to say that he looks like a good eater

I also disagree with calcium sand. It has been known to cause impaction. The substrate is made out of calcium carbonate which when gets wet it clumps together and hardens kind of like cement. Once you get a big ball of this stuff in your leo's digestive system a whole bunch of problems can occur. Such as paralyze in the back legs, decrease in bowl movements, laziness, and possibly death. Leo's like most lizards will test their environment using their tongue. Every time your brother's leo licks the substrate he will get a little bit of the substrate and a impaction will occur over time. Being on tile, carpet, paper towel, or non-adhesive liner paper will work and may increase recovery time (it is difficult for weak lizards to walk on sand) However it comes down to your brothers choice, I know he knows whats best for his lizard.

Dagnabbit. I got some new pictures yesterday, and I can't find the cord to connect my camera to my computer. X_X I know where I put it, and it's not there.
Yeah, I'm not really going to go into the sand thing. As I said, I trust my brother's opinion. He'd done six months' worth of research before getting the gecko, the gecko's been on it for a year now, and Sachi gets around on the sand better than any other surface he's crawled across. He likes cloth for climbing, but his toes get caught on it sometimes. His muscle issue means he doesn't have full control over bending them, I think...I'd imagine carpet fiber would be even worse.
My borhter got him one of those mesh lizard hammocks Wednesday, because he hadn't really had anything to climb on beforehand (we didn't want him falling off, so anything climbable was a flat and low surface). He kept it fairly low and has one end down on the ground for Sachi to climb on. He's been on it a couple times and likes to soak up the extra lamp warmth from being higher up. Possible new basking spot? =D He's always used the top of his moist hide box before.
