Men are idiots, but otherwise how's life? || AIM Log - Yin-li & Ilahle

Ilahle lay away from Saburi's den on the cool sand that was in the shade of the rocks. He mind was carefully blank. From there however she had a view of the general pride area - though there were those she was specifically trying not to watch. It was from there she spotted a familiar black and white form - Yin-li, whose coat was so like her mothers but so much more striking with its high contrasting colours. Ilahle had known she had returned to the Firekin sands....but had not yet gone to speak with her really.

Perhaps, she mused, she should. The girl was not her kin, but the kin of one she had considered closer than close. Had Huang returned instead of his sister, she'd have been there in an instant offering her love and help once more. Yin-li however was not such a dear friend, but in the spirit of her friendship with Huang she felt she should offer such to her. Especially now when family and friend seemed so very important. Now she was no longer focussed so intently on her relationship with just one certain lion alone. Perhaps she should...if nothing else they should be proper associates if nothing else.Yes...she should go over there... - and shortly she found herself doing just that.

"Yin-Li?"

Yin-li was glad to see a familiar face that while not close, was actually familiar. She was not yet getting to know many others, but planned to change that. Ilahle calling out to her took her by pleasant surprise. She paused in her step to give the female a chance to catch up, and straightened. The last time she'd seen her she was looking up, and as a slave, however well treated and as much a farce as it may have been she was later told. Honestly she still did look up some, but she had yet to grow fully into her adulthood even. Hopefully she'd grow a little more into her father's size.

"Ilahle... It's nice to see you again." The greeting was genuine, she smiled, glad to see that the lioness had come out of the rebellion unharmed. They had not been sure before. Maybe she'd find a way to get word back to her brother in the Achana. He'd no doubt like to know this.

"My, how you've grown...it seems like so long ago now, when you left here with your family."

She said, offering a smile and pleasant talk, perhaps more pleasant than most would expect. Amongst those she trusted - and Huang's sister she did by default - she spoke nicer these days. Perhaps Saburi's 'softness' had influenced her. Perhaps a good thing considering the black-masked female was heavy with cubs and nearly due. Perhaps it was because she was rather heartsore these days and while not broken her spirit was a bit battered. Though amongst those she didn't trust she was still very polite, 'hard' and proud as and other...so who knew?

"How do they fare? Did they make it to the other desert? It's good to see you back, if a surprise."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 06, 2008 6:55 am

"I'm doing very well. I'm glad to have the chance to come back here, I didn't think I'd miss this place but the familiarity is more comforting than I would have thought. "Everyone is doing very well. We made a stop in the jungle first to regroup. Everyone was accounted for."

She meant her father, mostly, who had been fighting in the battle as well.

"Though I think Huang left his heart there..." She smiled a bit, thinking back to the Hybrid that he'd befriended, but was her intuition correct? "How are you fairing?"

"I'm glad to hear everyone made it away safely" Ilahle sad truthfully, for she'd been just a touch fond of them all.

The family had been a turning point for her. Before meeting them she could have been a Traditionalist when all the chips came down, despite her upbringing. She'd have been with Shetani'tuka, her brother, on the other side. It'd have saved her a certain pain anyway....then mentally she kicked herself for such a thought, remembering the sundering of Vuvi and Saburi, who could have had something once. All this love talk made her flex her claws in and out in the sand. Hmph.

"Huang's given his heart away to a jungle cat? I am glad if it is so and it goes well for him, since I always wanted his happiness. Though sadly I can't say the same for me. It's not going so well as I had hoped. Your former 'master' and I...no longer speak."

"Yes, so I suspect anyway. I might be wrong, but he stayed to help her. The rest of the family chose to stay with the Dawnwalkers."

Yin-li's expression grew weary, though she carefully made sure not to exude any suggestion of pity. She knew this pride too well by her own speculation and knowledge.

"I'd heard. He... well, if I'm blunt, he was an idiot." She exhaled, shaking her head. "I'm so sorry to hear that, Ilahle, I really am." And she hoped it would work out. She sounded as if she was mourning a death, but surely it was quite serious even if not quite as grave.

"It's fine....fine...well, it's not fine but I'm strong and I'll cope."

She shrugged, he own voice rather tired sounding to her ears suddenly. She knew it was known about of course, had to be by those in charge but she now had to wonder if anyone was laughing at her or blaming her. Ilahle had always been a proud female and she pondered this a moment.

"Anyway - are you busy, Yin-li? If not, we could retire to the shade and talk some more. I'd love to know of your plans here...I'm not even sure of your rank, if you'll excuse my ignorance! As you know I've had a bit of a distraction lately."

