NightStorm sighed as she trudged threw the cold winterous territory. Wind blew threw her wings uncomfortably and she twitched as the feeling. She sighed again as her light purple color could pull off as odd colored snow but her holey wings would give her away. " Its so cold...." She stuttered.

Kane: Looking like a patch of bloody snow, a pair of puppy eyes spied on the hunting stranger. The pup had half covered himself in snow to hide from the other helix, white pelt partially camouflaging him. He didn't want to be seen yet as his own kind did little more than steal his food, take his shelter, or feed him out of pity than try to get him to enter their pack so they could tell him how to live his life and what to do.
Kane was too proud of himself to take orders though, he was an orphan pup making it out on his own in the North, a harsh territory. His stomach was shrunken with ribs showing, a direct sign of his starving hunger. He didn't know how to hunt at all, other than to try to sneak up on his prey then blindly charge at it. The youthfulness that usually came with pups was not present in him.
Life had dealt him a harsh blow, stealing his innocence. The playfulness wouldn't come out now until he was fed. Which was hard to do when trespassers were nearby to distract him, but as young as he was, what could he do? He narrowed his eyes, studying this helix.
What were wings doing on this helix's back? Could she fly like a bird? He had never seen the likes of her before. His ears perked popping out of the snow. He flattened them again quickly. She seemed to have trouble hunting too, and why was she alone like him? Was she orphaned too?
Hearing her comment he wondered if she even lived around her. It was always cold, his puppy fur grew thick to protect him. Still the weather got to him on colder days like this, especially with snow on top of him. Those wings looked vulnerable to the icy wind. Why wasn't she taking shelter?
When she got close enough he popped out of the snow to judge how she reacted to him. If she started demanding things he'd treat her as the intruder she is, if she was nice he could try to help by giving her shelter at the risk that she might turn aggressive and steal it. He wanted to help her but didn't know weather or not he could trust her.

NightStorm had not known totally that someone had been watching her. She had thought it was blood covered snow herself. She pressed her wings together and the bandages on her legs blew on the wind as she kept going. She was starving and cold from the eastern territory.
But right when he popped out she yelped loudly, suprised. She flinched back her eyes wide with suprise and maybe even a bit of fear. Her wings fluttered carelessly and said loudly and panicy " Who are you!" She said flinching a bit. She was always so delicate an she swayed a bit as she got herself back together.

Kane: He judged her reaction, fear to someone his size? Must have been the element of surprise. The pup grinned at his successful ambush and quickly introduced himself. "I am Kane." He poofed his little chest out and tried to look important, enjoying the attention. "Loner of the north! You are on my territory but since you don't pose a threat I'm here to help. Come on." He bounced in the direction of his little cave. He kept sinking in some of the deeper parts of the snow but he'd just hop out and keep going.
Not far from the place they had been standing was an ordinary looking snow covered hill with a small tree full of red leaves on top. Some of the branches were heavy with snow and were close to the ground. Kane walked into the snow at the base of the hill. Snow shifted around him and fell, revealing a small cave. He turned back to see if the flier had followed. ( It was hidden by the snow, the hill has a hollow space on the inside that can be used for shelter. You know those movies were you walk behind a waterfall and find a cave? Well this time it's snow, not waterfalls that hide the entrance. )
Inside the rocky shelter the ground was covered with dead grass, feathers, animal furs, and fallen leaves. Climbing the top of the hill, Kane bit the low branches on the tree, shaking them. Piles of snow fell down all around him. He made sure the helix was inside first before pushing most of the snow over the entrance way again to hide it and keep the inside warm.
A strange looking circular cube of ice lay near the entrance, inside the frozen water were multiple frozen fish. The sides of the ice cube looked bitten by hungry puppy teeth trying to break the ice unsuccessfully. Kane returned through a small gap in the snow barrier. While he went back to gnawing on the ice cube, trying to break it open, he watched the stranger to see what she'd do.

NightStorm followed after him just wanting to get out of the cold. It was just a pup but she could not fend herself off well at all. A bit of snow fell on her when he shook the tree and she sneezed likely. She pressed her holey wings together once more to keep the frost winds out of them as she finally said " I am NightStorm..."
THe second she got in she shook her pelt dry for snow and she looked at her wet bandages but that was all she had to look at. She shivered once and she was feeling alot better being out of the storm. She looked at the pup as he nodded on the cube and she just giggled " Are you hungry young pup?" She wispered.

Kane: "I can take care of myself!" He announced proudly, not wanting her to suggest joining a pack to hunt for him. His protruding ribs spoke otherwise, showing his hunger. He sighed in relief at the giggle, well at least she didn't seem mean. Most helixes he had the misfortune to find were mean bullies. "Hunting hasn't been fruitful around here, not much prey." He spoke honestly hoping it would deter her from taking his territory if she was faking the nice attitude. He wasn't sure weather she was or she wasn't.
"I found this at a pond, dragged it here myself, hoped that the warmth would melt it enough for me to break the ice with my teeth." He explained. His mouth was cold and his teeth were sore from trying all day. At last he had given up and went hunting again when he had discovered NightStorm.
In frustration he grabbed the ice cube and shook his head, banging it against the rocks on the side of the cave. It was heavy for him though so he didn't do much damage to the ice cube. He finally left it go. Not wanting to show weakness he acted like he wasn't desperately hungry by laying down close to the cube.
His stomach kept making hungry gurgling noises so their was no point in trying to lie about it. "Yes I am hungry, I didn't expect to find food so easily, it was a stroke of luck. It doesn't surprise me that the food is hard to get to though." He growled at the ice, as if it were some cruel creature dangling food right under the pup's nose that he could not have.
Looking away from his ice cube he noticed her bandages were soaking wet. "Take those off right now!" He demanded, not daring enough to go over there, least she attack him for being bossy. He tried to explain. "Before the water freezes and you get frost bite on your legs." He warned, he would not have a helix loosing limbs in his cave! If she lost her ability to walk in the North she would either die of starvation or depend on him for the rest of his already hard life.
"Don't lick the legs or rub them. Just put them on top of the animal furs and lay on them if you can." Mother had taught him about frost bite. Frozen skin could easily come off if rubbed and licking them would only make them wetter.

