Did you see it?! So he IS actually the Doctor, but the next doctor? Or maybe a Valeyard-like character who isn't actually the Doctor but is... And were those choir people singing the word "Tardis"? They were singing "Tidings" Lol.
EDIT: This is now a Christmas Special thread.

OK, I just watched it...and this makes me think very strongly of a 6th Doctor audio adventure from a year or two ago I saw ads for in DWM. I couldn't buy or otherwise hear the story, but it involved someone who acted like this guy is--very noisy about who & what he is in a way the Doctor is not. Like he's trying to convince everybody. Not to say he's just an ordinary guy, but I'm not convinced he's truly another incarnation of the Doctor.

Like I told Eirwyn earlier, I hope this guy - if he is the Doctor - isn't as pompous and arrogant as he acts.

I think you're onto something, Eirwyn. I'm not sure who all in Victorian England would know much about the Doctor.. or at least enough to know about the Tardis, the Screwdriver, and the catch-phrase, at the very least. sweatdrop

Maybe he's another time-traveller? Not necesariily through space, just time.
Kinda like what Captain Jack originally did, taking someone else's name/occupation kinda thing... (somewhat spoiler for the TW S1 episode 'Captain Jack Harkness' whited out)

And... looking at the comic.. random thought jumped out at me. From the few pics I've seen of the 8th Doctor, he looks like his main outfit is some kind of Victorian-style outfit...? o__O (this probably is WAY off)

@Ceribri: It is pretty Victorian-style, yeah. (Extra information that someone may consider somewhat spoilery for those who haven't seen the movie, maybe, but I'm not sure?) I think it's supposed to be made from bits and pieces of different costumes hospital employees had for a New Year's Eve party, but it doesn't look like anything he'd have gathered from that stuff. If I remember right, the jacket may be from a cowboy costume. I can't remember. All I know is that I love his outfit.

*has not seen*

... is it up on youtube or something?

I don't think it could be the the next doctor BEFORE they've even announced it. But like I said he could be like the Valeyard- i.e. put together from different incarnations of the Doctor.
On a different note, was that a Cyber-Mat?

Does anyone have a link for us who didn't see it?
One to a non-British site, they don't work on my computer.

A Cybermat is like a Cyber bug and was used by the Cybermen as a weapon of sorts and for sabotage at least once. Here's a thing about them in Wikipedia that's good.

You can find it on YouTube by searching for 'Doctor Who Children in Need 2008". I'd post one of the many links currently available, but stuff like that occasionally gets pulled at the request of the BBC.

Trailer looks interesting. Should be good fun.

They could have been redesigned, but it's probably something else. I'd imagine it to be slightly more like the original... Maybe it was a Cyberman gone wrong? Or an experiment? Or a Cyber dog gone wrong...

I was soo excited when it came on!
It looked a lot like the setting of The Graske thingy... I swear I spotted him!!
In fact, after that, I donated £10 to Children In Need. =]

So, this chap in the red waistcoat:
Who's the actor? Is it someone who was bandied about as a possible successor?
It did strike me as a possibility that he might be an impostor running a scam. Not because he was too in-your-face (One, because most actors go a little overboard with the acting when they first get the part, and two, because I'm a Colin Baker fan and you couldn't get more in-your-face than him).
No, I think he might be an imposter because RTD likes jerking the fans around lol .
But it's just as likely that he is the real deal, and the actor just doesn't know how to play the part yet.
We'll find out soon enough. Until then, just repeat this Whovian Mantra:
"The only thing constant is change."

Hes an Imposter. Because after this aperntly he is supose to travel with the doctor. Also it would cause a Time Paradox if it really was the Doctor. and John Simm has singed on for one of the Specials as The Master. I think this character read a bout The Doctor and is putting this girl on about him being a time lord.
