It was that mid-afternoon that Temperance had decided to wander down to the riverbank. She had noticed an increase of two-leggers headed that way lately and although she usually kept to the smaller streams in the forest for water, she had followed them curiously. She had settled up the bank by a small waterfall to avoid disturbing the humans. The bank was surrounded by trees where two-leggers moved about. They were fishing in large groups, which Teppy found odd when fish were so skittish to loud noise. She thought they were scaring the fish away when the ones caught were few and far in between.
Suddenly, a man gave a shout. Teppy's ears swiveled forward as the group suddenly went silent, carefully preparing their fishing gear. Teppy strained to see when the water suddenly heaved upstream. Salmon! The two-leggers laughed and chattered in celebration, picking off fish easily.
The Christmas mare shook her head. So that's why the two-leggers were suddenly so interested in rivers... There were still so many things that she didn't understand about the world.

Istas loved being around the rivers. This is where and how she grew up; Forte and her two legger lived right next to one. It wasn't huge, but it was about the same size as the river she was heading too. Solange and Roma seemed to have reserved about her wanting to swim and play in the rivers... But Misti had got her swimming not to long ago and she enjoyed the feeling. But it was at this point that she noticed the water seemed awful rough... There was no reason for it to be like this... "I must have made a wrong turn again." She shook her head and followed the water down stream and shortly found the cause of the white water. There was a waterfall.
She noticed quickly all the two leggers. She wondered what exactly they were doing with the fish and she would have to ask Forte about it when she got home. Luna had brought fish home too but she never saw what was done with it.
Out of the corner of her eye she saw another mare. She peered down at her from her hire position. She belonged of she belonged to one of the humans that were down there. Not that it really mattered but it could answer her question sooner rather then later. She nickered lightly at the festive colored girl, hoping she would be nice enough to help her figure out how to get down there.
"Mind helping me figure out how to get from here to there?"

Teppy was still watching the water churn when a soft voice drew her attention. Confused for a moment she looked around before her cyan eyes caught movement up above her. She looked up at the stranger with a flick of her long tail. How long had she been up there? Smiling, Teppy turned to address her.
"Well, how did you get up there?"
But Teppy wasn't the type to just leave someone hanging when they needed a bit of help. She looked around for some kind of path that Istas could use to get down. She wasn't too familiar with the bank so her searching took her into the forest.
Oops, I must look like I'm leaving her there by herself, Teppy realized when she turned back to see that Istas was well-hidden by trees. Well, that would never do. "I'm over here!" she called out, "Can you come this way?"

Istas nickered down at her again and laughed some. "Well I was day dreaming, and i must have followed the wrong path and ended up here. I was hoping to be down in the slower part of the river." She responded and watched her leave. Istas's head tilted with curiosity and then she heard the voice through the trees. "Ah yes!" She turned to walk parallel to the other mare. "I was looking for find a shorter pathway down without having to back track all that much." She weaved herself through the trees catching some glimpse of the other mare.
"Oh! I found it." She took note of a rather over grown path, and she headed forward it. With her hooves pushing into the grass and bushes, she stepped out infront of the other mare. "Thanks so much for your help." Her auburn eyes looked over at Teppy. "I don't think I ever would have gone to look in that area it was so over grown."

When Istas stepped out in front of her Teppy grinned. "Ah, there you are! Oh, no problem. I know how it is, getting caught in day dreams." She looked over from where Istas had come, through the thick brush that hid the path down. She took note of it, in case she wanted to go up there herself and take a look around later... the plants really did conceal it. "Sometimes two pairs of eyes are better than one."
The terrain where they stood was sloping towards the river. In some places it was quite steep, but in others it was almost flat. "That's a good idea," Teppy said thoughtfully, "Why don't we both go down to the slower part of the river? I'd like to take a closer look at the two-leggers."

She felt relieved that the other female agreed with it. Sometimes she felt so incompetent since Solange and Roma did almost everything for her, she never really learned to look around her and see things for herself. Forte and Liberty, though they babied her, they made her do things for herself; she wasn't sure which she liked more. But then again Forte and Liberty were both Usdia...
Coming back into reality she looked over at it. "Oh that sounds like a good thing. I sort of live with a two legger but she seems kind of different then most of the others, and not only that but she's not around alot." She smiled some as moved her way toward a path that should lead them closer. The low branches scraped lightly against her pelt on her flank, and she glanced back. "Be careful nto to get cut right here." She spoke to Teppy. "So what exactly have the two leggers been doing, that you've seen so far?"
It would have been a good idea to make sure that it was nothing that could case them danger. It seemed fairly harmless from what she had seen, but you never know. Some of the humans would come back with other animals, though she'd never seen a horse. But accidents do happen.

"I visit a two-legger sometimes too. I think she's old for a two-legger, because she has trouble moving around." Teppy said, thinking back to the white-haired woman who lived at the edge of the forest. She was always weaving baskets, but she was never happy with them even though they were some of the nicest ones Teppy had ever seen. She would finish just to ruin them, and start over. As she spoke Teppy carefully maneuvered down the path, avoiding any high branches that might catch her flowing mane.
She smiled gratefully when Istas warned her of the lower branches. She had been too busy paying attention to her mane to notice them. "So far, I've seen them catching fish by the bank," she continued, thinking back to the sudden swell of salmon. "It's strange... all these fish suddenly came out of nowhere, and they got really excited. I was watching them celebrate when you called to me."

