Here the clanless people can RP a bit to show off their skills and -of course- for fun. Clanless members are NOT allowed to post in any of the other roleplaying threads until they are accepted into a Clan. You are considered "accepted into a Clan" when your profile is accepted by the Clan leader and added to the profiles thread.

Clanmembers may of course play along here as well, as nothing that happens in this thread will be considered canon to the Clan Wars storyline. Feel free to go a bit crazy. razz

Barton Field

Just outside Barton town lies the Barton Field area. Children come to these grassy fields to play, and adults to relax. The main access road connecting Barton to the nearest cities passes through this field. Certain parts of it are also well known as a testing ground for aspiring Clan members. It is not a rare thing for a Clan member to start his career on this field.

(Hope this is what you mean....)
Frock walked into the open field feeling the vast array of wildflower brush his legs. He sighed as he watched the children around him play games that he once did. He sat on the grass and felt the dew of early morning seep through his clothing revitalizing him. Frock sighed as he looked up into the sky, its angelic clouds floating lazily above him.

Suoh Mizu

Suoh stepped out from the tree line and into the sun. He paused and looked skyward allowing the sun to wash over him. He felt the shine bite at his eyes but its warmth and heat could penetrate the isolation he had incured on his heart. He wondered how often his mother looked up at the sun, back at the castle, like he did now. Suoh missed his mother but it was her choice to be a harlot and bear the illegitimate sons of a prince and leave them to fend for themselves.

Suoh blinked and returned his eyes to the field. The mother was left back in the rays of sun, able to touch him but never able to penetrate him. Suoh noticed how much warmer the sun had become as he travelled south. He didn't know exactly where he was going but he knew well enough where he didn't want to be.

Out of habit he placed his hand on the rapier at his hip as he walked through the knee high grass. He could hear the mice scuttling for cover but in his line of business it was never clear when an adversary would approach. Back before he left the kingdom where his mother presided he had earned quite a reputation for dealing justic with his own hands. Children used to be told tales of robbers and thieves but now they fell asleep knowing there was nothing in the fog at night willing to hurt them.

Frock peered silently at the sky. It seemed to be mocking him inconspicuously. As the many clouds flowed by it seemed to prove to him that life up their was easy and flowing. These clouds suddenly made him disgusted and he sat up. He looked at the trees swaying like royalty in the wind. Their lush green outgrowths seemed like they were arms reaching out to him. Frock felt his spirits lift as the trees swayed and the high grass grazed his face. Maybe life isn't so bad after all.. Frock thought happily.

Suoh Mizu

As Suoh approached the opposite end of the field several faces popped out of the grass. Three men that had been crouching now stood up to reveal themselves to him. Suoh noticed with just a glance two of them had katanas and the third man had a metal hammer and was obvisouly much sstronger, and hopefully slower, than his companions. Suoh stopped and gave them a few seconds of silence in which they had a chance to explain themselves before he would have to exchange words with them

"May I ask what you are doing in my way," Suoh called out to them. He could see the wind kick up a little as he bangs blew about his head. The fog lingered low in the trees behind them, ready to wash over the field when he called it.

"We want your money" called one of the katana wielders, "Then you may go on living."

"I have nothing I am willing to give to men like you," Suoh responded pulling out his rapier.

The two smaller men almost disappeared in the grass as they unsheathed and crouched in a run at him. Suoh put his off-hand behind his back and with his rapier gave a small twirl to the left and spun to give another of the right.

He smelled the copper of the robbers' blood. The one dressed in gray had received a quick gash into the arm severing the tendon that gave his brain control over his forearm and hand. The swordsman dressed in blue had taken a hit to the hand and his sword fell to the ground as he observed how two of his fingers were missing just above the knuckle.

Suoh resheathed and walked past the larger man who ran over to help his companions. Normally Suoh didn't like to do what he just did. He much preferred his prey to admit defeat and skulk away before he had to sever digits and disable arms. He knew people wouldn't be happy with what he had just done but it was a neccesary part of life, whether he liked it or not.