" I... I can;t!" She said a bit more defence then she should have. She went over to the icecube and leaned over it as the water trickled on her. A bit of the fishes head was visible. " I am much more warm blooded then you..." SHe said trying to skip the bandages.
Under the bandages was to her as hdious as her wings and nose. Scarred from battles she had not gotten into. Lashes from the gods. She sighed lightly still not going to let any part of her get shown more then it was. Then it had.

Kane's ears flattened at the words, but he quickly gave up. "Fine! It's your legs." He huffed, why should he care? Why had he tried to help in the frist place? Did she say that simply because she's not from around here? At least he had never seen her around. Winged helixes were a rare sight. He wasn't sure how to take her warm blooded comment. He could survive just fine out in the cold! Besides, if she was so warm blooded why did she seek shelter? She must be hiding something. He let it slide.
He quickly stood over the icecube, somewhat protectively. He'd be right there if she made a move to steal the frozen food. Why else would she be standing there? To help? Could she help break the ice? Should he let her try? At least there were plenty of fish to be broken out.

NightStorm sighed. She couldn't take them off. She would scare the pup. She kept pressing herself until the one of the many fish flopped out. She may be warm blooded but she was alway cold. The fish flopped coldly and lazily and it died. She took a few steps back until she asked " Do I scare you? If I don't I will take my bandages off for a bit.." This made her sink her head down. She wanted to take them off her legs were numming and she knew this was bad. SHe shivered once more.

Kane: "I'm not scared of anything, and besides your not acting very scary." He reassured her looking at the fish in amazement as it flopped weakly. "You mean they were frozen alive? Talk about fresh food!" She must have stronger jaws than him.
To prove his bravery he rushed over and grabbed the fish in his jaws. He knew now that the fish was free, with them both hungry, that she likely wanted it. She was hungry too. She could fight for it and win if she wanted to. Her question had threatened his male ego though so he had to prove himself.
Instead of wolfing the morsel down greedily like he wanted to he soon dropped the fish and walked over to the cube. Maybe he could help break the ice so they could both eat. Then everyone would feel better. He found the hole in the ice where the fish had popped out and bite down hard around the rim, making tiny cracks. If they broke this together the number of fish would provide a small feast.
He noticed her shiver, frustration made him bit down harder, making larger cracks in the ice. Why had she not listened to him? He may be young but he knew what he was talking about when it came to frost bite. She really needed to take those things off. She was shivering and still cold from those wet bandages. Why did she wear them anyway? Was she hurt? She didn't limp like she was injured or anything.
Not that he was concerned, not one bit.
....
Okay, maybe a little. But he wouldn't admit it willingly.

NightStorm as happy the small pup had gotten something to eat. She just looked down at her legs and bit hard on one of the bandages as he worked on the ice. She pulled it off and the ribbon laid in her teeth and she put it on an edge off the rocks to dry.
Under the first bandage was scars and a few unhealed cuts. All seemed to be from so long ago. She took off the other one and did the same and it had nothing but deep scars. She still kept the back legs away from him and they would be hard to see since she sat on the. She put her face on her paws as she watched the pup wandering.

Kane finally managed to break a chunk of ice off the main piece. The hole the fish had left behind had weakened the tough structure. Another fish lay open for eating. He left it there for NightStorm to eat, going back over to his fish. He quickly started with the tail and worked his way up, not leaving any part of the fish behind that he could chew off or swallow whole. He was not picky and in his hunger he quickly consumed the whole thing.
It was cold but it felt really good to his belly, to have some nourishment after days of unsuccessful hunting. At last, food! He eagerly started chewing on the large cube of ice again, hoping to break off more ice chunks with fish sticking out of them.
He was grateful when he saw her take the bandages off. He noticed the scars but wasn't too fazed by them. Fights, battles, even small pack wars were common in the North, therefore scars were common as well. He had never seen so many at once but whoever she fought must have been tough. He didn't question how she got them, the answer seemed obvious to him. At least she could warm the legs now.

" Don't upset the gods..." NightStorm wispered quietly. She shook her back legs since they were num. She looked at the fish and her stomach growled loudly. A deep sigh escaped her lips this was this pup;s food and not hers. She was not gonna touch it. SHe would hunt for her own food once her bandages were okay.

Kane: Hearing her comment he wondered which God she meant. Realizing that she wasn't going to take the offered food, a very surprised Kane finally started eating that fish too. He felt respect to the female, she was the first and only helix that did not take food from others, even when it was offered, even when she was hungry! She must have wanted her own prey. He understood the feeling, he didn't like charity either.

NightStorm nodded lightly to the pup. She went over to one side of the cave and put her paw on the wall digging it deep into thes stone until their was a inprint. She smiled. Her paw was large enough but then again small for a gamma. She looked at the pup eating and said " Eat alot pup this seems to be the summer of this place, winter would kill me..."
