The freelands. Ran loved them. Why? Because they were...free. Her butterflies seemed to like this place too, as they almost always led her here when they appeared out of no where. Today, though, they seemed to have a specific destination in mind, and not just fluttering aimlessly about.

Where were they so desperate to lead her to so quickly? Despite having her eyes constantly upward--keenly watching the creatures only she could see--she managed to run along and bump into nothing. That is, no rock or tree. Suddenly she found herself running head-first into the back of another wolf's leg, tumbling to the side and glancing up at her.

The last wolf she'd run into hadn't been very friendly about it. Looking away from Gyani and around the area, she was dissapointed to find her butterflies had vanished. Was this where they wanted her to be...?

Gyani yawned rlling from her side to be on her paws, that was a good nap, myes. But, why hadent she slept longer? Ebilness. She just had this feeling something wanted her to be somewhere. But.. Where? Her ears twiched, some kind of whisper was getting to her ears? What the hell? With a blink, she wandered in Ran's direction, soon reaching the area.

"Hello? " She called bluntly, only then to notice Ran, offering a friendly tail wag.

"Hello," Ran offered politely just like Momma had told her to do. Normally, she would've immediatly started with her questions. Strangers had always interested her. Not this time, though. No, this time she was too occupied thinking to ask such things right away. The butterflies had never led her to another wolf before!

Later, she'd ask Momma and she said what she said maybe. Probably just tell her she was seeing things again and to "quit it". She never understood why adults said that to her. She couldn't just quit it. "Ran's is Ran," she introduced finally, tail wagging. "Who are you?"

Gyani smiled and wandered closer to see better, then sat down. This time, her own mind scanned 'Ran' for her, and she wuffed out a "Gyani" in response to the pup's question. "Why are you alone, Ran? " The femme asked, pups alone just didnt seem right! >>'

"Butterflies brought Ran here," she explained without hestation. It always got her weird looks and things, but she had yet to understand why. It wasn't her fault they couldn't see things--always fluttering around her if she refused to go somewhere until she finally agreed. This had been one of those times.

She hadn't wanted to run away from Momma again. That was the last thing she wanted, really, especially since it risked bumping into that horrible wolf with red eyes. Shudder. Unfortunately, the 'invisible' butterflies never made things optional. "Why is Gyani out here?"

Butterflies? Leave it to Gyani to find.. Weird wolves. Eh well, at least this one wasent.. utterly insane! "I'm is here because I think something wants me here.. I think. " She sad, it was just.. Freaky odd. And VERY freaky odd. It was.. Ebily odd, yesh. But enough about it being odd. Odder more was Ran in her butterfly case, butterflies? Wuldent she have sen them?It was just.. No! No more 'odd'! Just, go with it. Yeah, thats it, go with it, go with life, go with. Ran being different, yush.

"Is it the butterflies?" Ran asked ethusastically. Could someone else see them?! If an adult could, they could tell Momma and Sister and Brothers! They'd have to believe her then! Adults didn't lie, right?

Suddenly, her eyes narrowed. Not in a way that suggested a threaten glare or anything, more so just one of intense focus. "Ran sees one there," she whispered, as if talking any louder might make the 'one'--no doubt a butterfly--flutter away. "Where are you going?!"

Without another word to Gyani, she bolted past her and rushed through the trees.

Gyani blinked, she didn't see them, but folloed Ran in an easy trot, but halted, an ear twiching to the side, had she heard something? Blah, just imagination, of course it was! She looked in the direction, as if to make sure then continued after Ran, what was in the pup's mind anyways?

They were so far away, of course they wouldn't have noticed from there. It was amazing how fast Ran could run being so small. On the bright side it made it easier to dodge around the trees and rocks. Being tired never crossed her mind. Her thoughts focused only on the butterflies. Until there was that horrible scent. She had never liked it, but this time it smelled different than that of a deer or rabbit...

Blood.

Still, her eyes didn't dare leave the lone butterfly that remained, flailing wildly in the air. Something was certainly upsetting her (or him, Ran just assumed her)! When the butterfly stopped, she stopped, looked around, and realized quickly why.

That blood was that of a wolf. Not just one, but many. At least seven. Each of them had bite marks all over. Well, all over what was left of them. It was a horrifying thought, but...it looked like something had eaten them. What would eat a wolf?!

Whining purely out of instinct, the terrified puppy stumbled back a few paces, trembling. There was a pause, nothing but silence, and then she howled louder than anyone would've expected she could. Ran wants to go home, Momma! Come get Ran!