Istas looked over at him and nodded some trying to think of her. She hadn't seen an older two legger before, so she had trouble picturing it. "Hm..." She shrugged it out of her mind and listened to her. "Really? " She tilted her head some. "Hm... Forte talked about that a few times.. it has something to do with the time of the year and mating for them I think." She couldn't quite remember what it was. "But I wonder why they catch them..." She slide down one of the steeper paths that lead to the level ground where the humans were.
All the humans in the area looked over at them, frozen as if to see if they were bad horses that would cause harm... But when neither of them did anything things went back to normal. One of the humans came over and offered them apples.

Teppy made her way down the path as well, her ruby hooves barely making a sound on the path except for the occasional slip of earth. "The time of year makes them do that? I see..." She said somewhat absentmindedly, thinking of it. "This is my first real fall," she admitted with a quick laugh. "I was born in the wintertime, and I really don't remember a time where the leaves fell from the trees. I do remember when they first grew leaves, though."
As the humans turned to look at them Teppy paused. She could understand their hesitation when creatures like skinwalkers lurked the forest. The two-leggers quickly realized that they meant them no harm and went back to work. When she was offered an apple Teppy reached for one, but turned to snuff the human's hair playfully in mid-motion before talking it. Apples were by far her favourite treat, and she grinned happily as she munched on it.
"Do you have family around here?" Teppy asked curiously, noting that Istas had mentioned someone named 'Forte'.

Istas munches happily on her happily and enjoyed the attention of the few humans that came back to see them. She mulled over the family question; not to sure how she wanted to answer it. "Well yes... and no. " she laughed a bit. "I'm from back that way." She nodded some in the direction she had some. "My family resides over there. I just happen to be out today. And then my other family lives near the plains." She looked over at her, wondering if she'd question her two parents families.
"What about you? I would think you might be from around here. Since I've never seen you over that way." She smiled some.. So she was atleast older then she was. That made her a feel a little bit happy.

Whenever a human came by Teppy would nicker, bringing out a smile or a nod. She felt someone brush against her tail and she flicked it out of the way. Teppy looked in the direction of Istas' nod and thought about the area before turning in the direction of the plains.
"Other family?" she asked curiously. She finished up her apple and eyed one that lay on the ground by her hoof. The human must've dropped it. "I'm from a pretty small family... it's just me, my parents, my sister, and my brother." Teppy had seen larger families before, but she couldn't imagine what they were like. She rolled the apple towards Istas and grinned. "Want this?"
Then she stood back a bit, her posture perfectly relaxed as she gazed at the river. The salmon made the water look rougher than usual. "I'm kind of a wanderer," she admitted, "but I haven't been that way. The forest is my home, but I tend to stay where the forest meets the clearing, by one of the two-legger places. I haven't seen my family in some time..." she sighed, thinking of her foalhood. "I hope they are alright."

Istas nodded as she listened. She leaned down and took the apple lightly in her mouth. "How about we split it?" lifts her head up and offers it toward her. After Teppy choose; Istas would munch on the apple, or half of. "Really? Thats about the same size as mine. They must be a newer family." she though of all the larger ones she knew, and how they had been around for a long time.
"you haven't seen that in a while?" Istas couldn't imagine not seeing Forte or Liberty on an almost daily basis. "You should go and see them... I never get to see my brother and sister. I wish I knew what they were like." She felt a little said at that idea, but Forte and Liberty where expecting two foals. They would be the closet thing to siblings she would have.
She followed her gaze to the water. It truely was an interesting thing. But animals did what they needed for survival and such. She looked over at Teppy, and admired her coloring again before she moved toward the river. "Maybe the fish will want to play?"

"Sure!" Teppy smiled, then took half of the apple. They were almost as good as the apples from her favourite apple tree. There weren't many apples left on her tree now, so she had been taking the fruit sparingly. She wondered how the humans kept them to eat later.
"I don't even know where they are anymore..." she sighed, looking at her front hooves. "I don't know what my brother is like, really. Or my sister anymore." She looked at Istas sadly. "Someday I hope to find them."
With that Teppy closed her eyes and raised her head. This wasn't the time to feel sad. As far as she knew they were living happy fulfilling lives somewhere. She could worry about them later. Her cyan eyes met auburn as she grinned. "Well, let's get closer and find out!"

Looking over at Teppy, the ideas ran in her head about her family. It took her interest but they had just met and so she didn't feel that it would be appropriate. But she wanted to help Teppy find her family one day, if they stayed friends.
"Ha~!" Istas snapped back into reality and she pushed forward. After getting around the humans Istas leaned forward toward the water, and the n she steped forward the fish moved around her. Her tail flicked some and she looked over at Teppy. "Hey fishies!" she announced. "Want to play with us?" She asked. But there didn't seem to be much of an answer. she wondered why they weren't answering. They were playing... "It seems they want to leave us out.."

Happily Teppy trotted after Istas and peered into the river from the bank. It looked okay, so she stepped in too. "Brr, cold," she commented as it swirled around her hooves, the fish darting about in a frenzy. She giggled when Istas started to talk to them. "Do they understand us?" she wondered, lowering her face to the water. "Hello down there!" The fish just continued on their way upriver.
"It looks like they're in a hurry," Teppy said, looking up in the direction of the falls. "How do they get over that, anyways?" Curious she waded in the direction of the falls, careful not to get in the human's way or to slip.
