The virile stallion stood beneath a gnarled oak, boredom seeping from every pore. The times when he could withdraw into himself, adopting a meditative state and let his imagination soar to soothe his active mind, was long passed. Now... Now, when he closed his eyes, all he saw was blood.
Blood and memories, swirling, tantalizing, mocking...
He snorted decisively, powerful muscles bulging as he strode out from beneath the old oak. He would not surrender to such somber thoughts of times long passed. He would live in the moment, paying heed to only that which was before him, thinking only of pleasant things.
I want to be someone Something more than tame I want to rekindle that Dwindling flame
Crimson eyes scanned the forest for any signs of life, for anything that could distract him from his silent contemplations. Anything at all.

The crimson mare was slowly passing through the woods, the glimpse in her eyes getting more and more annoyed, as the branches were hitting her head and body. It was her first time so far away from home. And she was not coming back. How did they DARE treat her like that?! Her, of all things! Only because that good-for-nothing mare showed up- She was NOT going to let herself be treated that way. She'll find a place where they'll acknowledge her for how much she is REALLY worth!
But this forest was SO MUCH less friendlier than the one near her old herd's territory... How can someone live in such a place? Kurenai was almost ready to turn back, and try to find a better route. But then she noticed someone. The mare slowly kicked the ground with her hoof, wondering who would be sitting by himself so deep in the forest. But well, at least it's someone she can ask for directions!
"Hello there!" She asked loudly, with her most pleasant voice. "It's a nice day, isn't it?"

A queer light flickered in his eyes as he turned to face the mare who had called out. Perfect timing.
"Hello..." his voice was rich and pure, reverberating with a sonorous quality that made him sound almost enthused. He quickly assessed the crimson mare, a small smile teasing at the corners of his lips as his eyes traced the sinuous curve of her generous wings. "... This day has proven to be much more pleasing than others of late." His strange speech patterns marked him as a foreign soul.
"I trust this day finds you in good health?" He was, through and through, a healer; asking after her health came as naturally to him as breathing... even if he could no longer heal those in need... He banished such thoughts abruptly.
Focus on the present.

"Is that so?" The mare smiled, and moved her head, making her hair form a small wave, before concentrating again on the stallion. She was gorgeous, and she knew it. She knew a million and one ways to show her charming self, and she was sure that she could think up even more. Question was, if it was worth to try in the middle of the forest, for such a small audience. Well, it WAS a while since I last saw someone other than a squirrell or an occasional fox... Kurenai smiled, bringing forth all her charms. Go ahead, boy, admire me. That's what I'm here for.
"Oh, I feel quite good, thank you for asking." A lie, but nobody has to know about it. She felt awful after a walk between all those naughty, naughty branches, touching her mane, leaving impurities... ...for the gods, DO I HAVE LEAVES IN MY MANE?!?!?! She barely stopped herself for showing the shock in her eyes. If she knew someone will be here, she'd look for a stream to look into, and try to clean herself up a bit... But alas, it was too late now. Hopefully he'll take the occasional leaves for 'nature's charm', and won't concentrate on them.
"If I may ask... Just where exactly am I?"

A slight, bemused, smile tugged at the corners of his lips once more as he watched the glamorous mare toss her luzurious mane so that it fell just so. She was obviously young, obviously beautiful, obviously aware of the effect her dainty crimson form had on stallions....
... and obviously naive.
Here was a mare who had never known hardship in her life. Here was a mare who probably reacted to a little mud splattered upon her perfect hooves with a heart-shattered wail of despair. Here was a mare whose self-centered vanity was refreshing... especially to one who knew well how hard life really could be.
And so he bowed like a courtier, dipping his head gracefully as he rose with a little twinkle in his eye. "I am glad to hear of it. You are currently in a forest, m'dam, though I know not what name the two-leggers give to it." He shrugged apologetically, sunlight flashing on his golden locks. "It is between a sturdy mountain and a trickling stream, some good distance away from the nearest known Soquili herd." He rose one brow querulously. "Have you need of assistance?"
Ah, simple words. How pleasant it was to forget.

Yes, that's a good boy... Admire me... Admire me some more... Kurenai tilted her head slightly, and sent the stallion a smile. "Yes, the trees might've hinted that there'll be a forest here." She giggled quietly, and looked around. "Though it is much deeper and larger than anything I'm used to, I must say. Is it always so dark here? And do the trees always grow so close to each other?"
Nai made a quick move with her feathered tail, making the wind her brush, so that the feathers would once again take their perfect form. She moved a step closer to the stallion, looking at him... ...rating him... He must've passed the test, that happened instantly in her head. Without a moment hesitation between her step and her words, she smiled brilliantly, and anwsered. "I could greatly use some company right now. It's been really a long while since I saw another soquili. A way too long while."
The mare moved one of her legs, stretching it slowly. Then the second one. And then, she looked back at the stallion. "My name is Kurenai. Friends may call me Nai. And you are..?"
