here is a race I have been working on for 4e. it is a combination of an Orc and an elf. please try not to be too critical on it.
Elruk average height: 5'8"- 6'7" average weight: 150-210 lbs ability scores: +2 Str and +2Dex Size:medium Speed: 6 squares Vision: low light skill bonuss: +2 racial bonus to Nature and Endurence checks Dual Heritage: You can take feats that have elf or orc as a prerequisite as long as you meet the other prerequisites Tough Survivor: you gain a +2 bonus to perception, nature checks, Endurence, Fortitude defence, and attack rolls while in a natural environment.
Descended from orcs and Elves, these social outcasts search for their place in the world. Most orcs do not accept them, elves both fear and respect them as a powerful new force. It is rumored that the first Elruk was the result of a magic fusion experiment and soon afterwards became the chief diety of these people.
Play an Elruk if you want... * to be a social outcast, struggling to gain acceptance in society * to be a tough character more at home in the wild than in society *to be a member of a race that favors the barbarian, ranger, and druid classes
Physical Qualities Elruks look like muscled up elves with tusks. They have the skin, hair, and eye color of both parents although elven colors are more common for their hair and eyes. It is not uncommon for males to grow coarse facial and body hair. Elruks usually dress themselves simply usually making their clothes from fur, leather and animal hide. They keep their hair straight and were face paint when hunting. Elruks live to be 125 years old. They reach maturity around 20 years of age and still appear young even in old age.

Elruk 3.5 edition
+2 Str +2 dex -2 cha
size: medium Speed: 30 feet low light vision. every 1/100 is born with dark wision Elf blooded Orc blooded + 1 racial on spot and listen checks tough survivor: +2 attack rolls when in a natural environment and fortitude saves against natural poisons and harsh weather LA 0 favored classes: barbarian(m) Druid(f) ranger/scout (both) languages Common Elruk bonus languages: orc, elven, giant, goblin, gnoll, dwarven
Language: Elruk is a variant of elven with an orcish twist to some of the words. It can be hard to understand even with a mastery of both elven and orc languages. The language is written in a runic variant of the elven script. It may appear at first to be using the dwarven script but looking closer at it the letters look more elvish in nature.

if i could offer my suggestions, to make it more realistic, notice that offspring are always a little better than parents. they get the better of any two features. so this race would probably have darkvision rather than lowlight vision. also, and this isn't realy all that important, for game balance it would best if you said perhaps that only 1 of the favored classes are ignored when multiclassed and figuring XP penalties. so for example, instead of being abe to freely multiclass as a barbarian ranger scout rogue, he'd have to be say, just barbarian ranger or barbarian rogue to have free multiclassing.

i don't really like xp penalties so i never use them in my campaigns. but I guess they should choose one though in regular games. the reason for the lowlight is because I was following the bastards and bloodlines book.

The book in question is a 3.0 book but if you know what was changed between 3.0 and 3.5 then one can convert any of the creatures in it to 3.5 with ease.

well I was using the creatures from 3.5 just the rules for actual construction.so the only thing I would have to correct would just change lowlight vision to dark vision.

All things considered, I still think you did a good job for the task.

Is there a template or something to help you create a new race?

not that I know I just used the bastards and bloodlines to make a new race from two existing races.
