“I don’t want to go…”
Josh peered outside of his car door wearily. His face clung close to the window, his nose nearly pressed against the freezing surface. The glass gradually fogged up as if his breath was slowly claiming its dominance over the crystal clear surface. The image beyond his door blurred subtly.
All that separated Josh from Ani’s duplex was ten feet. Ten arduous, grueling, frostbitten feet. He could already feel the chilled wind seeping through the thin metal that shielded him from the bitter winds outside. Oh, how he hated the cold. He could already see the small piles of snow awaiting him, ready to turn his feet to numb, useless stumps. He hated it almost as much as the heat. Yet… he could already imagine the joy he would gain from being able to play Halo alongside a friend. Perhaps, he could stand the cold… just this once.
Josh opened his car door grudgingly and stepped outside into the winter wonderland that was Durem. His feet made an uncomfortable crunching in the fresh powder beneath him.
‘Crunch, crunch, crunch’
Josh all but leapt onto Ani’s porch. His hands immediately reached up to his mouth to begin the ritual of huffing and puffing to get them at a comfortable temperature. Once that was accomplished, his hands continued their journey upwards as they rapped gently on Ani's door with just enough force to make his presence known. And so, Josh began his trip to the promised land of gaming and leisure.

The sound of the knocking was drowned out, at first, by some explosions coming from the television. No games had been played today but to get herself pumped Ani had decided to watch Die Hard after she woke up, which just happened a couple of hours ago. She had been sure to get herself all clean and tidy last night so she at least didn't have that to worry about but it had been a while since anyone was over at her place... having company was new and awkward again.
Tango barked, rushing over towards the front door of her section, leaping up and putting his paws up against the door and shoving himself off, walking in a circle and repeating the process. Dogs were funny protectors but it got her attention more then the knocking was and Ani snatched at the remote, muting the TV just as a fighter jet was slamming down against some upturned highway.

In a flurry of motion Ani leaped off the couch and grabbed one of her hoodies from the small wall rack beside the door and zipped up, leaving the hood over her head. Tango followed her swiftly out the door and into the foyer, which was large and wooden all around, a tall staircase in the back just past her door which lead up to the second section of the duplex.
Clacking nails and short yips weren't doing much for keeping her motion out there a secret; paranoia was usually apparent with her whenever some one knocked on the door, even if she was expecting them. Always had to use the peep hole above all else and she would like to be able to pretend she wasn't home if the situation called for it. But ah, it was Josh!
A quick grab of Tango's collar and Anita opened up the door, stepping back with the large dog in tow, "Come in! Come in! God, it's freezing out. How are you?" as soon as he was inside she pushed the door shut with her foot, keeping her leg extended until she heard the click of the bolt and she reached over to lock it, releasing Tango who was already flailing about like a headless chicken, whining for attention from Josh and licking at any part of his skin he could get to.