"I know that you will, Ilahle, you wouldn't be the Firekin huntress that my brothers and I came to admire if you didn't, and I know that you can..." She lifted her head a bit at the start of this statement, but she looked reassuring as well. She had genuine faith in the female, her brother's teacher. "I understand. I'm not entirely certain myself. I've heard that there are some positions opening up, Uuo just made Captain of the Guard, herself."

She moved to Ilahle's side as a gesture that she'd follow.

Had they not been Firekin and not standing reasonably in the hub of the pride, Ilahle would have hugged the younger female. As it was she just smiled and closed her eyes half a moment before leading the way to somewhere a bit more private and shaded from the hot sun. That family...she missed them, especially Huang of course, more than she could say sometimes and it was nice to know she'd been looked up to by them. Maybe she should look into seeking a hunting job beyond mere huntress one day when Saburi's cubs had grown and didn't need a teacher anymore, as Huang and Yin-li had grown out of her and...him.

"Uuo, Uuo...a good choice, I know her in passing, not overly well, but it seems a good choice. So then! What was it that brought you home here? Just familiarity or...?" She said as she settled comfortably once more.

"Mmm... well.... I do have to confess..." Yin-li looked to the other female as she followed her away, happening to spot Azula's den as they sought shade, and resisted the urge to shudder. She wasn't little anymore, she was almost a member, she really shouldn't feel intimidated around that wily female but until they had spoken as equals that feeling would probably remain. Yin's attention riveted back on point without any hesitation, thoughts traveling instead to the reason she had come back to start with. "... Azarax is, actually." She admitted with only a small hint of bashfulness, a small smile on her maw. She tried not to sound like she was mooning over him, given Ilahle's recent mess with love, but she couldn't completely keep the affection from her response either. Once in the shade she moved to a conversation friendly distance and settled in the shadows as well.

"Stranger things have happened in the name of love." Ilahle said, knowing that what was once a slave (though a false slave waiting to be freed) returning willing to a pride that had held her family captive wasn't the most common thing to happen. But then if the orange maned male had held her /heart/ captive, well, she supposed she had had reason to come back to claim it! Secretly Ilahle was a bit of a romantic so she chuckled softly and looked at the younger female. "Well I wish you happiness. I doubt Ripuka would be happy but what that old battle claw doesn't know..."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 27, 2008 8:19 am

Ripuka, the old storyteller, why...?

It clicked almost audibly in Yin's head. It was something that Azarax hadn't told her, yet, but then again she'd never really asked. Family seemed a taboo subject for discussion among former slaves, and she didn't want to pry not knowing if his was dead or gone to join the traditionalists. She should have, though, but she trusted that in time Azarax would confirm her own suspicions. For now she only gave Ilahle a small, sad smile. She'd traveled back with the sole purpose of getting her parents blessing to return to the Firekin to be with Azarax, and where she felt she belonged, how would it feel if she'd been unable or known they'd disapprove?

"I suppose you're right. Thank you, Ilahle, I wish the same for you, and I'm sure you'll find it again."

~Even if my old master is a block head, at least he has a good heart. I know he'll do what he must to make things as right as he can.~

"Perhaps." The small, sad smile was quickly mirrored. Who knew? Perhaps one day she'd be with Kadogo'moto again or maybe she'd love another, if she could learn to trust again. She was proud and hurt right now so she didn't consider it long. Better to hope for Yin'li and focus on helping Saburi. Least Kadogo hadn't left her cubheavy...though she instantly regretted thought because for a while she'd hoped just a little, what with a safe home and the fighting over...

She sighed and shifted, turning her dark eyes away as if she was gazing around the pride. But she didn't really notice any of the lions milling about and was just regaining her composure.

The conversation seemed to have taken an unwanted turn, so Yin-li was determined to rectify that. Looking to Ilahle again she rose to her paws.

"Well, Ilah, I don't see any reason for two good looking females such as ourselves to mull on the boys. Are you up for a hunt, and maybe giving a rookie a few pointers? I had to cut my lessons with father short and I'm still learning how to make the final blow effectively."

"I'd be happy to give you a lesson - luckily I became quite a good teacher for a while." Ilahle stretched and got ready to go, intending they walk alongside each other to the best hunting grounds. A small kill, for those who wanted meat and to assess Yin-li's skills...and because it'd cheer her up. Ilahle had always loved hunting and was a good huntress, so a good hunt with a friend would do wonders for her mood.

"Let's go."
