It was cold, it was damp, and Nyx was finding herself more than a little unhappy. It'd rained all last night, and her wings were still wet from the downpour. The softest huff of indignation slipped from her as she tried to unsuccessfully groom them. It wasn't much good; they'd dried partially in the warm, morning sun and now stuck up at odd little tufts and angles. Now she just looked silly. After a few more unsuccessful attempts to make the appendages behave, the filly sighed and gave up, peering wordlessly around her for any sign of a familiar face.

Not that she needed them, really. She just didn't want to be alone. Yes, that was it. Besides, she admired and respected her father very much... even if she hadn't the faintest idea about what her mother was like. That didn't bother her much either. Wordlessly shuffling through the grass, Nyx let her spaded tail flick to and fro, trying to keep the rain-covered plants from brushing up against her flanks.

"Nasty." She muttered under her breath as burrs and seeds from stray weeds managed to dangle themselves in her damp feathers, sneering with distaste before worriedly trying to pick them out. Ugh! They were all over her and she could hardly stand it! "Now where did he go?" Her father, of course--she'd lost sight of him and was feeling simultaneously distraught and offended. He hadn't tried to leave her, had he? She didn't want to be stuck out in the muck all by herself!

Until recently Louie had lived a lonely life that rarely broke from its repetitive monotony. Recently, though, the monotony was not just broken, it was absolutely shattered into a million tiny pieces by adding something completely unexpected into the pattern-- foals. Louie still had no idea why he saved Meera that one day that seemed like such an obscure memory now. That single event began so much self-doubt, and speculation that he wasn’t entirely sure who he was anymore. Everything that led up to that event made him believe that he was just as heartless and evil as the skinwalker that attacked Meera, but saving her changed everything. It made him believe that there was some good buried deep down inside of him, but whether or not he should pursue it was another matter entirely.

However, before he was able to recognize the possibility that not all of himself was evil, Meera confronted him. She wanted to know what he truly was for the sake of the fate of the baskets, and that alone made Louie realize that he could never be ‘normal’.

In a brief meeting with his brother, Caine, Louie had begun to ponder the possibility of his ‘thirst’ being passed down. It was a tricky thing, but it gave him some sort of hope, that one of his children might be like him, and he for once might have someone to confide in, and to relate to.

As it turned out, Nyx, the daughter that looked almost exactly like him, happened to share some other qualities with him. It was all so strange to Louie still. He wasn’t used to almost constant contact with others. Before Meera, he only really talked to his brother every so often, and those meetings were scarce. However, to raise a foal adequately required constant interaction it seemed. Louie, not needing much sleep, wandered off in the middle of the downpour last night to spend some time by himself to think about his future along with Nyx’s. Even when Meera was pregnant, he had not really come to terms that one of them could be like him, and that he could actually have someone to relate to. Now, it was all just a quick snap back to reality. Nyx wasn’t completely like him, she still held characteristics of Meera. The young foal was not apathetic and careless like Louie always remembered himself as being. She was in fact to some degrees needy, and at some times, Louie just had no idea how to provide for her at all.

As Louie watched his daughter, he struggled inside. He knew he couldn’t provide for her in a motherly way like he knew Meera would so well. Helplessly he watched as the young foal tried to groom herself. There were so many things he couldn’t teach her. Silently, he walked up to his daughter, and nudged his cold nose against her neck. He mumbled a, “good morning,” and tossed his wet hair to the other side of his neck. “I’m sorry I left, I thought you would sleep longer, but I’m here now.” He knew he couldn’t take back what he did to Meera, but he knew that he could still try his hardest to provide for Nyx.
