 Black legs, knee deep in the tall grass, treaded through the flowered clearing. Specks of pollen rose as hooves trampled their housing flowers, beginning their drifting descend down after Taigi's passing. He didn't exactly understand how he got to that particular area of the forest, but now that he was there, he was brimming with curiosity. The scents and surroundings were all new to him and he felt the trip's worth instantly, even though his black socks were clouded in pastel-yellow pollen and his nose would twitch up a sneeze every few minutes.
There was something far more interesting than flowers and perfume hovering about the border of the clearing opposite that of the young colt's location. It was a light, spring green in color and appeared not unlike a moth. But that wasn't right... Moths were nocturnal insects, weren't they? His inquisitive nature getting the best of him, he took off at a light canter towards his "new discovery".

 The small black shape was hard to miss in the myriad of colorful flowers. She was too far away to see exactly what kind of creature it was, but her sensitive nose (which had grown accustomed to the flowery scent) picked up the familiar smell of another Soquili. It was too small to be full grown, unless it was a miniature.
She had never met a miniature before, and she had doubts about a foal wandering about by itself. It was coming right towards her... normally she got very nervous about meeting someone new, but was no queesyness in her stomach. She smiled in greeting, waiting for it to get closer so she didn't have to shout.

Closer and closer he ran until he noticed that the other creature had equine proportions. He could clearly see that this one was a female; Her figure was slight and graceful. The first of all these things he noticed, however, was the gorgeous set of wings mounted upon her back.
He hesitated before resuming his approach, slower this time. As she came into clearer view, he could now make out details such as her gold-tinted eyes and the soft pink in her mane and tail as well as the fact that each wing had three pieces to it. This was the second stranger he met outside of his family and so far, both of his new "acquaintances" had the dainty, near-transparent wings. When he was but a few feet away from her, he stopped in place and cocked his head at her before muttering a simple "hello."

As the small black shape grew closer, Aeth could see that from the long awkward legs that this was no miniature. It was a foal! She laughed, happy that there would be no need to be nervous around this youngling.
"Well hello there!" She said, nodding her head slightly. Looking around in case she missed something, she looked for a parent, or maybe some sort of supervision. None to be found. "Are you all alone little one?" She asked.

The mare seemed much too magnificent and welcoming to be in any way bad so Taigi threw everything his parents'd ever told him about strangers aside. He gave her an enthusiastic grin and shook his head in an answer to her question, "no, miss, I'm all by myself!"
She was clearly an adult, of no definite age, but she looked young enough to have something interesting to say. He pondered upon things that older mares would be interested in talking about. Finding none, he glanced around at her wings again, his green eyes widening as he took the image in. When it got to the point that his eyes looked as if they'd pop out of their sockets, he whipped his head back around and smiled at Aeth. "Why are you a butterfly?"

Laughing at the foals complete honesty, she flexed her wings a bit, looking at them as she did so. "Let's see... why am I a butterfly?" She repeated the question to herself. Smiling to herself, she began to tell a story. She didn't think the little one would hold it against her if she fabricated a more
interesting reason rather than that she was just born that way.
"Well, when I was a foal not too long ago, about your age, I was wandering around the woods by myself. I don't remember where exactly I was, I hadn't been paying attention. But I came upon a very strange looking tree... its trunk split into two parts, and almost looked like wings."

Taigi came to the understanding that these horses, though with different attributes and appearances, were all alike. After all, his family was mixed; His mother being a unicorn and his father but a simple horse. She could laugh and tell stories just as well as any other good-natured equine.
His head bobbed along as she spoke a tale, hungry for more information about the world around him. Another strike from curiosity, even though he'd have liked very much to listen to the story uninterrupted, let slip a question, "how big was the tree?" Sure, it wasn't so important a detail, but he wanted to delve deeper into her story. The young foal wanted to visit the same tree as she had, breathe the same fragrances as she had. He cocked his head, awaiting a response.

