It's only fitting that since Haldora and Mars were both from the Halloween RP contests, that they be RPed together. And see if we can't twist their origin stories together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mars couldn't even look back at the forest. The smell of her blood still in his nostrils. The sky overhead was dark, grey, and angry. A streak of lightning caused him to think for a moment how fitting it was. The sky being in such turmoil, as was he. Mars began to scale the rocky cliffs, swiss cheesed with caves and tunnels ranging from small enough that only snakes and smaller critters could wriggle in, to where 5 men could walk in shoulder to shoulder.
Mars stopped at the first cave that was large enough for him to fit, and sniffed. No, there was something there, so he walked on. The first few drops of water began to hit his fur. His back remained dry as the water rolled off the wolf pelt he wore. The blood remained stained on Mars's own fur and he sighed. Laying down and waiting for death began to seem like a good idea.
"No, I will live on." He determined. "And I will atone for the things I did." He shook violently, sending water showering back up towards the sky before they joined the downpour once more. He jumped up a small rocky outcrop and froze. Was that...? Was there someone standing there against the dark sky?
Waiting wasn't fun. It was eating at her, digging its teeth into her, demanding that she get up from her spot upon the cliff's edge and go inside and wait where it was dry. But the sky... She had to keep looking up there.
Haldora still, even after that slaughter of the men and that cat, felt the urge to kill well in her. Maybe it was just grief. She didn't know, nor did she care. Her eyes were to the clouded skies, searching in those clouds for something. Something.
The water rolled off the skin, she didn't bother shaking it off her own soaked fur. It wouldn't matter. She wouldn't fly in this weather anyways. Her feathers were soaked. They were useless, and as she sat there, Haldora wondered exactly what she had done wrong to throw her life into this turmoil. A smile played across her face, a snort soon followed. A small foggy cloud of breath slowly climbed to the sky, dissappearing not a foot above the cat skinned one.
It was then that she was pulled from her thoughts by the sound of something shaking. She was on her feet, facing the source of the sound, ready to fight again. Again, she thought, so soon? The female was on edge and bared her teeth, lowering her head as she spread her wings out to make herself seem a bit more fierce than moments before as a dark shape leaped onto her outcropping.
Eyes narrowed at the wolf pelted male as she took his appearance in. A pelt? White one too. Oh, the purity, the beauty of the fur made her want to rip into it and destroy it. And yet... Wearily she let her fighting stance down, the wings folding against her back, as the water continued to pelt the pelt she wore. " ... What? " The hiss in her voice was slight and obvious it was from yelling to the stars for days...or at least yelling. " You best be lost. I have no patience for annoying suitors. "
Mars looked at her then shook his head. "I didn't know anyone was here." He had kept his eyes averted but finally looked up through the rain as a bolt of light streaked the sky again. Black wings, and then the light faded. "I'm hardly a suitor. I'd be more likely to hurt you if I tried to care for you." It sounded pathetic. He sounded pathetic. So much so that he let out a faint laugh at himself. "I'm sorry for having intruded. I'll find a different cave for shelter, if there's one to be found. You best get in where it's dry."
He was about to walk past her when he could smell the faint rotting oder, tainting the air. Something died here. He eyed her curiously, wondering if she had killed something and why? For food? Was she in trouble? Another flash of light and he could see she wore a pelt, like he. No, surely she hadn't done something so terrible like he had. It had to be for warmth, or at least protection from the rain, right?
Mars bit his tongue a moment, trying to fight the urge to ask her why she had that grotesque cloak. Her coloring blended with the angry dark clouds, making it almost eerie seeing the skin floating there.
"Why...?" He stopped himself, and backed up a step.
She kept her gaze upon the shadowy figure. Did she trust him? Could she trust him? No. No, not when she couldn't even trust herself to act accordingly and properly around those she had supposedly loved.
The plea, as she heard it, caught her off guard. Haldora raised her head, tilting it in confusion. He sounded laughable, pathetic, something willing to just curl up and wither away. And...he was apologizing? " Oh..." she replied softly, her head drifting to the view below the outcropping, and the corpses that lay there still. They looked... Haldora could feel her mouth starting to water, and yet her stomach wanted to heave. It was a complex emotional thing going on. But eventually she looked back at the male... observing and secretly hoping he wouldn't ask about her own shame, or the smell... " No. Its..fine. Its deep enough to share. "
And then, she felt eyes on her. The fur on the back of Haldora's neck stood up. Panic took her when she realized he saw what she wore. Would he ask? Oh...how she hoped not! It was akward enough interacting with another being that spoke the same language, let alone talk about something that wasn't happy. Well, it was happy, in a sick demented way, but it was terribly sad at the same time.