Gyani blinked as the scent hit her nostirlls, blood? Ran! Of course, she didnt thik Ran had been hurt, but possibly some thing wuld do that soon. Thus, she killed the trot and turnined it into a sprint.

Ran! Was the first thought that occured when she saw her stumble back a bit, stopping next t the pup and looking down to it. "Ran we shuld l-- " Interruption, she looked around, wolves? Dead wolves..? Had they really been..? Of it were one, she'd understand a bear but.. So many? Bears wuldent be able to kill sand eat that many at once!

"Ran... " she whispered, just in time before the pups howl. "Do you know your way home? I think I shuld take you back.. " She whispered after, no pup shuld be seeing such thing!

The howl had faded, nothing more than a whine now. A heart-breaking whine. Ran was young as it was, which on it's own held innocence, but just her overall self couldn't grasp why one would do this. Even she was smart enough to know this wasn't the work of any bear, the only thing big and strong enough aside from...

She was almost thankful when there were bright wings fluttering infront of her, breaking her from her thoughts. Her greatfulness didn't last very long once she realized what he wanted her to do---follow. Again, she whined. And, again, the butterfly failed to respond in a way other than flapping his wings harder and circling in the direction he wanted her to go.

"Ran go this way," she regretfully told Gyani, regaining the balance that had been lost upon stumbling onto such a scene. With so much blood, and the recent rains, the scent had faded--but there were other ways to tell these things, other forms. Such as footprints. Bloody footprints that appeared to have strolled so contently away from the corpses.

Flutter. Beside the footprint the butterfly landed, going still and vanishing. With him gone, the pup looked the pawprint over catiously--and she too stopped. That paw...she recognized it. It was the same that had stepped on her, smacked her around, stolen her from Momma.

Then there was growling. Was that her growling? For the first time in her life, Ran was angry. No, furious, her teeth bared and fur standing on end. She had to be wrong! That wolf was mean, yeah, but...he wouldn't really eat others like him, would he?
PostPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2005 10:52 am

Again, the female folloed Ran, only to look at the print. Under the bloodscent, Gyani culdent realy note that the faint scent of her own brother still remained, never to occur the thought that it had been him.

Did she want to know? Oh boy she did, but did she want to encounter a wolf that had killed so many? No, hell no. Though, more suprized was when Ran growled, the growl was so angry, so odd... "Ran, wheres youre momma? Whomever it was.. It might come back... " Her voice trailed, it might even be hard for Ran to hear, her growl having become louder then the females words.

It was a few seconds later before the pup settled down. By some miracle she managed to hear Gyani over it. "Momma?" She questioned, glancing around. "Ran doesn't know." It wasn't her mother she was looking for, but a butterfly. They'd led her here, why wouldn't they willingly lead her back? At first she thought they wanted her to stay, but for what reason? Soon, she realized they failed to appear merely because they weren't needed.

As if on que, Sashta stepped into their line of vision, gazing over all the deceased with a look of empathy. This was a horrible scene indeed, but if not for herself than for her daughter she had to be calmer than ever. "He won't come back," she assured the two of them in monotone, though her eyes blazed. "There's no reason to return here."
PostPosted: Sun Oct 09, 2005 11:33 am

Gyani blinked, almost takng a defencive posture from Sashta's sudden apherance, but soon it was decided she was harmless. Well, not harmless, just not posing a threat.. Yeah. Yet, oddly enough, instead of her ears moving towards the black and white alpha, they moved back again, along with her atention-- again a little voice seemed to try and talk to her, but it ceased and soon Gyani was with her attention back to Sashta.
'That is good. " she stated flatly, then added. "You're Rans mother? " Ran did seem to resemble Sashta, a bit. And they're scents werent all that different.

'Unfortunately' was the first thing that came to mind. Ran... If only she could be like her brothers and her sister. Sure, they were all dark, semi-evil, I-want-to-rule-the-world-and-possibly-kill-you-all puppies, but at least she could keep track of them! They didn't run off constantly, get kidnapped, nearly get the rest of the family and likely the pack killed. Not them, just Ran. "Yes," she answered simply. "And you're Phantom's sister, aren't you?"

The shoulder is what gave it away. Phantom had spoken of that marking, and what were the chances another wolf would have it? Not likely. Ah, Gyani. She remembered being like her. Not an alpha. Not a mother. Precious days, now that she thought about it. "I assume judging by your reaction to this scene you aren't aware he's responsible for it."
