He groaned as sunlight filtered in through the gap of his den and cast its brilliant rays across his face. Was it morning already? Was it really? It felt like he'd only just shut his eyes a couple of seconds ago and here he was being forced to face another day.
Sleeping was a luxury. Why hadn't he taken advantage of it in his quieter days as a cub?
Oh, that's right, because he had been a cub and he hadn't appreciated the blessing of a good night's sleep.
He lifted an eye to see if No was still there.
She was.
A smile touched his maw and he drew himself closer, sharing a cuddle that would be brief but just enough to set him up for the day. If he could start every morning like this it wouldn't be all bad, right? But now...now he didn't feel like moving at all. In fact, now he wanted to stay snuggled up in the den with his mate and out of the sun. He wanted to sleep the day away and not have to worry about what was going on outside.
But he couldn't.
With another groan he did what he hated doing and forced himself up onto his paws. Then, with a small shake he moved out into the sunlight, pausing to glance back at his mate. He hoped he hadn't disturbed her too. She'd been working just as hard as he had.
And...secretly, he'd begun to worry about her. She wasn't acting like her usual self. He didn't know why and he was afraid to ask incase it prompted annoyance, but that didn't help the worry that something wasn't quite right.

No had never been much of a dreamer. But while Kidondo slowly awoke, the black cat found herself torn between wary dreams. Her own worries over herself were finding ways to keep restless. In her dream, she struggled to find her way to water- but small creatures kept biting at her ankles. It didn't hurt, but it slowed her as she moved. Like a numbness...
She was thankful then when Kidondo woke her. By the time she was coherent he was already standing, and she scolded herself on not doing the same. Sleepily, she yawned and let her claws sink into the warm earth. "Morning already..." She sighed. He had turned back to look at her, and a smile crossed her face.
...And that's when things started to go downhill. She started to rise, and a wave of dizziness hit her. She froze where she stood and slowly sunk back down, her ears flattening against her head. "Haha..." She eased quietly. "Feet still asleep."
A lie, but she didn't want to worry him. Heaven knows, she was worrying herself as it was. Up until this point No had never been troubled by her health. She'd never been irritable without reason. And she'd certainly never ate like- but the thought of food brought a nauseousness to her stomach, and she immediately pushed that aside.
Well. At least she wasn't hungry anymore. "I had a strange dream..." She lamented quietly. "Little things biting at my feet. I wonder if that means something."

“No!” He called, turning himself around and moving back into the den as quickly as physically possible. “No, are you alright?” He couldn’t help it. He worried. Constantly. He lowered his head to nuzzle her gently, a concerned purr at his throat.
Her next words took him by surprise.
Dreams.
Kidondo had an instinctual distrust of dreams. Being a seer – though a seer in denial of his own powers – had made him suspicious of those sleep-pictures. To the unknowing mind they were nothing more than an imagination playing games. But, he knew that secret messages were locked away in them – if you knew where to look. His sister had known where to look and it had turned her into something that he could never trust. He, too, had had dreams of things that were both magical and quite ordinary. Things that could be premonitions of what would come to pass…
“Maybe you should rest.” He continued, wincing at his lame attempt at changing the subject.
But what could it mean?
Something bad, that was for sure. Biting was never good. A fight, perhaps? Trouble ahead? But little things? Nipping things like piranhas in the river?
“It was just a dream.” He answered shakily, not liking this nervous feeling in his gut. “But I’m worried about you. You haven’t been yourself lately and…” He grabbed at words which wouldn’t come.
“Maybe…you’ve been overworking.”

She took in a low sigh, and shook her head. "Maybe...I don't know." Wearily, she forced a smile on her face. The subject of her own weakness was not one she wanted Kidondo to worry about. It was already terrifying her enough as it was. "I'm sure it's just a thing. Didn't sleep right."
But he was right. She hadn't been herself.
Her grin grew wider, trying to regain her usual quirk. "But, never mind it. Good enough that we asked Bodaway to stop by. I'm sure by the time we're done, it'll pass. Just a bit dizzy, that's all."
Maybe. She was glad at her attempt to change the subject however. Hopefully the older lion would hurry himself up, before she lost her stomach.