"Let's see," she said, thinking about how big the tree may have been. "It wasn't a very big tree I guess. About the size of a white birch tree."
Gathering up more thoughts, she pictured the tree in her mind, trying to imagine the situation vividly.
"I stopped to look at the tree more carefully. There were vines wrapped around every branch, and beautiful flowers grew from the vines. The gave off a light and sweet scent. Butterflies fluttered amongst all the flowers, stopping to suck the syrup out of them every now and then."
She paused to take a breath, and saw how enraptured the foal was. Smiling, she continued on with the story.
"I guess I must have been very tired from walking all day, and the sun was warm. The sounds and smells were very soothing to me, and I soon fell asleep beneath the tree."

Tai grinned at her as she continued on. Closing his eyes, which is quite an unwise thing to do around strangers, he imagined the mare's voice as a brush that he'd seen local two-leggers use. The brush painted beautiful, vivid pictures in his mind that left him with the surreal stroke of a warming sun and soothing flower scents unlike even the ones in the clearing.
He opened his eyes, taking a deep breath. This action, of course, erased any prior sensations and he was left with the musky smell of the nearby forest and the now-commonplace flowers. Blinking up at her, he came to a sudden realization, "um, miss, what might your name be?"

Aethe whickered, remembering that she hadn't introduced herself. She noticed that it was noon time now; the sun was at it's peak. How long had she been going on for? She put aside her story for a moment to make introductions.
"I'm Aethereal. What's your name?" She smiled as she introduced herself. This was turning out to be a very interesting and pleasing day.

"Well.." Taigi took a long moment making like he was unsure of whether to tell her or not, "momma did say to avoid strangers.." He didn't mean this, of course, but he felt like playing around with this older mare. She seemed clear-headed enough and there was no rule saying you cannot have fun while around older Soquili. Tilting his head to the side, he cocked a single eyebrow and gave her yet another grin.
"But I suppose I could tell you, you've been pretty nice to me.." He was stalling for a complaint or outburst from the mare. Seeing as none came, he swung his head so it was cocked in the other direction as a 'last chance to exclaim' action before coming forth with his revelation, "well, my name is Taigi, miss Aethereal."

"Well, it's nice to meet you Taigi!" She couldn't help but laugh at the foal's playfulness. "Your mother is right though, not all strangers are friendly."
She was afraid of strangers herself, although she didn't really understand why. That's just the way she had always been. Foals were easy to get along with though - they weren't as intimidating as full grown Soquili.
"Are you ready for the rest of the story Taigi?"

Keeping his head in the same curious position, he looked at the mare. This time he really looked at her, however. His pupils devoured the green irises as they grew large when the shadow of his short bangs was swept above them by the wind. They reflected nothing but herself in their unblinking vastness. He was searching for some little detail or other that he was sure was being kept from him.
The question about the story threw him off, however. He blinked his eyes, the moisture feeling good as it washed away the few particles of dust that the careless wind scattered in. He shook his bangs to rest at the side of his face, which also made his slight unicorn horn stand out.
"Am I ever!"

The look the colt gave her was intense, but for whatever reason didn't make her feel uncomfortable.
"Okay, now where were we?" She thought for a second, trying to remember what she had said. "Ah, yes. I fell asleep."
She cleared her throat and began her tale again. "So, when I fell asleep, I dreamed. But the dream was real... I was really there. The tree I had fallen asleep under had turned into a huuuuuge butterfly. It was the most beautiful butterfly I had ever seen. Thousands of colors were woven in intricate patterns on its wings." As she continued talking, she almost began to believe the tale herself. "It grabbed my body with its little clawed feet, and lifted me into the air. It said, 'You will fly little soquili.' It went higher and higher into the air. And then... it dropped me!"

"Clawed?"
Taigi had never known butterflies to have clawed feet. The butterflies he had seen had small stick-like legs. He remembered when a particularly curious butterfly landed on the bridge of his nose, flexing its almost-transparent wings. This experience was not a very pleasant one in the colt's mind, however, due to the fact that his eager eyes looked a little too hard and saw the true, disturbing features of a butterfly's body. It was sickly looking, like a monster, with a long tube for a nose --or was it a mouth?-- and giant black voids for eyes.
But that was a butterfly; an animal unlike the flutter Soquili. The flutters, as far as he could tell only having met two, were beautiful. And looking at the mare before him, he couldn't help but smile again. Yes, he much preferred these horse-like butterflies to the 'real' ones.
