I'm thinking about getting an acoustic guitar around the range of $700 or under. Does anyone know of any good brands of acoustic guitars in general? Or of brands I should stay away from?

try to get one that is solid wood and not laminate, that way it will age well. Or at least solid top and back. For 700 you may not be able to get one that is all solid wood, unless you go used, which is fine. I like the yairi guitars, they are high end alvarez, you might be able to find a used one for like 800, they have small fast necks and are all solid wood.

depends on what you're into. a lower end breedlove is great if you want a rich large-body. an ibanez around $700 is good for all around everything and they look beautiful. takamine for the classic look/feel. and i also recomend ovation for something with great tone and different look/feel. hope that list helps a little. smile

takamine is good as long as you don't get a G series, the build quality is not always consistent on those, the japanese ones are good, but they usually run over a grand.

This. I have one that I paid $350 for and it sounds and handles great, so if you're willing to pay twice that you're definately not going to be disappointed.