He nodded slowly but didn't look convinced. He leaned forwards again, gave her a lick across her nose then drew back to give her room.
"Okay. Just take it easy until it passes. If you need anything, be sure to let me know."
He blinnked. Oh right. Bodaway. Promotion. That's why he'd woken up early despite his body's best attempts to keep him asleep. With a small grunt he backed out of the den. "He should be along any moment now. You just stay right there. I'll go meet him and bring him back. Alright?" And with a last look he turned to pada a few strides from the den, casting a look around.

As if on cue, Bodaway walked up. A hum was in his throat, a slight bounce in his step. Of course, there were also a few new scratches on his pelt, but they were easily attributed to a scuffle at one of the borders.
As he approached, the aging lion bowed his head, smiling. "Good morning, my lord and lady!" Stopping near them, he glanced at No. "Are you alright...? You don't look too well..." Then again... Kibela had looked that way, and now she was... But he wasn't going to make any assumptions. Gaze turning to Kidondo, his ears flicked. "You asked me to pay you a visit today, yes? I think it was today..."

No scoffed, forcing back any feelings of discomfort she'd been having. "I'm perfectly fine," She lied, and settled back against the den wall, steadily pulsing her tail. She supposed it wasn't called for, and swallowed down her agitation with about as much contempt as she did the bile. "But, yes- we did ask you to come today."
With a shift, she glanced at Kidondo. She hoped he wouldn't call her out on her lie to Bodaway- but then again, she figured it was pretty obvious she wasn't feeling too well. Hopefully however, the older male knew to let it be. No wasn't sure if she could take too much coddling. "Kidondo and I were talking about some of the recent promotions [if you will], we've been doing."

"Of course." He bowed his head, smiling. "There are plenty of lions in the pride now, I'm sure many of them make fine choices for promotion!" Of course, there were probably going to be even more... Between joining rogues, converting lions, and any births that would happen. Then again... He'd rarely seen a small Firekin litter since he'd returned to the desert. His hadn't been small, that was for sure. Maybe it was something in the water...

Kidondo settled close to No, feeling somewhat protective of her. Yes, this was No they were talking about here. Strong, independant and capable. But that was what made this all the more scary and he wanted to be close - in case she need him.
"The pride is growing." He agreed with a content rumble. "Things are looking up, indeed. However, many of our numbers are young and, perhaps, inexperienced because of this. Even our General, Azarax has only begun his career and will need aid and support from the older and wiser amongst us."
He looked to No and then back to Bodayway. "That is why we called you here today, Bodaway. We are in need of your experience and wisdom. You are one of well-bodied and well-minded elders. Because of that you are a valuable resource of information that members should be privileged to call upon."
He paused to see let No finish this little speech.

[ ;__; So sorry, had no idea it was my turn! ]
No nodded. "Nothing would please us more, Bodaway if you were to advise our new General as Sergeant. Like we've told Azarax, it will be up to a group of you to manage our military forces. But Azarax cannot be everywhere, and we don't wish to spread our load so thinly." And most importantly, but perhaps unsaid: Bodaway would complete their balance of the old and new. A face like Bodaways would be recognizable by the traditionalists who remained with them. They might be hard pressed to accept Azarax as general, but seeing someone like Bodaway directly underpaw was just the right kind of diplomacy this new pride needed.
And, No wasn't the one to dance around issues like this, either. "We're in a transition point of our operations. It's important we find a balance between the traditionalists and our rebel firekin. We both believe you are the most qualified to help that."

The aging male looked between them, stunned. "What, really? Me...?" He frowned, tilting his head. "Are you sure you don't want somebody... Younger...?" He wasn't going to lie... He was pretty old. "I mean, I remember seeing your father when he was a cub, Kidondo..." Granted, he was a younger cub, but he still remembered...