Those wings pulled closer to her, as she finally felt the cold of the rain's triumph at soaking through her new pelt. How bothersome. If only there was a fire to dry it off at...or at least a warm rock to sun on, it would dry faster. The weather, though, suited her mood. And she wouldn't change it for the world.
Haldora frowned quickly only to curl in on herself. " Why? ...Oh. " She could feel a wave of anger, agony, and pain sear through her, hiding that bitterness. She turned her head away and started walking towards that cave, that dry warm cave, to escape the rain. " ...It's dryer in here..." She stopped at the mouth that hadn't been so far off, waiting for the other, her tail flicking back and forth as her green eyes glowed in the shadows.
"Why don't we go in then." He said softly, following her cautiously. He could feel that something wasn't sitting well with her. It wasn't his place to try and comfort her. When she was inside, Mars shook again before stepping inside. He kept his distance from the dark female, sensing her distrust and anger. Should he say anything? Mars sat down, curling his tail around his legs and watched her a moment. She looked nervous.
"Fall storms are starting early... we'll have snow before next moon's end." The weather? Could he sound any more pathetic? "I... that is..." Social graces? Zero. Mars was usually alone and didn't know how to talk to others of his own kind, let alone an angeli. Female at that. He hung his head, the wolf face showing, looking at Haldora- nearly glaring at her as if the evils the beast had possessed still lingered in it's hide.
Water dripped on the floor of the cave, her footsteps echoed in the chamber with the splaters. Haldora just let herself drip with the water, not feeling in the mood to shake off. It would dry. Eventually. Hopefully soon. The akwardness of the prolonged silence was starting to bother her. Here she was, with another being, a male demon creature of all things, and she couldn't come up with a good conversational piece. Siiigh!
It was then, and only then when she was out of the rain could she smell the blood drifting from the other's fur. It caused a couple of questions to pop up. They weren't really polite to ask. Company was welcomed but...
" The...weather, oh." Haldora said quietly. " It would block the passes for sure. Many beasts will die come this winter. Unfortunate. " Internally, she winced. Way to kill the conversation! Insta-death. No chance of revival.
She stared at this male as he hung his head. That fur, the head of that animal's pelt staring at her, accusingly. Haldora almost yelped and snarled at the wet beast to get out. Her wings unfurled and repositioned themselves against her body. His gaze was unnerving. A twitch of her lips showed off her pearly teeth for but a second, " You what? Came to mock me like the others? " She hadn't meant to snarl, nor to snap at the poor, pathetic looking male, but just his gaze was getting under her skin. Defensive much?
He looked up, his own too kind expression replacing the evil of the wolf's. "At least there will be food for the scavengers this winter." A positive spin. Something good to come from death? "And what's left will aid the growth of the plants." His thoughts went back to the girl he had killed. Would flowers grow over where she lay? Would the tree take her into it's roots and be nourished by his sins? His mind wandered, and he didn't even notice the female's change until she snarled at him. It was surprising. The little growl, had he done something that offended her?
He had to break the tension- break the ice! "Mars." He blurted out, offering no explanation to why he said it.
" Food...warmth...plenty for winter. " She agreed, nodding her head. Habits of looking after the earth were still there. The earth. The only thing that had been constant. The only thing she could touch. Haldora snickered softly, bitterly even. Death. Those corpses would be rotten and nothing but bones for the winter months soon.
Her weariness was replaced with utter shock and surprised when he shouted something at her. Haldora stared, wide eyed and then found herself utterly speechless for a moment. Her mouth hung open before she remembered to close it. " ...What? What about Mars? Its not the planets fault the weather is like this....I think? " Sheesh, for an Astral she really did suck at reading the sky sometimes. Who could blame her? She was new to this whole star gazing and finding some deep significant meaning behind it other than ' I'm hungry'.
A sound escaped her mouth. A different sound that wasn't full of bitterness. Laughter it sounded like. It startled her, but at the same time it felt nice to laugh at the male's odd, humerus, awkwardness. And Haldora laughed.
