So every Sunday morning found Shade and Antony sparring in the park. The fact was, Antony would have never been seen in public if he wasn't in good enough shape that he didn't get sweaty easily. Being sweaty in public was far more than he could handle, but today he wasn't escaping that.
It was one of those autumn days where it was too warm for sweats and too cold for shorts. He had stripped to sweat shorts for a bit, but was starting to feel the chill again, thanks to that annoying sweat he had built up while wearing the pants. It was no wonder he called it a day early and headed for the pop machines to buy a water.
He just hoped that no one he knew came.

Unfortunately, Antony must have done a half dozen horrible things to karma over the past life or two. Fate was not kind to the slightly uncomfortable boy between the weather and location.
A faint humming drifted towards him and he looked up to see a teenager approach from the other side of the row of machines. She paused at the first one, not even glancing at him, and considered her options. As she thought, she wound a piece of teal hair around her finger. After a moment, she wrinkled her nose and moved on to the next one. Before long, she was at his machine, bending over slightly to study the buttons. Her pink skirt swayed a bit as she shifted her weight back and forth before straightening. Then, not even looking sideways at him, she said quietly, "Hello, Antony."

He blinked, then blinked again before clearing his throat. It seemed that Delilah had grown... up, that was. "Ah, well, good morning, Delilah," he said, sounding a bit awkward, even to his own ears. What was with all these girls growing so suddenly. "You look quite... lovely, today."
And having bloody awful timing, at that, he thought irritably. He stank of sweat and his hair was no doubt a godawful mess!

That brought her around to him and she faced him head-on with a pretty little smile. "I forgot how tall you were," she answered in what appeared to be a slight non sequitor. "And thank you. It just happened and Mama's still working on my wardrobe."

"I see," he said. "Well so far she's doing a very good job," he told her. He couldn't stand it, his hands went up and undid his braid, only to have the hair caught by the wind. He barely managed not to curse. "Excuse me, I'm afraid I'm not in top form at the moment," he said, turning towards the wind and forcing his hair to behave.
Or trying to. It had gotten longer since he had grown.

Delilah laughed softly and, unseen by him, rolled her eyes. "I think I feel priveleged to have seen you like this," she returned. Then she stepped behind him and carefully helped him capture his hair, smoothing her hands expertly from his temples back to grip it all in low ponytail. "Do you have a band?"

A fine tremor ran through his body, surprising him slightly. He had not expected that, to be honest. "Ah, yes, of course," he said, handing her the tied. "Thank you."
Awkwarrrddd. "So, ah, how long have you been grown?" he asked, trying not to think of her touching his hair. Why was he so flustered by that, anyway? He had no idea.

"Three days" came the unperturbed answer, calm and tranquil as a mountain lake. Delilah's hands moved expertly to smooth his hair better. "Uncle Kiet only just let me out of the house," she added as if that made any sense and did not sound at all like a kidnap situation. "Would you like it braided again or just a tail?"

"Just a tail is fine," he said quickly. He took a drink of water the moment he realized he was holding the bottle he had bought. "So your uncle is a bit... protective?" he asked. Who could blame the guy, he added silently. "Does it bother you?"

"Not really. Mama explained it to me." She paused as she adjusted his hair and wrapped the band around to keep it in place. Then she absently smoothed a hand down the silky length of it before pulling her hands away. She edged back around him so she once more stood in his view and her little smile was wry. "Uncle Kiet isn't used to children growing up so fast and he thinks of me as his daughter. I did have to promise him that I would keep my clothing on. I don't know what that was about. I always do. We aren't on Mama's home planet, after all. I think he's silly but he's sweet so I forgive him."
She tilted her head, studying him. "Have you been running?" she asked. A pause as she searched her memories. "With Iggy perhaps?"

"With my father, actually," he admitted. "We like to spend Sunday mornings working out in the park." And speaking of which-- He looked around, not surprised to see that Shade had made himself scarce. Why, he wasn't sure, but it seemed like something Shade would do.
"But it seems we're done for the day. Ah..." He took another drink. "Do you want to do something?" It was only polite to ask, after all.

At the mention of Shade, Delilah had also looked around expectantly. When there was no sign of the tall, older man, she refocused on Antony. At his offer, she smiled once more. "I would love to. I haven't seen you in ages."

"Ah, yes, me either," stuuupiddd, he was a moron. It was decided. Show him a pretty face and his brain and mouth stopped working in conjunction. Or something. Or maybe it was the personality. That was thought provoking until he realized he had just been standing there for three minutes, not saying anything.
"Do you want to go somewhere to get a snack?" he asked finally. "It's a bit cold for ice cream, but--"
It never occurred to him that that would be considered a date.

As if his words sparked a notice in the temperature, Delilah wrapped her arms around her torso, hands gripping low at her sides with the unfortunate result of cleavage-ahoy. "Just the thought of ice cream makes me shiver," she agreed. She released herself and instead laced her fingers behind her back and looked off to the side, staring into the distance for a moment. Then she smiled and looked back to her friend, taking in his expression with secret amusement. "There's a cafe just outside the park. Mama used to take me there when I was little. We can get something warm to drink."

"Ah, right, right," he said, looking away quickly and finishing off his water. "I could go for some hot chocolate," he said. He still had a child's tastebuds, it seemed. That or he had only tasted coffee that could peel paint off of the walls.
That was how it seemed to him, at least. "And maybe some pie," he added as his stomach threatened to rumble.
