Efreet sighed, his heart beating. He wanted to be her's...but the words got caught in his throat when he looked at her. She was beautiful and he dreampt of her more then once. She was of proper birth, no visible or mental quirks...She was perfect. He would attack any helix who tried to court her...even those who looked at her. She would be his! Efreet even attacked one helix because he was frustrated that he couldn't speak to her! His lips always trembled and his heart would threaten to break his ribs. He paced in circles sometimes, wondering what he could say to her. But today...he had a plan. He had a dead spring rabbit in his maw and picked it up, heading to where Sorrel often slept. He would walk up to her, drop the rabbit at her paws and.... recite a poem. "I'm doomed."

The one called Sorrel was often by her lonesome. She had yet to settle down in a pack, nor did she really want to. She liked living on her own, though she was not opposed to being friends with others. She was certainly different.
she didn't talk much at first, as always, and her eyes where sharp and penetrating. She was crafty, but not cruel.
This particular afternoon she was napping in an old ruin she called home. The old stone building was crumbling and little was left, save for the small building that shielded her from the weather when it turned sour. She had taken up napping just outside of the entrance, where limbs allowed sunlight to peek through and warm her.

Efreet pushed through the bamboo thicket, a long ear dangling between his teeth. He cleared his throat, acting submissivly, and sat down just a few feet before her, his musk wafting through the air.
He cleared his throat and dropped the rabbit. "S...so...Sorrel." he greeted. he had spoken to her a few times before, but it always ended awkwardly. "um..."
he took a deep breath.
"a...a...a..a rose by any other name would not be as sweet as you...um... a daisy is as ugly as a toad's face in comparion, its true.." he shivered.
"a sky of blue... a tree....green...um.." he was faltering. "uh...i hope that..no. spleen of deer and beans.
I want to be... uh... um... oh forget it!" he turned and clenched his eyes, racing back into the trees. He knew tht wasn't going to work.

The napping wolf flicked an ear and opened her golden eyes slowly. The scent of musk alerted her to who her visitor was long before her parted eyes settled on him.
It was that male, the bright orange one. Huh...
What was he doing back? And waking her up, too.
She sat up and was about to speak, but he had already started his poor attempt at a poem. She listened and clenched her teeth as he stuttered. His attempt at poetry was enough to make her want to laugh, but she sort of felt pity for him, too.
Then he was gone. For a moment, she considered staying where she was and eating the gift he had obviously meant for her. Why else would he drop it so close?
Buuuuuut... Well, he seemed like a nice guy. Might as well share it.
"Wait up!"
She picked up the unfortunate hare and briskly trotted after the embarassed male.

Efreet was ashamed. He should have fought another helix before her to impress her, but noooo! He had to go with the sappy HUMAN emotional bullshit. He imagined he heard her calling to wait up, so that she could tell him she loved his poem and food and that she wished to mate with her.
He didn't imagine that. He turned. 'Wait up' set his heart soaring. 'Wait up.' Those two syllables. Those bells in his ears.... He felt inspiration as she ran up.
"Hey..." he said, still shyly.

Her brisk pace slowed as she approached the brightly hued male. At least he had heard her and stopped. She was still sort of tired and missed the relaxed warmth of her nap. The adolescent was a smidge younger than this adult, but she would be an adult, soon.
The level headed female dropped the dead hare and offered him a grin.
"That was pretty funny..." She paused for a moment, then suddenly felt rather mean. "But cute." She added quickly and her tail wagged slightly. Why did this fellow come see her so often? What did he see in her? He seemed like a tough, brutish fellow. She had even heard whispers of a dangerous male that matched his description.

He smiled. "Well...I've never recited a poem before. It sounded good in my head, you see." he smiled at her, now more himself then when he was reciting the poem. "I'm surprised you didn't laugh." he said. "I would have."
He streched. "Anyway. The poem was just a..perk, i guess. The rabbit was the real gift. I would have taken down an elk, but they are too scarce in these woods." He sat down. "I'm Efreet." he said. "I don't know if I'd mentioned that, Sorrel."

"I think you have before. Name rings a bell, anyways. I almost laughed, but I didn't want to upset you. No hard feelings, 'kay?" She nudged the hare with her maw. The thing was freshly killed and smelled rather delicious.
"Elk, huh? I guess you're a Northerner? What brings you so far down this way, huh? Here, let's share it." She bit into the hare and swallowed a bite, but left the way open for the male to eat, too.

A cold wind seemed to omit from him and his face became shadowed as he ignored her offer. He had to be honest with her...
"I'm an exile." he said in a soft voice. "I attacked a pup...paralyzied it from the withers down." he scrunched his eyes. "I was hunting...he was white, like a snowshoe rabbit's fur...and by the time i had attacked and realized my error, it was too late. I used to be white..but my pack attacked me, painted me with a bright colour and warning stripes and kicked me out of the north. If I ever go back I'm a dead wolf." he said, ears down.
"The orange makes it so that everyone can see me coming and hide their pups. The stripes are like a venomous frog- they spell danger. I haven't had much company since."

"Huh. That's a shame." She took another bite and while she seemed unconcerned with what the male was saying, she was actually deeply contemplating it.
So. This was the male she had heard stories about. Well, he didn't seem so bad. Accidents do happen. He should of been paying more attention...
"Fur sheds. You'll look funny while it does, but you'll eventually be white again. Besides, accidents happen. Here, eat a little, so I don't feel like a hog, 'kay?"

He shook his head. "For many seasons I have shed and never does the orange fade." he muttered gruffly. But he did take a bit of the rabbit, chewing it. Truth was, he had lied about thinking the pup a rabbit.
The pup had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. A brilliant shade of red, he had sighted her after losing a scrap with another male. So...he had taken it out on her, shredding half her skin and breaking almost every bone in her leg. If her parents had not heard her cries for help and tag-teamed on him..he would have killed her that day.

If she had known the truth...
Well then, Sorrel would of certainly avoided this male at all costs. But she didn't and from his story, she felt pity for him. "That's odd. Paint fades. Huh." She sat the hare asside and hoped that he would at least eat a little.
"Well. Still, it was an accident. Life goes on, as sad as it may sound. Death is a part of life and everyone meets there end one way or another. It is destined."

He nodded and suddenly, inspiration filled his head.
"Everything will come to an end, but let me end with you. Beauty has never been met with eyes that golden hue.
Your name is a bell hung in my heart. That i would rip my body to pieces for. If ever should you leave me, It would cause an uncurable sore.
You are my everything like the sun on a sunny noon May we intertwine in May For there we shall swoon.
Everything will come to an end But my love will never die And though I have no wings... please, let my heart doth fly."

"That's rather pretty..." She replied quietly as she focused her golden gaze on her paws. She was younger than he...
And he had a rather shady history.
So why did she feel sort of drawn to him? She was always one with a level head, so this was no time to be acting like a love sick pup. She needed to take things slowly.
"Crafty with words, are you Northerner?" She chuckled.

"You gotta be to live." he said, smirking at her young form. "But I mean every word. I have watched you from afar, sometimes wishing to share musk." he said, wagging her tail.