"My name... It's Mars." He said to the females laughter. "After the red planet..." his mind wandered. The humans also had a deity, Mars. A violent man, and it dawned at him. "am I becoming like him?" The question was faint, and wasn't meant for her to hear, but she would have heard it. The only other sound was the rain, and in the cave was not so defining.
At her laughter though, he smiled a little. Her face was relaxed, and he didn't feel like she would rip his throat out. "Could I be so bold as to ask your name?"
PostPosted: Thu Nov 06, 2008 1:35 am
" Him? The human's silly god? Hum... Don't see much of a similarity, now anyways... " She said, her head tilting to the side as she gave her ear a good flick. The drying fur was getting itchy. But this one. Seemed interesting. When he wasn't being all creepy and scary like. " An interesting name though. " The corners of her lips twitched in a slight smile, and she even obviously relaxed, letting that tail of hers curl around her feet, silent mirth touching the corners of her eyes.
Her name? She thought for a split second of giving a false one, but, an odd streak of honestly won out. It wasn't like she would meet this being again, ever, right? " Haldora..." she said, adding heastantly later, " half spirited..." Half...how rightly she was named. The mirth that had been in her eyes vanished, but it wasn't long before it was back again. Or at least, she shook her fur out to release that bitterness for now. There was a time and a place for everything. " ...the betrayed would be more accurate, " she muttered drawing those wings of hers closer.
He blinked at her. "Haldora..." The name rolled off his tongue and he nodded, unsure if to compliment the name or not. He shook a little as the water ran down his legs. It tickled slightly, and it was cold. He glanced to the cave opening, so near. Did he want to move in closer? Closer to the unpredictable female? It would be warmer, sure. But what would she-
A gust of wind sold him. It was too cold by the cave opening, so he stood and slowly moved towards her, but near the wall opposite her. Slow movements. She seemed a little jumpy, but her smile was, even if only a little, comforting.
"Betrayed?" it was soft, and he knew he'd regret that.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 06, 2008 11:32 pm
She watched him as he approached, subliminally pressing herself against the back of the cave wall. Yeah, so the walls were strong, and a bit warm, but she wished the cave was a bit bigger. Maybe another foot bigger. He was too close, too close. That wolf pelt, it got to her for some reason.
At the sound of her name though, she nodded, wearily. Then, the question she had been dreading came up. Hal stared there blankly at the Akuma, her mouth opening and closing, searching for a good response. Her eyes narrowed and she growled, " Yes. Betrayed. " Her head turned away and she refused to look at this meek and mild mannered male. Frightened soul, tortured soul...and she wanted to just leave and start walking out into the rain again. Leave only to wonder what this male would think of the dead corpses on the lower levels of the canyon plateaus...
Since, it was only fair that he asked a question, she responded with her own. Quietly of course, but it was spoken as a statement. " You smell like blood..."
Mars felt her anger at the question, and it made him want to know, but she was reserved, maybe even scared of what she had done. When Haldora remarked about smelling of blood, he looked her in the eye. "I've been tainted by blood." he replied simply. He wouldn't deny or hide what he did. "Innocent blood that will forever stain me." For the first time since she'd seen him did Mars appear to have a backbone. His tone was even, holding back his remorse and masking it with an absence of emotion. "And I will live with my sins, and wear this damn beast's hide until the day which I am absolved of the things I had done."
This was a change. A surprising change in the male. Haldora found herself looking at him. Really looking at him. What had he done that was so terrible? Innocent blood? The girl's ears fell softly as she thought, wondering and feeling oddly humbled, if not ashamed by this one's resolve.
Her own motivation for wearing this coat was logical, for her, but then here he was, wearing a fur to remind himself, not to hide.
" Oh...." was all she could say. It was all she could get out before...well, curiosity took over. Her head lowered, her ears raised, and the female slowly moved closer. Her nose sniffed the air before:
Liiiiiiick!
She licked the side of his face just to see if it tasted like the blood. " Hum... Nope. Don't taste blood. " The female sat down before him, tilting her head to the side. Yeah..no, he just tasted like rain and wet dog.
( rofl wet dog...)
Mars blinked at her then smiled ever so faintly. "Good. If I tasted like blood... if I could still taste her blood, I think I might go insane." He studied her posture for a moment. "If you're willing to tell me what you did... I will tell you my own tale. It may pass the time till the storm passes." It was an offer, if she felt so inclined. "After all, I'm not one to judge you or your reasons."
(you wouldn't need to rewrite the story if she tells)
