I saw this on Youtube, watch the video here. A 5-year old tiger named Tatiana escapes her cage in San Fransisco Zoo and attacks multiple people in the process. One died, two were injured. The cause of the incident is unknown, but I have heard that someone was throwing rocks at it through it's cage, though I'm not entirely sure. Shortly after it escaped, the tiger gets shot. What are your thoughts on this? Did Tatiana deserve to die? Should people even keep wild animals in cages? In my opinion, she did absolutely not deserve to die. Of course they had to do something before she killed more people, but I wish they had just tranquilized the poor animal. If they hadn't captured her in the first place, nothing would have happened.

Um, I think this is kinda old news? They proved that the dead guy and one other were taunting the tiger, provoking the attack, but that the zoo also had the fence way too short. The whole incident was people's fault.

Ive heard about this before, its horrible that people were throwing rocks at the poor animal. after all of the stress of being captured, then put into a cage for entertainment, that poor tiger didnt deserve to die. it was scared. so it was trying to defend itself. I hope the zoo owners have learned their lesson! stare

She was zoo-bred, if I remember correctly, not captured wild.

Yeah I know it's an old case, but I just wanted your thoughts on this. There are many examples of these incidents, this is just one of them. And even though she was zoo-bred, it would never have happened if people didn't capture wild animals in the first place! >__> And apparently no one has learned their lesson yet. They keep on doing such horrible things. Though, I see why they had to shoot it. Maybe it would have been to hard to tranquilize it or something.

Yeah, thats true! But this tiger was provoked, the person/people who were throwing things at it were teasing the animal. I just hope that more and more people learn from their mistakes and treat animals with the respect they deserve..

Well, capturing wild animals is usually never a good thing, but you must not forget that many of these zoos are participating in breeding programs to help create populations that can be released back into the wild. Not every zoo is just a cage for poor animals, some are really making an effort to keep animals around for the future. Plus, zoos are still a place to spark animal conservation efforts in younger generations. Seeing a tiger on tv and seeing one in real life are too very different things, and many kids find the real thing very inspiring.
And I have to add- most of the zoo horror stories seem to generate in over-seas places where animals are still seen as things of amusement. This kind of event is still rare in the US. And that particular area that this happened in is so down-hill most would prefer to give it back to Mexico.

Good point, and I dont want wild animals to become extict, therefore capturing them for breeding is generally a good thing, as long as they are treated right and eventually let free again! well, I live in the UK, and I heard about that incident in the news, but i dont know where about in the world it happend though?

Pretty much the whole southern half of California has reverted back to mexico. So much so that students are burning American flags and putting up mexicos without being punished. I know quite a few people who moved out of California for this reason. But most incidents seem to come from Asia- like the panda mauling a guy recently, or horse fighting in the Phillipines. Animals are still very much objects in many of the cultures there.

Yeah, its awful that animals are being treated that way, horse fighting ect. just if there wasn't bad people in the world, then things would be so different.

Most zoos in the US now try to recreate a natural environment for their animals. There are pros and cons to anything in this world.
Even in every culture you have some people that are doing good and others doing bad, but all part of the same coin tho. We each have to make a choice on how we behave and treat each other and everything in the environment.
Everything is in a balance we could not know happiness unless we had sorrow. All we can do is try to be the best we can and hope others follow our lead.

Yeah, you're right. But in my opinion, they should just let the creatures be, though it's a little too late now I think. They can live on their own just fine, no need to capture them. At least most people treat them good.

klaryskasmith You´re right...I read a story about man who has a bengal tiger like pet...and he lives with him in an apartement...but they found out it...and he had also a crocodile biggrin owning aigators, crocs, and reptiles in that family isnt too uncommon in the herp trade, neither is owning venomous reptiles. i myself am working on being trained to own some vipers one day. but i do not agree with keeping a tiger as a pet, that is a wild animal that needs space and enrichment, much more so than any reptile would need.

I don't think a animal deserves to die unless it killed many many people (that means over 500 D smile no they shouldn't catch wild animals and put them in cages and stuff, it's not cool. D: poor tiger stop picking on it, I hate people who do that for no reason [well to get attention] those people got their attention! scream that's what u get people for bugging the poor tiger. It's only five! five! mrgreen :'o I hope the animal is treated right now <3, don't hate appre-she-ate :'D