((That is all I have for now. I hope it is enough for you to pass judgement. Normally I am not so straight forward in getting a batlle done but I am tired))

Simmz wanders on to the barton field, where the only thing heard is the blowing of the wind. it is dark and the only thing which lights up the field is the moon. He stands alone staring up at it and questions what his future has in store for him. though coming to this place alone in his training gear, ( a long black pants, a black shirt, feet wraps and a scarf over is mouth) he decides not to train any more. he just stands there staring at the moon.
After a while Simmz's deadlock between his eys and the moon are broken by an immense pain in his chest. He rips off his shirt to reveal the wolf branded on his chest bleeding. He falls to his knees. A wrustle comes from a nearby bush. It may be a threat. He takes no chances. In his state he can't even defend himself so with what energy he has left he retreats into the trees and makes his way to one of his havens.

((OOC: Got nothing much to do, so let's bring Meric out to play in the Barton Field. mrgreen ))

Meric watched the man retreat into the darkness. Most people entering Barton came over the road through the field, and all interesting people were coming to Barton. The increased tension between the Clans and various other factions in Gaia seemed to draw in all kinds of warriors, like moths to a flame. Meric didn't believe that the Clans were that flame, however. He did not know what it really was that attracted these men and women, nor what would happen when the moths came too close to the flame... at least, not yet. The only thing he did know was that with moths like these, the flame would undoubtedly be worth seeing. When the machinations of fate gathered this much power in one spot, there was bound to be fireworks.

Stepping out of the bushes where he had hid in order to observe the man unnoticed, Meric grinned slightly. A ninja. It seemed the cruelty and brutality of Clan Death still hadn't scared away any potential members. It didn't matter. As long as he remained a shadow among shadows and an anonymous face in the crowd, not even DeMarkus' random acts of violence would be a serious threat.

Meric looked around. It was dark, but his night vision was as good as ever, and the moon provided enough light to see clearly. It didn't seem like there was anyone else outside at the moment. It was late, and the nights had been getting colder lately, so the people that often used the field for picnicking, playing, or exercising were long gone. There wasn't anything he had to do tonight, so Meric took the opportunity to enjoy the silent beauty of this night. Tomorrow, he would be busy again.

After tending to the wound on his chest and resting, Simmz awakes and leaves his haven making his way to a hidden training place he made on the outskirts of barton field. Seeing he is somewhat new to he place he rushed it so it wasnt done too well and you can tell by the looks of it. There is a set of rotating dummies carved of wood and a dozen targets placed on various points of the surronding trees. There are ten shurikens and a grappling chain with a spear tip on the ground under the dummies.

Simmz begins to spin the dummies causing them to rotate at a very high speed. He then stands in front of them, closes his eyes, concentrates and then reopens his eyes. He dashes straight toward the dummies diving right between the space of the two close arms spinning in the same direction. In one motion he grabs the wepons and rolls from underneath the dummies. Unfortunately he does not roll far enough and is hit on his way up and sent flying toward a tree. Before hitting the tree he recovers and places his feet on it pushing himself higher into the air where he throws five of the shurikens at nearby targets. Still falling he realises that one of the shurikens missed its target, so with quick response he twists his body flinging the tip of the grapple at the shuriken hitting it back on target. He then hits the ground. He's a bit hurt but springs back into action. He tosses the shurikens into the air over the heads of the rotating dummies, charges toward them and springs off their heads into the air spinning the grapple over his head hitting the shurikens to five of the seven remainding targets. Two targets remain side by side. He stops for a minute then executes a moonsault over the dummies sticking the tip of the grapple into one of the heads pulls it off and sends it flying toward one of the targets with the grapple still in it. After it hits that targets he quickly tugs the chain of the grapple and causes the head to hit the remainding target, but the last dummy still rotates and the chain snags in its arm tuggin him through the air toward it. At close distance he is hit but still manages to wrap the chord around its neck and rips it off.

Injured and exhausted once more he sits and rests.

Meric rubbed his hands together. It was really getting cold now. He took one last look at the beautiful night sky and started heading for home. Or at least, the small room he had been using as 'home' since he arrived in this place. As he walked home, he suddenly heard a soft sound above him. He would have ignored it, were it not for the fact that it didn't quite sound like a bird or a small animal. Cautiously, he looked up at the tree he had just passed.

Immediately, he realised he should have been more careful leaving the field. He had been certain that the field was empty. Now, the tables had turned. The watcher had become the watched. He didn't know whether it was sloppyness or bad luck, but he had been slipping up a little on more than one occasion recently. He'd have to be more careful. The clanners might have had no idea who he was or what he was up to, or that he even existed at all, but Meric knew that things would become a lot more complicated once they learned about him.

Still, he didn't want to act innocent this time. There was no need to. It would be so much simpler to just dispose of this guy right here and now. Meric hadn't noticed anyone else in the area, and this ninja was a new arrival in Barton. Noone here would miss him, and if he even had any family they would never know who his killer was. Besides, it had been a long time since Meric had seen some actual combat. He needed all his skills to be at their top level at any time, so a little bit of exercise wouldn't be such a bad idea.

"There's no need for words between warriors." Meric called, coldly looking up at the ninja "So tell me. Are you all show, or are you going to come down and fight?" The challenge issued was a simple one. The fight didn't need a specific reason, even while Meric did have his reasons. He knew the old truth. A bird will fly, a fish will swim, and a warrior will fight. Perhaps that was his biggest advantage. He was no warrior.

All he needed to do now, was wait for the inevitable attack.

Simmz heard the voice call out to him but even though he didn't know who it was he still gave his formal reply, "hmph". he fixed his eyes onto his challenger then sprung up and vanished, only to reappear in front of the challenger staring into his eyes. with his katana with a chain attached to it sheathed, he awaited the next move, not looking away from his opponents eyes.

((OOC: simmz, you might want to spellcheck your post before posting them. There's quite a few typos in that post.)

The reaction came a fraction of a second later than it should have come. Meric had expected the ninja to come down, but not as suddenly as he did. He jumped back and muttered a soft curse. If his opponent had attacked in the same motion, he would probably be dead already. This alone was proof enough for Meric that he had lost his edge. The time he had spend running and hiding, and then the time he had spent sneaking and spying, had not been kind on his more offensive reflexes.

Meric answered the enemy's gaze with his own. If he was going to win this, he would have to play it smart. "Fight with your mind, not your muscles" was one of the first things he had learned. A good fight, so it was said, was like a fast and deadly game of chess. Now it was once again time to put that theory into practice. In a flash, his hands moved to his belt. In one fluid motion, each hand pulled a small throwing dagger from the belt and launched blindly it at the ninja. Then Meric jumped back once again, increasing the distance between him and his opponent, and pulled out a set of longer, more sturdy daggers.

"Opening move." He muttered, once again awaiting his opponent's reaction.

Not being bothered by the opponents tactic, Simmz stays in the same stance only moving his sheath to hit the daggers back at the opponent while still staring into his eyes. He murmured "Try again".

"Passive play, eh?" Meric grinned "Too bad, I wanted to see what you're capable of before getting serious." Apparently, this guy was trying to do the same thing Meric was trying to do: Making the other attack first. If the ninja didn't attack first, it would be more difficult for Meric to determine what he could do before finishing him off. However, there was plenty that could be learned without an actual fight.

Whether keeping his weapon sheathed all this time was just bluff or an actual tactic -Meric knew what Iaijutsu was- Meric couldn't tell, but it was all too obvious that the ninja was confident in his own abilities. It would be all too easy to determine if that confidence was misplaced or not. "I don't care, really. If you want me to move first, I won't keep you waiting." Of course, announcing an attack would normally be considered foolish, but this was training as well as an actual fight for Meric. It would be a shame if it ended too soon. "Here I come!"

Meric dashed forward. He knew that the distance he had put between himself and the ninja for defensive purposes would make a head-on attack too predictable, and thus too dangerous. Keeping a close eye on his stoic opponent, he in stead positioned himself between the man and the tree he had come down from. From there, he jumped at the ninja, and in the blink of an eye moved his right dagger up at his opponent's chest.

((OOC: The last 'attack' paragraph is bit of an awkward move no matter how you look at it, if you imagine it all together. I just wanted to make an actual attack in this post without just charging at you, while still describing the movement with a tiny bit of detail. Just imagine it happens really fast or something. It's an RP, unrealisting attacks can happen now and then. xp ))
